A great video, thanks for sharing. I have to admit that in a huge city like Tokyo, I will not go out of my way to go to a specific restaurant. My "strategy" is totally different: I will decide what I crave (ramen, soba, tonkatsu, sushi, kaisendon, tempura, korean bbq, seafood, shabu shabu, yakitori etc.) and then I will look for a place that looks good in the area I am in. I so far had only good experiences with that "system".
yeah i'm researching a three-week trip now and it's a bit overwhelming so i think we'll just eat based on where we are too unless there's somewhere we absolutely want to go to, but i don't think i've found a "must-eat-here" place yet.
Fabulous recommendations. Will check them out next week! I have just noticed that Nishitani has increased their prices by about ¥500 across all the set lunches based on a review posted today.
Marushichi is a gem. Despite the size of their tonkatsu, it's not that heavy as long as you're not trying to down a beer with it. It's a beautifully done bowl that leaves you with the right amount of satisfaction. Compared to say Chiyomatsu in Osaka where it's amazingly filling with their gigantic tonkatsu, but makes you feel like you're going to tip over afterwards.
Subscribed because you actually showed hidden jewels of food stops. But in Tokyo the biggest hidden gems that tourists miss out on and when I went there street stalls.
Thank you Ghib for the awesome video. i will be going to Tokyo again for the cherry blossoms this end march and i will be staying near Ueno. So i will be following most of your recommendations especially the ameyoko one!
I am so excited to visit Kantan-na-yume when I visit Tokyo later this month. I worked in Kamiyamacho for 5 years (back in the 80s) and this shop is only a few minutes from my old office. Shibuya has changed so much since my time there!
I just stumbled on Tonkatsu Marushichi when I went during New Year's day and I was just smiling so much when I was eating it, best value and easily trumps the usual recommended shops! Thank you for this list, I'm flying back to Tokyo to try the rest!!! :D
Why didnt i find you before i went!!! So many dope finds! Japan was awesome because of the people make it so. Hope to visit these spots when i go again.
Thank you for these recommendations! I’m going to Japan in March and I’m super excited. Do you have any hidden gem recommendations for Osaka and Kyoto?
I am now at Buka daigaku Jimbasho n could not eat the pork bowl as the shop on 3F is closed… but I tried the fried cutlet n it’s really sumptuous! Thank you for your introduction. I wonder where to try next 😁😋😋😋

@GhibOjisan I want to express a huge THANK YOU for the recommendations you shared in this video.🙌 I managed to try the sushi lunch at Nishitani and the yakitori at Michishirube when I visited Tokyo last month, and I was so impressed at both places! 完全に満足でした~ At Michishirube, I also had an amazing side dish I'd like to share with anyone here who's thinking to go -- the "uni tofu". Silky smooth and creamy, best eaten in one indulgent mouthful🤤
Thank you for all the recommendations! I'm going to Japan next month and have been trying to figure out where to eat in Tokyo (same with Osaka...thankfully you posted a video about it too). I might have to check out every spot in this video. Marushichi, Sanbyakuya, and Michishirube are the restaurants I really want to visit the most though!
Arigato, I will definetely try those restaurant recommed by u, pls do more similar videis about food in Osaka, Kyoto and Hokaiddo, thks a million. abmm😊
👋👋👋Hello Ghib San😊 Greetings from Singaporean first time travelling to Japan🎉 Can you advice which part of Japan is best to go this November 2024 for 8 nights? Also less crowded, less rain and nice autumn scenery🙏
Hi Ghib, I am flying to Tokyo for travel soon! Thanks a lot for this timely video :) May I ask for the Nishitani Sushi set, when is this available? Is it only during weekday lunch?
I used to live in Kanda (Ochanomizu) and Kanda Matsuya often had a queue outside. What you call Oku-Sibuya, I would call Tomigaya or Kamiyama-cho, and I used to live there as well. Intestines are fine, but most Westerners do not like the texture of 軟骨! I also used to work in Nihonbashi, 15 minutes walk to Ginza, and live in Kachidoki, maybe 30 minutes walk? But I have never been to Nishitani restaurant. Kichijoji is also quite a good place to buy furniture, if you want to kit out an apartment in Tokyo.
Do I have to make an appointment for all those restaurants that you recommend? I am going to Tokyo in April. Please help. I have never been to Japan before. Thanks.
I’m going for the first time in June and intimidated by not knowing the language so I will eat at places that dont require much intervention with locals.
Hey, like your vid. Was wondering if you do private tours as I will be disembarking a cruise in Tokyo on 9/10/24. I would like to gather a group of 6-8 ppl and do a 5 days tour. Please let me know. Thanks.
Ojisan, I really like to go to Michishirube, shinjuku for Yakitori the you had. I like to make a reservation for end of April. Do I call them on the phone and make it? Any suggestions?
