My Gran(God rest her soul) lived in Broadstairs in the 1970s, and she also knew the actor John Le Mesurier who lived not far from her so she told me. The beach was great to me as a child, as was the cliff tunnel lift/cable train and Peter Pan railway on the beach. I remember this shop as well with chickens that revolved around on a rotisserie near that arch. Have lots of memories of the place. And the station - train spotting both on an early evening and me getting out of bed early to see a 71 on the boat train!! Happy days.

+Jahda Lennie The weather is similar to the rest of England in the summer months, although Thanet does have the highest average sunshine hours in the UK, so you've a better chance of a sunny day in Kent than anywhere else. Also, the highest temperature in the UK was in Kent. :)
Many thanks Geoff, how are are you? Please I am trying to choose where I can live and hesitating between maidstone, ashford and folkestone. My husband likes the countryside but I don't drive loll. So was looking for a lovely place where buses will be easier and also a bit closer to the countryside. Please which of these cities will you recommend me to live?
Jahda Lennie If you like the coast as well as countryside, then Folkestone would be your best choice; it will also be the cheapest as it is furthest from London. Folkestone is where the Channel Tunnel starts, so if you have a car in your family (I know you said you don't drive), it's a nice way to cross the channel for day trips etc; the Shuttle Trains take 25 minutes to get to France. :) If you'd prefer to cross the channel at a slightly slower pace, Dover is only 15 minutes away, where you could take a ferry crossing to Calais in about 1¼-1½ hours sailing time - and you don't need a car as you can travel as a foot passenger. I used to live in Ashford about 17 years ago. We left because it was getting too big for our liking. In it's favour are the excellent rail links to London and the continent, as there is an international train station in Ashford where you can catch the Eurostar; my ex-wife and I went to Paris from Ashford when we lived there and were amazed that we were able to board the train in Paris and were back home less than 2.5 hours later (2 hours on the train, then 10-15 minutes drive home). Ashford is 20 minutes from Folkestone and 35 minutes from Dover, so it is very well placed for travel. Ashford is also surrounded by some lovely countryside, pretty villages etc., and some good bus connections to places such as the City of Canterbury, 15 miles away. I'm not too familiar with Maidstone. It is the closest of the three towns to London, although because Ashford has the High Speed rail link (HS1), it may actually be quicker to London from Ashford than Maidstone! Maidstone is Kent's County Town, or Capital if you like. Driving through or in the vicinity of Maidstone can be very difficult at times; it would be my last choice of the three. AS you may know, Kent is known as the Garden of England due to the many arable farms and fruit orchards that are scattered throughout the county. There is also the hop growing that still exists for the beer brewing industry and more and more vineyards are appearing for the growing wine-making industry. Consequently, there is a LOT of countryside to visit as well as one of the longest coastlines in the UK, with many sandy beaches to the east and south of the county. Personally, my choice would be Folkestone or the adjoining town of Hythe, but then, I love living by the coast. :)

Geoff, I am extremely sorry to disturb you again, lol you might have had enough of me lol. Please what about jobs in Folkestone? I might probably work for Eurostar or Eurotunnel as i have admin experience + business managemrnt degree"hopefully". I do agree with you for the prices in Folkestone. Flats are even cheaper there than ashford. I think I will move to Folkeston and maybe if I get a job in Ashford I can travel by coach. Geoff many many thanks again for your help.
You're welcome. Travel to Ashford on the train is less than 15 minutes from Folkestone West station. I happen to know that the Eurostar offices in Ashford are about 5 minutes walk from the station, as they are in the same office block as my employer. :) If you're looking for jobs, then just do the usual thing of checking with agencies locally or on-line.
I stayed here last summer... (I'm italian)... I loved this place! I was alone, without my family. I remember the school: 4 white buildings!! Kent school. It was the better holyday in my life... I've known a lot of people, german, french, and italian too: I've known my friend Leonardo, but I don't have his telephone number and i can't find it on facebook. So, Brodstairs is a fantastic place"!!!!
the place is a ghost town its English people who have abandoned the towns so Who will come. without people council don't have money. Don't hate people moving in. Invite welcome them. Bad vibes in Kent. Destroying English pride friendliness, disgrace to UK.
