This Band ain't no Joke !! The Horn Section Legendary 🎶🎺🎷 🔥 this band has been together they are still on tour celebrating 50 years ! Would like to see them inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 😍
The three of you have such great smiles. The 70s were full of musical diversity. My husband and I have a shoebox full of concert tix stubs. At least 1 or 2 concerts a month from the 70"s to present day. My husband passed 5 years ago so I don't go too much anymore. It was such a great time
So sorry about your husband. I too have a shoebox full of all my concert tickets. The 70s were the best decade to grow up in, musically and otherwise. I have seen many legendary musicians and very thankful to have seen them. Much love to you.
Sorry for your lost. Hope you will another Concert Buddy to enjoy ToP in concert FAN of ToP!! Had the privilege of being in.a recording session with the horn section Davis Garibaldi (normal ToP drummer who worked with Rocco on Da Funk on The Bottom) was a BAD BOY!! Rocco is ROCCO!!!!! Glad these Boys are still playing today
I grew up in the Bay Area, my parents were huge Tower fans and my uncle, a musician, knew the band well. I grew up on this music. Thanks for taking me back to what was a very funky childhood!
Rocco Prestia was one of the greatest bass players ever. RIP. Check out a more recent live performance of them, maybe "Knock Yourself Out" or "We Came to Play."
@@willasacco9898 They are! And, I've gone a couple times. I couldn't get tickets for this weekend's shows however. The shows this weekend were sold out before the pandemic when they had to cancel last year. The Spinners are also still going, and still put on fabulous shows also! 💃🕺
Rocco Presta the bass player was driving that bus. I remember going to his house in Hayward and driving over the bridge to watch their show at the Circle Star theater in San Mateo. They always put on a great show.
OMG... As if your channel couldn't get better!!! Love watching Jamal, love watching the brothers together. I wish you'd throw a family BBQ and invite your YT peeps. I would actually deal with the crazy people on planes for that cookout!!! ❤️😁👍🏼🎼🎶🎼❤️
thanks Jamal, reading your comments made me realize how many people my age are still listen this music after 50+yrs. God bless you n your listeners. i thought i was by myself.
After being a fan since the 70's, I finally got to see them live at the Columbus (OH) Rib & Jazz Festival in 2016. Then after the concert I found I was staying in the same hotel as the band. I got to share an elevator with Mimi and the Funky Doctor. They were very nice, shook my hand and we had a brief conversation.
Jamel, I love watching you and your brothers react together. I got to see TOP Live in 1972. They were playing in a coffe house/night club called Funky Quarters in San Diego. The lead singer then was an amazing man named Rick Stevens, who sadly went on to live most of his life in a penitentiary. They were magic that night, their first hit song was just getting air play. I saw them about 6 months later at the San Diego Sports Arena. TOPs alumni roster is huge. They are the very best of what they do. "Your Still a Young Man" "At the Nightclub" and "Bump City" are three favorites from early on.
You are the very Best! I also Love you’re family. I love when you go on excursions. You are open minded and understand that we are all from different Generations. Tower of Power was so amazing. They have so many other amazing songs. It was Pure Funk back then! Thank You for being a Good Human Being. You have the gift.
I saw them back in the early 70s and they were so...much...fun! The 70s were fun and the energy was so different from today. I wish I had a time machine!
So many incredible Tower of Power songs. Check out “Down to the Nightclub”, “Knock Yourself Out”, “So I Got to Groove”, “Soul With a Capital S”, “As Surely As I Stand Here” (I could go on and on with this list)
You all are having just too much fun here. I had the good fortune to catch this band in a little club in Redding, CA about 1981. I can tell you the audience was jumping way more than the folks at this venue.
I've been waiting for someone to show some love to Tower of Power! My mother has been a big fan for as long as I've been alive and we were fortunate enough to catch them live once on a vacation. Definitely need to dive a bit further into them and enjoy some classics. #LoveAndPeace #AndPower.
i was listening to top just 2 days ago. iam 69yrs.n seen them in clubs, concerts, n followed them from day 1.Santana&top sound grabbed n why i bought 1st set drums 1970.n conga s n went down that road (rabbit hole?)50+ yrs.i play top's albums (vinyl) for physical therapy now thats fan loyalty. people ask where'd you get that music! tell em its east bay grease (oakland) that whole album (cd)should get u hooked. squib cakes
He looks like Prince and Mick Jagger's lovechild. And, then Quintel said, "He looks like our Dad." Dayum, fellas, you've got some real funky music royalty in your blood. 😄
Been diggin' these cats since '72. I'm partial to Lenny Williams on vocals ('73-'74), but they put on a helluva show regardless of players. Seen them live from '74 through '14, and they never disappoint.
J man! Thanks for bringing the music to the people. Some people would not know what to search for. Your channel helps them find the good stuff they probably would have missed.
Oh my heavens...Our mamma came in the day we got this 45 and just stared at us and said "and my mamma thought Chuck Berry was atrocious". She should have realized it was coming...the best of funk still rocks my turntable!
Jamel, I love your videos where it's just you but I think these videos you are doing with your brothers are even better, you guys have great vibe together.
On the mic stand boxing... totally different style, but reminded me of Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip. One of his many antics was having a boxing match with the mic stand while the band played, and sometimes losing.
Jamal have you ever seen Tower of Power live before? They are still at it all these years later. I first saw them in 1992, but I just saw them live in the summer and they are still incredible. Check them out!!!
I love duing the drum solo all of you bobbing your heads in the same way, and then realizing I'm doing it too. I have the album version of this on vinyl. Picked it up at a random thrift store for like $3!
Excellent reaction! T.O.P. are legends and deservedly so. Their horns create a "wall of sound" like no other, and when it comes to the funk they're either at or very near the top (pardon the pun). Be sure to react to my favorite of theirs, "Soul Vaccination." Simply amazing.
Jamel, they will be on tour, you should make it a must to see them live!! I was with them celebrating their 40th anniversary on a Jazz cruise, they were special guests. It was amazing, what a party it was!!! I really would like for you to see this other gem this track “Boys from the Bay” talk about horns!!! So be aware they were not only saxses, also trumpets!
THIS is hip!! A pleasure to watch this with you and your bros, J, cheers! ;>D Could also be asking what is smart? What is just? What is in the best interests of the most people, humans? Of the planet we call home? What is? What needs to be done, and acknowledged as needing doing?
Back in the mid 70s there was a black guy who dressed exactly like him and let me tell ya all the ladies wanted to couple skate with him. He did some killer dancing on skates and glided the ladies effortlessly across the floor. He was the best skater on the floor. Thanks for the memories
So many TOP songs to check out, Diwn to the Nightclub, You're Stiil a Young Man for their slower side, or Will I Ever Find A Love. Soul Vaccination and Drop It In The Slot
I cant remember if youve reacted to The Blues Brothers yet...but if you havent...you NEED to! And a lot of the intrument section of this band is in the movie!
RIP Rocco Prestia. Tower of Power represents the best in people... and makes me smile. All the while the news media plays folks against each other. I don't understand it. Just be a good human.
hipness is... what it is... i LOVED covering this song!! horns done right KRUSH!! btw, when you gonna do "close to the edge" with your brothers? blow their minds!!
LOL - I just commented on your original reaction - I wanted to see if you and your brothers would all move the same to this one! Shout Out to all your Fam!
