Amarillo has a golden opportunity, and they should seize the moment. They've got Loop 335 being upgraded to a freeway, and that's huge. West and southwest Amarillo have the greatest potential for growth in that metro region. Why not seize that opportunity? That video is very impressive.
Nice, but I'm not interested in spacious parking in a surface lot. A high end apartment building like this should provide a parking garage to protect resident's cars from sun, hail, dust storms and tornadoes! Plus, it would make a nice storm shelter for the residents in an emergency.
And Johnny boy we hope you stay over there! This is for this city to remain industrious. And attract the whole panhandle, and 3 other states to come to our city and spend money! Not for one side of the city to complain about the other. I believe it's a great opportunity in capitalism.
I'm not understanding how this will be so great...with Amarillo and panhandle being a dust bowl, outside dining won't be an option. Imagine all the dust in your food and beverage?! Plus, Amarillo is outdated and isn't growing that much that this place would attract any young, fresh graduates...I'm a transfer student who graduated from WT and almost everyone I went to school with graduated and left the panhandle. That says a lot for any potential growth of this dilapidating city. Live in many cities and states and Amarillo has to be one of the worst. great housing market (as far as affordability), but nothing else. Lubbock, TX is definitely growing and I could see this village for a place like Lubbock, but not Amarillo. who will this place attract? Those from smaller surrounding cities who hasn't seen anything better than this their entire life? It's not like this will include a string of Tanger outlet stores or a strip mall stores that would even interest people enough. And I can imagine the disturbance to the residents with all the traffic flow; paying a lot of money to live there and getting no peace or rest when needed most. sounds like a great idea, but in reality, not so much. My friend lives in the apartments in this village now, and is complaining out tic probs from the dogs, loud music from the courtyard in the day, and the dusty dryer lint filled halls in which they decided to build along the halls of the apartment buildings instead of them leading outside. Some place this will be!
Lubbock is a joke of a city, they are pushing growth and expansion more and more and so far thats got them only a few 10,000 more residents. They are trying so hard its kinda sad, whereas Amarillo is just steadily still growing without trying to. There are much more options for making money in amarillo as opposed to lubbocks university\medical based jobs. Plus Lubbock was already ranked most boring city in america, so nobody would want to move there anyways apart from members of the south plains or college students who cant make it to a real texas college (Tech is a joke too). We actually have a real interstate passing through as well, as opposed to their dead end wish it was a real interstate highway. This is good for the Amarillo area to attract more growth and give the residents already here more things to do, not like we are lacking, there is already plenty to keep families happy.
Sounds like you need to stay in Lubbock (talk about a HUGE dust bowl- red dirt in the sky) BTW Amarillo is growing at leaps and bounds. I hadn't been back to Amarillo in a couple of years and when I came back- I couldn't believe in just 2 short years, all the buildings, apartments, stores, restaurants, and entire neighborhoods that popped up overnight and not to mention the new downtown buildings and stadium. AMARILLO is AWESOME!! Maybe the problem you encountered while living in Amarillo had nothing to do with the city- maybe the problem was you.
