I'm proud, I donated all my toys to my family doctor's office. They still have them there to this day, almost 30 years later. It's amazing to go in and see kids playing with my old toys in the waiting area.

I always assumed Buzz froze in place because everyone else did it, so he thought it was part of the culture or a way to survive on the "planet". I had never thought of the idea of which toy was Andy's favorite before Woody. I think Woody was his dad's toy (you'll learn in the second movie the toy has origins dating back farther than a kid Andy's age would be interested) and his dad died when he was really young, which is why he keeps Woody for so long. Also adds a subtle extra emotional punch in the third movie.
@ChrissaTodd
@ChrissaTodd 8 месяцев назад
i think he still has the instinct to do it even though he thinks he's real, cause as woody implies he had to break the rules to get sid back and that was obviously letting him know toys are alive, so it must be a programmed instinct cause it's a rule.

Nothing to say about this iconic masterpiece that hasn't already been said, but here's a PSA for you: Randy Newman is one of the most revered American musicial artists of the past 50 years. He's a 2 time Oscar winner and 7 time Grammy winner, who has one of the most underrated careers in music. For those who hear his name and simply say "he's the Toy Story guy," I encourage you to look into his catalogue and see that he's WAY more than this film ❤

"Hey, Buzz! You're flying!" "This isn't flying, this is falling with style!" "To infinity and beyond!" Fun Fact: This was the first animated film in Oscar history to be nominated for a Best Screenplay Academy Award - Adapted or Original. Method Animation Fact: The animation team perfected the movement of the toy soldiers by nailing a pair of sneakers to a sheet of wood and trying to walk around with them on. Stealth References Fact: The toolbox on top of the milk crate that Woody (Tom Hanks) is trapped in is a Binford, the same tool brand that Tim Allen used on his television show Home Improvement (1991). The carpet in Sid's (Erik von Detten) house has the same hexagonal pattern as the carpet in the Overlook Hotel from The Shining (1980). Animation Shortcuts Fact: Some 3D effects were too complex, or even impossible, to calculate at the time of this film; subtle tricks are used to avoid them. Examples: explosions, thus the viewer doesn't see Combat Carl's demise; hair dynamics, so Andy, Sid, and Molly all have short hair while Andy's mother's hair is always tied back in a simple-to-model pony tail; and flying water droplets, thus the viewer doesn't see any liquid when Woody dunks his burning head into a bowl of cereal.

There's a few theories about Andy's father. 1: his parents is divorced. 2: he's in the military and is always gone. 3: he had polio and died. Another small theory about Andy's father is that Woody was one of Andy's fathers toys and he gave it to Andy and thats why he loves it so much.

@jramz5176
@jramz5176 8 месяцев назад
because of how new computer animation was at the time, it was far easier to animate toys than humans. All of Andy's friends are andy lol, Sid also looks a lot like him. Just because of how new it was and budget constraints is why all the humans look so similar.
@user-sq5eg8vz6j
@user-sq5eg8vz6j 8 месяцев назад
It was a pain in the ass for the animators to create human models back then. So they had to reuse the same models for a lot of the humans instead of making new ones from scratch, and tried their best to show much of Andy’s mom and many of the adults. This is why early Pixar movies didn’t involve much humans until Incredibles.

About the time that Randy Newman's "I Love L.A." single was slowly rising up the Pop charts, He appeared in a TV segment about "his life and times." He wished he had Michael Jackson's money, since his music career wasn't going so great. Then "Toy Story" came along, and Randy Newman not only has "Michael Jackson money," but he's still alive and kicking, unlike "the king of Pop."

Both Toy Story 1 and 2 had development problems that almost caused the movies to not get made. For Toy Story 1, they'd recorded all the main dialog, and were presenting it to studio execs before moving forward to animating, and it got rejected. In the original version, Woody was a lot meaner. Instead of being resentful towards Buzz, he was straight up malicious and hateful. The studio executives hated it, and they had to rewrite the script and redo all the voice acting. Almost none of the original audio has ever been made public.
@1027srich
@1027srich 7 месяцев назад
And I'm sure NONE of us disagree with the studio executives putting their foot down about the change... That decision legit changed history in a GOOD way and it made the audience more relatable to Woody... Plus with the way the other toys started mistreating Woody while praising Buzz played a huge role in his resentment... I've been blessed to watch all 4 movies in theaters... Woody and Buzz (in my opinion) are top 5 all-time as far as greatest duos in cinema history, especially with the excellent chemistry between Tom Hanks and Tim Allen (both global icons) 😎

