Awesome video. Great information and history. Cool to see the damaged canon. I think I've been to this place but it was long ago, maybe over 30 years ago. So much I don't remember from the trip. It was cool too see it again in your video. I do remember the bunkers/readouts. I'll need to check it out again next time we are back East. Thanks for sharing your trip. Have a great day.
We are glad we could bring back some memories of this place. This battlefield along with nearby Colonial Williamsburg and the Jamestown Settlement are great places to check out for history buffs. Hope you get to make it out in that direction to see it all again soon. Thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to comment!
You should definitely check out the Yorktown Battlefield when you get a chance. It is a short drive away from two other historical sites: Colonial Williamsburg and the Jamestown Settlement. These are all really cool sites to check out if you are into history. We haven't made it to Gettysburg yet. So that is on our list. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment!
Very interesting video and fascinating place to visit. I really appreciate all the stories to help us understand the significance of Yorktown. Brilliantly put together and amazing vlog. I have always enjoyed visiting historic places and thinking about the events that took place there. I hope to be able to visit Yorktown myself one day.
Always amazing how much bigger these battlefields are when you visit them. Great tour, loved the statue and the history. Didn’t know about the surrender rituals.
Yes! Those surrender rituals blew our minds. What a strange way to fight a war. We were fascinated by all we learned on this tour. Thanks for stopping by to check out our video about it. We appreciate your support!
We are glad you enjoyed it. We really had a great time exploring the battlefield and learning more in depth about the history of the battle. Thanks for checking out our channel and for taking the time to leave a comment!
Such a wonderful tour to this historical place in America the Yorktown Battlefield. Great to know the history way back 1781. No wonder this spot is well-known to all, they preserved the place beautifully. Thanks for the informative tour.
Great video for the 4th of July. The Battlefield was amazing. A series of fortunate events is interesting. Love all the displays. So many great replicas and love that cannon. Beautiful area and set ups on the grounds. The cemetery is well cared for, but sad that so many are not identified. WOW, sentenced to death for falling asleep at his post. That was a bit drastic. Thankfully, Lincoln pardoned him. Musicals. 😂. Surrender Field and the drum core were beautiful. Love the story about their uniforms. Ya'll had so much great information for us.
We are glad yall enjoyed our video. We had a great time exploring Yorktown Battlefield. We remember it from history class (and the Hamilton musical) but there was so much more to learn and see in person. It was kind of amazing to be touring the grounds that George Washington and Alexander Hamilton and their troops once walked. We learned a lot and enjoyed sharing it with you. Hope yall had a great 4th of July!
Most people don't understand the historical significance of Independence day and the battles that comprised of it. Lot's of people lost their lives in brutal battles and Yorktown was one of the msot significant sites. Amazing how they preserved the area so we can experience it in 2022.
The battles of the Revolutionary War really were brutal and bloody. It is difficult to imagine fighting with muskets and bayonets and even hand to hand combat - often to the death. We owe those who won our freedom on these fields a debt of gratitude. Thank you so much for watching - and for taking the time to comment!
We were fascinated by all we learned as we walked in the footsteps of Washington and Hamilton on this battlefield. It was a very cool experience. Thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to comment!
You totally should plan a visit. It isn't too far from Virginia Beach, which I know you visit sometimes. There is a lot to see and learn at Yorktown Battlefield. If you have checked out the nearby Jamestown settlement, that is a great site of historical interest as well. Thanks for watching and commenting!
It is a very fascinating place to visit. And it is nearby two other historical sites you should check out if you haven't already: Colonial Williamsburg and the Jamestown Settlement. All three of these sites are a short drive from each other and are an awesome experience for history lovers. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment!
@@trvlnthru I didn't know it was so close to Williamsburg and Jamestown. I have been to Williamsburg, but it was when I was in high school before the Internet was even a thing!!! I would love to go back: so many interesting things to see there.
We hope you had a great 4th of July! It was fascinating touring this place where Washington and Hamilton and Lafeyette and others once walked during this pivotal battle. We were reminded of a lot we had learned and forgotten - and learned a few new things too. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Very informative!! I loved how you did a voiceover with your videos! Thank you so much for sharing this!! Lucy and I really enjoyed this! You've got a new friend here!! 🥰😊Lucy is sending her full support!!
Wow this is so cool to see! Crazy to think there as so many events that could have drastically impacted how things turned out. So cool to see the replica of George Washington's office and tent. So sad that only 747 were identified out of all of those soldiers and civilians. The Yorktown Victory monument is beautiful. So cool you got to see the students play revolutionary period songs! This was such a great video with lots of amazing history! Thanks for sharing with us! :)
We had a great time exploring the Yorktown Battlefield and learning in more depth about the Revolutionary War in general and this battle in particular. It is fascinating to think about how even just one or two little events could have gone a different way and changed the result of the war and history. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment!
Good morning guys! We went to Yorktown last year, but we only had about an hour and the vistor's center was still closed due to Covid. We did get the main battlefied loop, but didn't get to see the band. Due to their outfits and instruments, however, I think it may be the same band that plays at Williamsburg. They are so good. Thanks for the tour, we got to see a lot of stuff we didn't see while we were there!
