I left a 15 year toxic relationship. BEST THING I ever did! He’s a narcissist and it was hell, being with him! Life got so much better when we broke up! 🖤

So you figured this out after 15 years?

When I was in a toxic relationship, I felt like the relationship was shit because of me. I thought if I did everything that person wanted, then we’ll be happy. But it takes both sides to fix a relationship. If your partner is not willing to listen, discuss, negotiate, compromise, give their ideas, and actually collaborate, if they’re always making you the problem, your relationship will not be fixed. When you felt like you’ve loses control, don’t always feel like you have to put in more effort. Sometimes you regain control by leaving that shitty situation.

This resonates with me so much. After being in a marriage for over 20 years with 3 children I couldn’t stay with my controlling, abusive, narcissistic husband anymore. Especially because it was teaching my boys how women should be treated by staying with him. I was terrified and worried but left and it was the best decision ever. I chose not to date for 2 years so I could learn to be by myself without a partner. I’d always had long term boyfriends since I was 13 so this was good for me. I also went to therapy and worked through my issues with men and my family. My children also had therapy to have someone to speak to instead of their parents. I recently discovered your podcasts and I really enjoy them a lot so thank you!❤it’s better to be alone than with someone who’s toxic and abusive in any circumstance. It was very difficult to leave( actually kick him out) but in the long term it’s so much better & healthier for everyone involved.

I just finally walked away from the most toxic relationship so you have no idea how badly I needed this episode right now.. and reading all the DG's comments of exactly all the thoughts and feelings you go through when you're in the thick of it.. it's good to feel that I'm not alone in that and that I'm NOT crazy and that it does in fact get better! Love you Alex!

Well this hits home. Married at 23, and 2 kids later I finally got the confidence and courage to divorce his narcissistic, judgemental, controlling ass last year. It was so freeing... I've never felt more like myself than I do now.

I was in a toxic relationship with an ex military soldier that would choke me and try to make me do sex work. We were both on the athletics team but i quit but he said hed take care of me the rest of our lives but he slowly took over my life even telling me what clothes to wear i had to always wear a cap and tip it to whoever he wanted. I eventally said enough is enough and left it was the best thing i ever did i got rid of all the tattoos he made me get, i threw out all the crosses and 6 pointed stars he made me wear, and i no longer live in america i moved away so he couldnt stalk me he now has a restraining order from the police and im living my best life as a civilian.

But also we should make people aware of the toxic within ourselves .. our relationship will not always be rainbows and great sex you still have to work on it people can be nasty not agree with you and moody and that doesn’t mean they are toxic people can just be having a bad day or moment in time

Yusss 🫰🫰🫰. 3 yrs post divorce and 2 yrs post narc abuse and this is 💯 percent correct. Plot that exit, and go (bc I know you’ve prob been pleading to be loved properly). Don’t focus on how you feel for them, but how they make you feel!

So much more to it than just walking out that door, if your have money ok u can walk but you don't know? Lots of people listening to you are broke and broken at the stage leaving comes around, and the girls and lads you read about are at the end of it and death is even on they minds, so I hear you now? Leave and get a job it can take weeks months even before a person leaving there other half is mentally stable enough to even go out side,, stop would you for fuck sake u don't live in the real world, its so easy to give advice when it's no you going through the shit. Every situation has a learning curve? U only learn when its u going through it;)
