Thank you Harry. Always love the shout out. Townes, in my opinion is the greatest song writer of all time. He doesn't have a bad song in his catalog. Some songs, like "Marie" are so hard to listen to because Townes is unflinching in the face of desperation and pain. He tells the truth and he lays it bare and that's why he makes us laugh, cry, joyful and thankful that those who know of Townes, have, in their hearts, something totally raw, beautiful and true. Great reaction!!!

Townes had great songs and was very highly thought of by his contemporaries , so much so that Steve Earle named his son after him. Nice pick Adam I hope we get to hear more, thanks to you and Harri.

I played and traveled with Townes for a number of years. He was a kind and gentle man with the heart and soul of a poet. I miss him deeply.

I consider Townes one of the finest songwriters ever. He, much like Vincent van Gogh, suffered from mental illness and died very young in early January 1992, both creating masterpieces in their short lives. Everyone knows he wrote "Pancho and Lefty," made famous by Willie Nelson & Merle Haggard, but his repertoire went much deeper than that. "Marie" absolutely captures what it's like being homeless. "Rake" is another great one. Thank you, Harri, for reacting to this.

Townes called Susanna Clark (Guy Clark's wife) everyday, until one day he didn't. R.I.P. Townes, thanks for the poetry.

Townes Van Zandt (RIP) was a monster songwriter in the folk/country/american styles and is hugely influential. He is considered by many to be up there with Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan. His best known song is the masterpiece "Pancho & Lefty", covered by Willie & Merle as well as Emmylou Harris. Some other songs to check out are Rex's Blues (referenced in Jason Isbell's new track "Back When We Were Close" - a killer song about Justin Townes Earle, you should check out), "Mr. Gold & Mr. Mudd" (best poker song ever, sorry "The Gambler), "Flying Shoes", "Lungs", "Rake" and "If I Needed You" are all stellar. There's a heartbreaking documentary about his life and mental health struggles called "Be Here to Love Me" that is well worth the time.

His partner was killed by a serial killer so headed to the mountains for a few years and came back with all these songs. He also had electric shock treatment and therefore lost all of his childhood memories. He said his songs weren't sad song, but full of hopelesness. Townes was an incredibly gifted songwriter and like most geniuses, was tortured. Watch the documentary, be here to love me to try and get a glimpse of his life.

Townes is one of the two best songwriters of all time, the other being kristofferson. Townes was more of a writer than a singer, but he can still bring a grown man to tears. Might I suggest though, that you listen to the wade bowen cover of this song, featuring the great guy Clark. It is spectacular!

Thanks for reacting to Townes:) He was a wonder. Singing wasn't his forte but story telling and poems. He was deep, and troubled w addictions that unfortunately plagued his career and then took his life. Texas Rain is a great album and my favorite.

I’d guess “If I Needed You” is his most covered song. Emmylou Harris does a Killer version. TVZ is utterly without artifice.

"The finest writer the state of Texas ever gave birth to", how do I know that? That was the quote made by one of my all time favorite singers, Nanci Griffith. She made that comment when she introduced Townes Van Zandt at an America Music Shop performance where she invited Townes to sing with her the song he wrote called "Tecumseh Valley", also one of my favorites songs. He sang that song with Nanci better than he sang this one. You can find that performance on RU-vid along with many of his other great songs. Any song with Nanci Griffith is good listening. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kc6AsDmuD2U.html

He’s definitely up at the top of greatest Texas songwriters, but Willie, Guy Clark, Billie Joe Shaver, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Hayes Carll, Jerry Jeff Walker and Robert Earl Keen might have something to say about that.
@rocroc
@rocroc 6 месяцев назад
@@BC-cp8nv- that was Nanci's opinion (in quotes) formed before she was eleven years old (1964). It was also the opinion of a host of other writers and performers over the years who voted to give him honors for the work he did including Guy Clark. There is a video out there where Van Zandt was given a best writers award by the writers themselves. You didn't include Nanci Griffith herself on the list but she has probably written as many hit songs as any of them. In fact, the reason for the performance noted here was to promote a new album called "Other Voices Other Rooms" and all of the writers who contributed to her work were honored and appeared at that performance. Some of those mentioned above were included on the program. If you like their music you will like that program:-) There are some good and bad editions of the program still on RU-vid. @@rocroc dude, why the attitude and hostility? I wasn’t arguing with you. I was just saying that there are a lot of great song writers from Texas. Anyone I mentioned, along with Nanci and some others, could legitimately be considered the best. It’s just my opinion, and mine is just as valid as yours, guy Clark’s or anyone else’s. I definitely don’t need a lecture from you. Have a great week!.Hook’em

@@BC-cp8nv- no hostility what so ever. You seemed to have an interest and what I provided falls right in line with that interest. All of the folks you mention are right there in the mix together. They all worked together forming a group of the top writers ever in the music business. I thought you might like to look at that album made by Nanci Griffith because many of them worked together in the project to bring to the front some of the best music ever made.

And how do we fly? By understanding different facets of life - that means the different cultures of the world or religion which is culture in a condensed form. The following is a hydration ceremony done on the statues of various Gods representing Monday. Different liquids are poured onto them throughout the video - buttermilk, orange juice, honey, rice curd, yoghurt, milk, rice flour, sugar cane juice, coconut water etc. - each having different symbolism. Hydration ceremony is one type of Pooja performed in Hinduism. ru-vid.comrUE5EhEHQEk?si=nLVyz5BOmZKFvydh

Can you guess which is the main deity or statue representing Monday? It is the Shiva Tandev (Shiva dancing in dissolving the Universe) the 3rd statue from left to right. In the last part of the 1dt half of this video of the hydration ceremony where chopped flowers are offered to all 5 statues, it was capped off with Shiva being offered the red big flower, the white big flower and Shiva''s favourite - the Bilva leaves. When you put on your thinking cap - no fear need exist, nor need hide behind a mocking veneer nor questioning with a condescending mind - UNDERSTANDING IS EVERYTHING. Venus and the Moon being the water planets give understanding.
