This is our visit of the very nearly abandoned Towamencin Shopping Village in Lansdale, PA from February 6, 2020. This was a surprise visit, seeing this on the side of the road just piqued our interest. In an area of rapid dense development, this dark, forgotten looking place felt worthy of documentation. There is not a lot of solid information out there besides other retail enthusiasts also documenting this place in pictures. The township has very recently approved redevelopment plans for this plaza that appear to be just about ready to get started, so this may have been a fortuitous visit after all. Rather than some poorly cited Wikipedia article, a link to the redevelopment plans, as reported by local media are included after the music playlist, along with a Yelp review from 2019.

There was a time when the Towamencin Shopping Village was an awesome shopping center, now it's just a sad shell of what it used to be. This review isn't slighting the stores that are still there (Verizon, Boston Market, Wendy's, Wells Fargo and The Store) they are all decent stores and are addressed in their own reviews. As for the shopping center, I grew up 5 minutes away and I've been coming here for most of my life and I still remember the stores that once filled this awesome shopping center. Blockbuster, Genuardi's, Subway, Eckerd Drugs (later Rite Aid), Postman Plus, Dollar Tree, Sears Hardware and Donatos Pizza were some of my favorites. Some restaurants like the Pizza Pub relocated nearby but for the most part each store closed one by one and now it is only used for parking Amazon delivery trucks. They even cut down all the trees in this shopping center!
There are rumors of what they are doing with this shopping center, although noone knows for sure. I still go because the Wells Fargo is my main bank and I like supporting the other food chains as well. I hope I can update one day when they finally do something with this shopping center but for now it's just a sad reminder of better days.
