I remember playing with these dolls! I used to love them! I remember the colour would bleed into the skin though. Especially with Sapphire I remember the blue bleeding all the way up her legs from her boots.

I catch so much crap for collecting golden girl but to me its badass and I just learned about the tents that's crazy the palace of gems is a grail for me congrats for owning one with the box in good shape

Awesome video! This is the most detailed video about Golden Girl on RU-vid. Such a spooky “girls” toy line. I had a few of the figures but never knew what they were.

I loved this so much. I have the palace and dolls from my childhood. They were the only dolls that I accidentally damaged. I was incredibly careful with my toys but the leg to torso joints were plastic pins that snapped easily. Not even superglue could save them. Great memories tho.

Girls don’t know how good they had it with this line! I have a few of these loose. That package art was incredible! I’m going to make it a point to snag a few more someday! House of gems is arguably one of the coolest playsets back then. Great in depth video!

I just realized I had a few of these as a kid, but always thought they were She-Ra figures.

I had the majority of those figures years ago, got them from a collector on ebay at a great price. I later resold them. Back in the 1980s, I did see Golden Girl before She-Ra because She-Ra debuted a little later where I lived and also got a lot more exposure. I wanted to have Golden Girl and her friends as companions for He-Man, of course. That would have rocked. Thank you very much for the views of the castle playset, this was the first time ever I saw it up close and out of the box. Galoob used very bad plastic for their playset pieces, of course. The same thing was true for their "male" action figure line Blackstar from 1983. The figures were a great basic concept, but the fortress was super-cheaply made. The dream tents were a novel idea, obviously, and actually give me some ideas.

Been trying to complete this line for years that palace of the gems is incredibly rare and fragile the horses are fragile too cant wait to see this

Absolutely INCREDIBLE review! I loved these dolls-action figures! They were truly MAGNIFICENT! Although the quality of the plastic was not the best, the design was FANTASTIC! Especially that castle. Thanks so much for this review. It was much needed.

I LOVED these!! I never even managed to get the whole line, and only 4 of the 5 guardians. I just wish Golden Girl herself had an actual name. Obviously she was going to be either the daughter or lost sister of Queen Solaria, but come on...even Adora started out with a name over on the She-Ra cartoon, even though she was raised by the bad guy who kidnapped her as a baby. I am *TOTALLY* surprised to learn that She-Ra was developed first, because I definitely remember GG figure on my store shelves before She-Ra, and my brother and I were He-Man fans, so I'd have known about her first, it seems like. It's crazy to me to find out that GG came out 2 months later. Maybe my stores held back the She-Ra figures for a couple of months, or they didn't have them in stock yet for some reason? But I always thought the girls on the GG line looked more badass with their flat-heeled boots instead of the high heeled ones She-Ra wore, and She-Ra's little skirt looked ridiculous to me. We had already come to love Teela and Evil-Lyn over on the MOTU cartoon with their more practical outfits, their helmets and updos. Why did She-Ra have to be such a girly-girl with the skirt and the long hair and the horse that was both a pegasus AND a unicorn, with rainbow wings to boot? We 80's girls were trying to learn to be tough like Princess Leia in Star Wars or Scarlett over in G.I. Joe, Cheetara in ThunderCats, or Steelheart in Silverhawks. Yet, whenever Adora became She-Ra, she had to be *more* feminine than before.

Great episode! Love it when I get to learn something about toys off my radar. The research shows and you did a great job putting it all together.

Excellent video! I love how in-depth you went. I have a very vague memory of these existing, but had no idea how much Galoob put into the line. I love finding out about lesser known toy lines or fandoms, particularly things from my era that I knew basically nothing about. Great designs and fun (very 80's) characters. If only they had a comic and/or cartoon. That castle playset is truly a forgotten gem (no pun intended) and although I'm sure it's highly unlikely, I think Hasbro could bring the license back in 6" and make some pretty cool modern figures if they wanted to.

