Tournament Civ Win Rates - is Byzantine Underpowered? 

Low elo players will never cease to amaze me with their ability to be absolutely convinced that they understand the game better than professionals

My precious Byzantines always at the bottom or always banned or always at the top but i will never stop "one-trick pony" it, buff or nerf i dont give a fuck I WILL STAY LOYAL

Is Byz underpowered? Probably not desperately in need of a buff and decent/good on land maps, but Byz is garbage on water maps, has a losing win rate on ladder over all at Conq I and above and Conq IV and above, and it had a losing win rate at a premier tournament despite getting picked a fair amount and of course only picked on land maps. With respect to the last item, you pointed out that the way the drafts worked given the presence of multiple water maps allowed opponents to more easily counterpick Byz, for example, Mongols against Byz. To me Byz has multiple counterpicks - English, Mongols and maybe HRE and Dehli. Byz even lost to Malians at the tournament (you crushed Demu, who I would have said was the best Byz player). I feel like Byz is probably A tier but how good it is is quite overstated. I eagerly await your Dry Arabia tournament (and I'm fine with being wrong about viewing Byz as at best A tier on land maps). If I were playing that tournament (and assuming I was a top 8 player in the world), I'd let my Byz loving opponent pick Byz (by not banning it) and I'd pick Mongols if they banned English (which is unlikely) or English if they banned Mongols, and I'd say good luck to my Byz opponent.

I play mostly zhu xi legacy and besantynes. In my opinion zhu xi stronger, especially in the beggining. In late game bezantynes are stong, but you need survive until this.

Byzantine feels really strong just like English, French frels really weak and HRE is meh. I only play French/English/HRE.

In aoe2 would be laughable to group 1400 players with your level for any analysis. All your points make complete sense. I would like people talk more about ELO, it is the internal standard, the other scale is just to feel better with oneself.

I used to be a Byzantine main, but I stopped playing the game about 8 months ago or more, because Ottomans would just bombard my ass to oblivion. It was so broken that I said im done with this game.