Good ol' Jim Varney. Toy Story 2 was 1 of 3 movies he was in before he died. Man I miss that man. Even though he died of lung cancer due to him being a smoker he never ever smoked in front of his fansor the camera because he didn't want to be a bad influence on his fans because they look up to him. I had a uncle that looked like Jim Varney and he was always goofing around and being silly like an Ernest character too. I remember in the early 90s while he was at Six Flags someone saw him and thought he was Jim Varney and was hollering out "hey look it's Ernest". R.I.P Uncle Joe

@@nsasupporter7557 yes I've seen that and all of his movies numerous times. Jim Varney played a duel role where he was Ernest and the criminal Nash. I grew up watching all Jim Varney's Ernest stuff in the late 80s and throughout the 90s. I remember his children's TV show Hey Vern it's Ernest. The shorts Hey Vern it's my family album and Your World as I see it. I even remember I remember in the early 90s going over to my uncle's house (oddly enough the one that looks and acts like Ernest) and he had a VHS called Ernest Greatest Hits vol.1 and vol.2 where it was a bunch of old commercials from I believe the 70s and early 80s where Jim Varney's character Ernest first appeared. The first actually movie role Ernest was in was the 1985 movie Dr. Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam where Jim Varney also plays the villain Dr Otto.

Thanks for posting this one, JL. This was my first "movie magic" moment that I remember. In fact, there's a nice story behind it. I live in Indiana, and we went to visit my aunt and uncle in Houston for Thanksgiving. This was 1995, so I was eight years old. My mom, aunt, younger brother, and I went to the big multiplex theater and saw Toy Story on the big screen! When Woody and Buzz flew at the end, my mouth was open, and I was awestruck. That was my first "wow" moment in the movies. Years later, my brother and I saw Toy Story 3; we were both in college at the time. Not that there's anything awkward between us (to my knowledge), but it's just that we have different hobbies and interests - it happens. This was one of the things we shared with each other. We had one of our best brother-to-brother conversations in the driveway of our childhood home afterwards. The Toy Story series has brought me some of my best family moments, so I'll always hold it close to my heart.

He did Monsters Inc not that long ago. It’s part of why he’s been interested in doing more animated movies.

Small Soldiers is the only other movie like this, with similar animation and toys coming to life. Not sure if it came out before Toy Story, but it's close.

Small Soldiers came out in 1998 from what I remember. Toy Story was 1995. Also the toys coming to life in Small Soldiers were only limited to whatever the military chips were installed into whereas Toy Story all of the toys are alive.

@@LunaticKD1991Dreamworks was always ripping off Pixar movies and making more “adult versions of them.” Small Soldiers was a rip off Toy Story, Antz was a rip off of Bug’s Life, Shark Tale was a rip off of Finding Nemo

Buzz would freeze when humans came around because he didn't want to give away himself as a space ranger. He was undercover. The other toys were more his "kind", whereas humans would appear to be definite aliens to him. You simply MUST do all the pixar films, as well as "Big Hero 6"...it has an actual theme about how we should be towards others, etc in it.

4:54 I think that gag is under-appreciated, even by me. I vaguely remember those writing pads as a little kid. When you pull that clear sheet up, it erases what you drew.

Great reaction as always. When this fiest came out, the premise and animation appealed to kids but there was so much more in it that appealed to adults as well. And that continues throughout the franchise. The amount of heart these movies have and the emitions they're able to generate is unbelievable. Really looking forward to seeing you react to more.

The great things about most Pixar movies is that they are kid friendly, but not just for kids. There are a lot of references that only adults would understand

So glad you loved it! My coworker and I joke that we are Woody (me) and Buzz (her). We dressed up as them for Halloween in the office this year and even filmed ourselves doing the scene where they meet ("There seems to be no sign of intelligent life anywhere"---"Hellooooo!")

Yep this was THE very first fully CG animated feature film. Changed the whole landscape of animation and it's kind of sad honestly. The hand-drawn style disappeared from Disney after Princess and the Frog (2008) and Winnie the Pooh (2011) didn't make enough box office.

This is SUCH a great movie. Tim Allan and Tom Hanks are such an unexpected but perfect comedic duo as Buzz & Woody. This was I believe the first ever piece of CGI media I ever saw, as I was born in early 1994 and my mother had this on VHS to play for me. As such, this movie, its cast, and the music are all such a part of me as an adult. Sid gets an honorary bowl cut cause you know that's what he prolly had before it was shaved.