Growing up, my sisters used to have a few of these figures, but I only remembered 'Golden Girl'. Unfortunately whenever I did a search, it'd pull up the 'Golden Girls' sitcom (w/ Rose, Blanche, Dorothy, & Sophia). 😂 Thanks for the vid explaining the franchise.

He left out one thing. During the time there were 3 Golden Girl choose your own adventure books. Where the reader would become Golden Girl and see if they could make the right choices in defeating Dragon Queen and have a happy ending.

I prefer Golden Girl to She Ra. I used to have a complete set of U.S. characters in boxes. I never had any costumes or accessories. I never buy the vehicles and play sets in a toy line. I just want the figures.

My parents bought a few of these for me thinking they were part of the He-man collection back in the day

Thank you for this video! I utterly loved these figures when they came out, unfortunately my mother didn't and therefore I was never allowed to bring even one home with me! I particularly remembered Wild One and Dragon Queen's outfit with the big red circle on it. This year I was fortunate to find an auction of all the figures. Most of them aren't complete and a number need a lot of TLC, but I am very happy to finally have them. Certainly where I was living the Golden Girl figures appeared on the shelves first, but I hardly lived in the action figure capital of the world! Therefore I would have said that Golden Girl came first.

I've returned to collecting MOTU after many years because of the Origins line. So I'm very surprised to find this legion of lookalikes and knock-offs I'd never even heard of before. Some of them I'd add to my collection back in the day, no problem.

Great presentation! The fact that their shields were die-cast metal puts these characters in their own class. It's so tragic they didn't make an animation! What would it take to buy the rights and hire an animation firm (like in Japan) to produce an animated series? The characters of this toyline were not just battling, but were having event competitions too, right? That's a different twist. The Fantasy-adventure female characters of the 1980s were so great. Besides Teela, She-ra, and Scarlett from G.I. Joe, action-oriented heroines have never gotten enough credit. By the way, you forgot to mention that the Olympia horse's horn and eyes lit up with its internal battery pack.

It's surprising that Neca or Super 7 haven't latched on to this i.p. and make those never produced figures n playsets. I think this is actually cooler than MOTU, and I guess in an alternate universe, this was their version of MOTU. . .

I have everything from the whole golden girl, wish there came more like more male warriors plus clothes for them. OMG... I had a Golden Girl figure back in the day. I really liked it, but her leg broke off and neither could it be glued back on or the figure replaced. It was sold in the german equivalent of a dollar store and went out of stock quite quickly. My memory of the figure was not very accurate, I thought it to be more detailed and with a more realistic face 😀

I sadly misstreated my two actiondolls. Still got one comb though. ( found the moth one in kinda good shake. Rip wildone =) )

They had a cassette tape - not mentioned My Kingdom for a Unicorn and something else. Olympia's ears get stopped up and Golden Girl gets captured and it's a.whole.thing. I can't find the tape anywhere nor a recording of it. *saaaaad

Thanks for hitting some of the more forgotten toy lines again. So their legs could bend but I don't see a joint. Were the legs designed like a Barbie's legs?

You know it's ashamed that this toy line didn't get a cartoon and that the new characters didn't see the light of day. And plus you can tell there where care put into this maybe in the future someone will pick this up

Its really too bad Golden Girls never got a cartoon. I feel like it would have been wonderfully unhinged. I have a decent sized Golden Girls collection from my childhood hood. I’m torn if I want to try properly restoring them. Almost all of them have at least one leg that has fallen off. Their leg pegs were really fragile. I’m tempted to just superglue them on.

Is it all the plastic that's fragile or just the gold parts suffering from gold plastic syndrome like some transformers from the same time frame ?

I noticed that the figures have blue circles around the legs. Is that from the plastic? I had some of these figures back in the day. I tried to integrate them into the He-Man line, but they were massive!

Basically, they ripped off DC's Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld. Or was it supposed to have been a line based on that comic and got changed?
