I scored a Mini Monsters Playcase this weekend for $65.00. Case is in fair shape, but all parts are there. Original operating table stick, drawbridge, instuctions and unused glow in the dark stickers. Ready for Halloween display. Love this video. Thanks.
I remember seeing the 3" figures in the back aisles of "toys r us" in Milwaukee, as late as '86. right next to the E.T. fingers and timetraveler Micronauts. if I only knew when I was 8 yrs. old!
I had the whole set and my mom sent in the proof of purchase for the case/play set. Was one of my favorite early toys. Trips me out I find them even cooler now.
I know this is an old video but I'm just discovering your channel. Thanks so much for posting. Oh how I enjoyed these as a child. My Grandmother got them for me, God rest her soul. Sadly I don't have them any longer, but when Sideshow released 8 and 12 inch versions in 2001 I had to get them. They give me the same nostalgic feeling. Mego's NOSFERATU goes perfect along side them.
Remco Dracula 1980 was my first toy ever (I know I had weird taste), my dad gave it to me and just bough it again sealed, I don't know, maybe I can open it with him, together. I'm exited :.)
Actually Boris Karloff played Frankenstein's monster....Lon Chaney Jr and Glenn Strange played him in later movies such as House of Frankenstein and Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein
How did I miss this review? I LOVE these 3/4in figures....they are YUMMY!!! I cannot wait to get the new remake figures....I LOVE ALL things Universal Monsters! Another amazing, amazing review by the master! Thank so much Count for sharing these adorable babies
Thanks for the comment and of course watching. I love the new Reaction monster figures but I could not get myself to purchase them. Since I have the originals, I have no need for the new remakes. They are great but not as good as the classics. However I will say this, the cards on the Reaction figures are insane. It's hard for me to not buy them.
CountStankus I know, you mentioned the same about the series 1 KISS retro 12in figures. I dont have original Remco minis so I have to buy the new ones. Im obsessed with Universal monsters and their movies too. What a golden era of movies. I LOVE your reviews because they are fun, interesting and you know your stuff. You can feel the appreciation for what you have and the memories that go with each item that is reviewed. As I get older I have fonder memories of some many of my childhood toys or things I wished I had then. Its only sweeter now because they have a special meaning.
I'm a starwars man toy wise....but I love these as I'm a huge universal horror fan. Never had these released in UK. After this I started to get a loose set ,got them all except phantom..really struggling to get him. Thanks to you I've got a cool looking set. 👍💀👍Happy Halloween from Liverpool UK🎃🎃🎃
I read a few things that you might find useful. Apparently the table is actually a bridge for the monsters to cross the bottomless pit and the cage is intended for the Creature from the Black Lagoon (like they had on the boat in the movie).
CountStankus Just looked up pictures and found one of the instructions. It also suggests that too close the house and keep all your monsters inside one monster should be under the slab, one ins the cage, two in the coffin, and two in the space between the slab and coffin. And those things on white paper are glow in the dark stickers.
Micheal Polant ---I'm glad you were able to find this. I figured out about the stickers after I made the review. There are 2 specific spots that you apply them to.
CountStankus Well there's the skull, the mask, and the panel and they all have a place were you can apply them but then the house doesn't look right with the lights on. Also as a suggestion (but I have no proof) perhaps having the rubber bands on the slab (even when no monsters on it) would help to keep it from falling apart when you turn it.
I had this play set back in the 1980s. It was always fun to use them to create alternate universes for my Star Wars action figures. Han Solo and company would be flying in the millennium falcon and suddenly be sucked into a vortex transporting them to a mysterious planet in another universe. After exploring the terrain for a period of time, they would stumble upon a cave leading them to the monsters layer. The remainder of the plot would revolve around their attempt to escape with their lives intact.
Love these figures. I have them loose and the carry case lab but none of them carded. They look great on the card. Great episode Count! Always full of great information.
Thanks man! I've been holding out on reviewing these for a long time. But it was finally time to do it! It's too bad that they did not make a few more characters.
CountStankus So true. I've been seeing quite a few of the different characters show up by custom toy makers. Same style sculpts with same kind of cards. They look pretty darn impressive.
The Remco Monsters hold a special place in my heart. These were the last toys I ever asked for. Not the last toys I ever received but even when I got some of the monsters that same Christmas I got leather Converse sneakers and clothes I asked for. I still have my Creature.
My absolute favorite toy as a kid! I searched for it forever but I am positive it was "yardsaled" or "yardsold". Thank goodness for Reaction and Super7. All I could ever find left was my original Wolfman.
Love the review, but why didn't you do a full review of the 9 inch remco monsters too? I have them and I can't find any reviews anywhere of them! Would love to see you do a review on these 9 inch monsters along with the monsterizer playset (which I had as a kid and was sold in a yard sale without my knowledge).
Thanks for watching. I do not have the 9" anymore. I sold them quite some time back. Believe me, if I had them still they would have all been in this review together. Sorry to hear about your monsterizer. My mother gave away some of my toys when I was kid without asking me when I was a kid. It still bothers me to this day!
Thanks for the info. I realized the mistake I made after I uploaded the video. Since I made this video I came across another playset with the instructions. So nice to have it complete
It's funny that the box art for Dracula is using Robert Quarry from Count Yorga. And the Frankenstein figure looks like Lon Chaney, Jr. From The Ghost of Frankenstein.
Those stickers go over the mummy's coffin, the skull on the wall, and the controls for Frankenstein. They glow in the dark. And that's not a table. It's a bridge that goes over the pit, Infront of the door.
+Count Stankus i don't know if you're still interested in the monsterizer for the 3 3/4 figures but a seller has one on ebay for 800 bucks. still in delivery box. so he claims
I believe his name was Bela Lugosi, not Belagosi, like you kept pronouncing it. Love these toys! The more recent. Funko ReAction toys are clearly inspired by these & while I don't all those? They're pretty cool!
Count Stankus You should review those too & maybe do a side by side comparison between these & the Funko Re-Action ones! Give us your impression on which you like best. I can already tell the leg sculpt of the ReAction Wolfman is not as accurate to the movie like the Remco version's legs are.
I got the nine inch Frankenstein and the monsterizer for Christmas 1980. My brother subsequently sold them on eBay. And for Christmas 1981 my parents got me the six mini-monsters and the play case. It's interesting in retrospect that the phantom of the opera had action figures and also appeared on wall posters and the like since he was from the silent era and it's very unlikely that a seventies and/or eighties kid would've seen a silent movie on television or on home media. nonetheless I'm glad he was represented.
I was the opposite. I loved the 9in figures and wasnt as stoked on the mini monsters. I didnt like the way the hands were on drac and the phantom especially. The 9in were more mego/ big jim like which is my sweet spot
I have these carded but the cards are slightly warped. Do you think If I put them in cases like you have they will straighten out or do you have any suggestions for straighten out a warped card?
i found 2 of these at a flea market a while ago. frankenstein with the glow in the dark head. and the regular wolf man one. 25 cents each. great shape.
@@toy_room_of_insanityit was. if you love horror i been doing tons of mask videos lately. just did a michael myers one. tomorrow the dryad mask. then the alien fly. just did a zombie and the nun mask recently. i got a ton of new horror mego and super hero mego figures to review soon. stay tuned.
I apologize for the confusion but, no. Instead of saying Boris Karloff I said Lon Chaney. I submitted my brain to be tested for disfunction and it was found!
