My name is Eric and I travel with my cat, “Jax” in a 2012 Coachmen Mirada 32BH Class A Motorhome on a Ford Super Duty truck chassis. (V10 Triton) We travel about 35 miles a day chasing 70 degrees year-round since 2010. I travel with a 2009 Honda CMX 250 on the back of my RV on a Titan Ramp 600lb carrier. Bike goes 78mph and gets 70mpg. Here is my gear & some popular questions answered:

As for you exhaust manifold leaks, after you get it repaired again, I suggest that you always let the V-10 idle for a couple of minutes, particularly after highway runs, to let temperatures even out before you shut it down. Those manifolds are, what, about 3 or more feet long and the uneven heat when you've been running hard can warp them. Just a thought. -Bob

Think you Eric I always enjoy your videos. Here's an idea shortened the 2" hitch part for the motorcycle Carrier. So it slides in closer to the RV.

There is tongue weight, the motorcycle and the rack have tongue weight. He should be fine for doing this. I see it all the time on class a motorhomes. They usually have 3 hitch points for the motorcycle carrier for heavier bikes thou.

I think the flipped hitch can work, but I’d recommend modifying the ratchet strap arms. They are less likely to hit if they were a little shorter and swept upwards (45 degrees). My concern is a sharp turn on an incline, which could cause that arm to contact Tater Tot. Easy mod for any basic welding shop. And if you’re getting that done, maybe move the motorcycle channel closer to the back of the RV. Lot less stress on the hitch, and less likely to contact the Tot. One can never have too many toys...

If you check online you will find hitch extender receivers that work with your blue ox hitch, we are running a 48” hitch extension with a 10” riser to tow our raised Jeep behind our Dodge 3500 dually with our Lance 1131 cabover camper, on different surfaces you will notice a big difference on where your towed vehicle comes into so if you dip down Tator tot could come up and very likely hit the bike or visa versa. I mean it looks like yeah what you setup can possibly work, although you might run into a issue on different levels, for peace of mind you might consider at least a short hitch extension receiver for your blue ox system to get tater tot out a little ways further.

Happy to see you're not getting rid of your bike. You've given us bikers a reason to keep following you. Happy to see that your demo of the towing system included a sharp turn. Am relieved to see that you're going to elevate the bike higher than the towing mechanism. Would like to have seen the effect of heavy braking, however. As a point of curiosity, do your car brakes engage with your RV brakes like a towed trailer braking system might?

To add a little stability to the MC carrier & some additional peace of mind consider adding two additional receiver mounts to each side of the MC carrier. Campervan Kevin did this to his class A, I think this is a good idea in your MC/car situation.

The only thing you might have to worry about would be making tight turns on a incline where the motorcycle tiedown strap hook might get into the Blue Ox arms. Don't worry about the internet, it's already broken. LOL! Happy Birthday Jax!

Hey Eric, try and keep the Blue Ox towbars level no matter what you do. Mine wasn’t and I had to put in a drop down. What happens is as you drive it picks the front wheels of the tow car up it’ll make it less stable when your toe. I bought the Blue Ox drop down it’s rated for towing.

Good testing out the set-up. And as I am myself studying for my RV a hitch option for bike rack and towing a tow dolly I suspected that maybe your hitch was upside down. We like your videos. Thanks for sharing.

My concern with the hitch system is that if it's rated for a 400 lb static load and you hit a bump, your load will increase exponentially.

Even though I may not have the best angle to see it, I am still concerned that in a situation where you are almost bottoming out, will the tow bars not hit the bike rack. I liked the idea of flipping the hitch to the correct position. That would make the tow bars angle down more and raise the bike rack higher away from them. Good luck!🍀👍

Be careful, it won't work. It works if you stay perfectly level. As soon as the tail of the RV drops and you turn, the motorcycle rack will hit the blue ox arms, then you will be making a fail video.

You can also look into the castor type wheels that attach on the hitch or somewhere else in the back that keep you from bottoming out the hitch.

Granted they were diesel pushers for the most part, but I've seen many Class A RVs, many older than yours. with two Harley "Sportsters" or similar weight and size motorcycles on racks while towing either smallish cars, pickups, or SUVs. I've also seen a large number of Class As (and more than a few Class Cs) towing dual axel cargo trailers on interstates at posted speed limits with apparent ease. I have no idea what brand/manufacturer of the tow systems were being utilized as I never thought to ask on those occasions when I would pull up to the pumps or in a camp ground near such combinations. But baring a massive failure of materials (in the system you are using) I don't see how you can go wrong taking both your car and your motorcycle on the road.

The only problem I could think of is that if your turning while at the bottom of a steep driveway the rear of the motorcyle carrier frame may push into the bars connected to the car

I see it all the time however the motorcycles are generally higher. It is good you have concerns to check turning issues and once checked you should be good to go,

The only thing to look at now is your rear bumper making contact with the Tow Bar as you go up / down driveways and the like. The smartest thing you can do ! @4:34..... An old trick whit the Ford V-10 is to Double up the Exhaust Gaskets.

Good to see that's a working solution. I always wondered if the blue ox pistons compressed under braking....I am assuming they still don't compress if you don't use your brake pedal pusher thing in tater tot. Happy birthday Jax! Hope your getting along with your stunt double😉

All looks good on level ground, but will it clear if you take a hard turn into a drive that is higher or lower then the road. An option could be to remove the back bike tubes and attach the bike to the back of the RV with two adjustable tubes, these would also make it easier to load and secure the bike for travel.

Good video Eric. I have a question for you. Is there a reason that you don't use a rear mud skirt on the back of the motor home? It would definitely deflect small stones etc. from hitting tater tot and dinging it or breaking the windshield. Probably keep her a bit cleaner as well....just sayin'

Cant tell from the video, but it looks like the Blue Ox arms pass under the Motorcycle tie down bar on a turn. That could be bad if you hit a dip that drops the RV's tail and they make contact. Maybe mount the GoPro on Tator-Tots hood/bumper/fender to get a closer angle to see the spacing.. Personally I would flip the hitch so the motorcycle was higher. [EDIT I see you confirm it was upside down later in the video.]

I've seen lots of rigs with motorcycle and toad you can also get a hitch extender if you think the car is too close and want more room there just in case, probably not an issue with that tiny car though, would be more likely to need it with something taller

What about when you come out of a driveway and the car is higher in the air isn’t the towbar going to hit the underside of the motorcycle platform?

That was on flat ground. You might have a problem if you are turning and starting up a hill or incline. The blue ox arms looked pretty close to that motorcycle mount but that could be a perspective issue with camera placement.

I would be concerned with up/down clearance. You tested on a flat lot, but try turning and coming out of a parking lot. Putting the bike higher would help.

Is it possible if you were to go over a deep swell or dip in the pavement like entering a gas station or driveway that the tie down arms for the motorcycle could hit the tow bars?

Just be careful making a tight turn on an incline. You’ll loose a few inches of your clearance (between the bike carrier and the BlueOx). Keep the videos coming! They’re terrific!!