Glad we could show you the stuff you missed. There really was a lot to see and learn at Yorktown Battlefield. We love checking out historically important places like this. Thanks for joining us - and for commenting!
This was interesting to see and hear about as I don't really know anything about American history. I might have to check out that musical , we love musicals and this would be a good way to find out more. Thanks for this very informative video :) ~ Anna
You should definitely check out the musical Hamilton if you ever have the opportunity. We actually learned many facts about this battle in advance from the one song about it in this musical. But it was very moving to see this place in person where such historical events took place. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment, Anna!
This is one area of the US I have never visited but have always wanted to see. Looks like a great visitor center too. Love the ship replica and shop, of course! I love all the signage and even an app so you know what you are seeing. Loved the tour and all of the information! Sad cemetery when most aren't identified, but with the numbers I guess it would have been impossible back then. I love the authenticity of the band and its instruments. Really interesting, loved this! Thanks for sharing.
Hey Alice and Jack! We like this place, we visited it back in 2016 and we are actually travelin thru this area again later this year and might visit it again, this was a great reminder of whats there! THank you :) THe marching band at the end was nice to see!!
Did not know this was so neat. Ok we are going to have to get this one on our trip schedule. We love to visit the battlefields. We are of the Gettysburg this month and Ft Sumter in September.
We definitely suggest checking it out if you can make it to Virginia. It is also nearby Colonial Williamsburg and the Jamestown Settlement - two other sites loved by history buffs. We highly recommend checking these places out if you can. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment!
really great tour of Yorktown. there is a lot to view here, neat how you can go through the replica ship and see what inside looked like. didnt know about the band and why they wore those colors that is interesting to learn. is Hamilton worth a watch? have not seen it. hope you had a great July 4th 🎆 thanks for sharing ✨
We had a great July 4th. Hope you did too! There really is a lot of fascinating things to see at the Yorktown Battlefield. If you like musicals and/or hip hop and/or US history, you should definitely check out Hamilton on Disney+. We like it and thought it was very well done. We find ourselves singing the songs a lot. I suppose if you don't like musicals, hip hop and history, you may walk away from the experience with a different opinion though. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment!
We haven't been to Lexington and Concord yet - but would love to go check them out one day. We learned a lot on our tour of the Yorktown Battlefield. We are glad you joined us to check it out. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Cool tour guys! Historic and very informative! You will definitely learn a lot about the Yorktown battlefield! 🙂 A lot of deaths at these but I'm glad they're memorialized. Happy 4th of July!
So amazing that all of this has been kept intact! It’s interesting to see all of the carved out land specifically for war purposes! Hamilton really has some thing with the music off! I had no idea about the bands outfits!
Gary is a history person so he would be in heaven there. The replica ship is cool. I can't imagine a 16 mile tour. 😳 This is a perfect way to take the tour. Can you imagine being sentenced to death for falling asleep during your post watch? I love the old house from the 1700s. The battlefield has been nicely maintained.
An appropriate battlefield tour for the 4th of July weekend, Jack and Alice. Loved your visit and learning about the history. A "Series of Fortunate Event's" or unfortunate is in the eye of the beholder. But we enjoyed how they happened. Loved seeing the beginning of the end, or the beginning of what was to come for our nation! Thanks so much for bringing us along.
Thanks for watching our gour of the Yorktown Battlefield. We learned a lot exploring this place and are glad you enjoyed seeing it with us. Thanks for watching and commenting!
The national park service does a tremendous job showing American history. The film at the beginning is a wonderful way to set the tone. So many interesting things happened at Yorktown and Hamilton is one of my favorite historical figures. The story about the young soldier falling asleep and being pardoned by my absolute favorite president is very cool. Thanks for the very fun and well presented video Jack and Alice. Have a good one!! 👍👍😊💖🇺🇲
If we went our kids would be free here, which never happens. You guys do such a great job with museums. I think it is the hardest to do since there are so many things there. I liked the replica of Washington’s tent. Crazy to see that cemetery with unknown soldiers. Rosalie only knows about Alexander Hamilton through all the fun songs. Learned so much from you guys! Happy 4th of July guys.
If you ever go, you will enjoy the replica of Washington's tent. We didn't show close up what was inside because we like to leave a few things for people to check out in person. They have it set up to look like it would have during the war with tables and maps and weapons in there. Very cool. I think a lot of people only know about Alexander Hamilton through the songs from the musical. He went from being a supporting player in the story to being a major figure thanks to that musical. Thanks for watching and commenting!
My last trip was a disappointment. I was at the park @ 10 years ago and there was a great display of cannon and mortars. When I asked this trip I was told that the man who maintained the carriages retired and his replacement was subpar…then Covid occurred, so they were moved into storage. In addition the river front has been allowed to grow in to the point you can’t see the river from the battlefield again very disappointing. Overall the park just felt neglected. It was a special trip for me. Also side note there is a pier nearby where they transfer munitions to navy vessels if you want to see what a can of whoopa$$ looks like
