Omg...I suddenly stopped the video thinking yes that's right..but when I continued watching I was shocked literally figuring out that this is what I'm exactly doing telling myself "I shouldn't feel this way I am positive" ignoring how bad I feel !!

Thank you for this. I also heard all my life to 'just think positive'. Of course sometimes it helps but usually in my situation it makes me feel totally useless that I SHOULD think positive, but I'm so rubbish that I'm not able even to to this. And yeah, gaslighting - been there, experienced it.

Definitely been gaslit. Mom’s specialty. And it continued in later relationships (when it’s your norm growing up, you never learn to see it as a red flag). Therapy for years.

I have been gaslighted since birth, but in particular, my ex would constantly tell me I was TOO emotional and he just couldn't handle it so keep it to myself.... because my reactions to his treatment were "incorrect." I have never had an environment where I could fully unmask. (I am on the autistic spectrum) Everyone in one way or another has told me to shut up and stop complaining either by telling me to think more positively, my attitude sucked, or just outrightly telling me. The end point is the same, they don't want to deal with messy and you are an inconvenience at that moment if you're not sunshine and sprinkles. I have ignored many health issues because I have learned to not trust myself because of all the gaslighting I have endured. I vehemently hate the dismissal that toxic positivity can produce and the invalidation. It's gross.
