I agree with you Brian, I really was rooting for Woody to bring Bo back with him to Bonnie’s room to be reunited with the rest of the gang. Having said that I did love this movie, purely because I love Toy Story in general
That is true it feels a bit more like a kinda Woody spin off movie thype thing than a sequel. It’s still really good and I enjoyed it. Toy Story 3 had the perfect ending so I am still a bit upset that isn’t where it ended but it’s not enough for me to things Toy Story 4 is bad

No, I literally thought the same thing. Especially when I saw Buzz. Was very upset how they dumbed him down. That was upsetting. It was also sad that Bonnie loved Woody LITERALLY one min, and the next (1 movie later) she never picks him for playtime. It was very disheartening, especially since Andy didnt even want to give him to Bonnie, but did so with the condition that she should take extra good care of him. Very unfulfilling in that aspect.
Well at least he has the same favorite characters as me go on his toy story impressions video he said that Rex and Slinky dog are his Favorite and his Slinky Impression was Good
Oh, you're not missing anything. I completely agree. It was a good film, but... It really didn't need to exist. (SPOILER ALERT) The original characters we knew and loved from the first three films had barely any screen time, Bonnie just completely forgot about Woody even after she promised Andy in the last film that she would take care of him, Buzz got dumbed down for laughs even though he was shown to be very competent in previous films, and even though it has some heartwarming (and heartbreaking) moments that were nice to see... the franchise would have been just as fine without it.
Can you really count on a four year old to understand the level of an 18 year old’s sentimental value or be mature enough to keep a promise to said 18 year old?

Peachy Bubbles I feel like this just isn’t the Woody we know and love from the first 3 films. He would never have left a kid or the other toys to become a lost toy 😶😶
ThatGirlCalledMegan Well actually, this is the Woody that has grown up from the past films. He used to just care about being the best toy, and only sticking with Andy. But now, he has learned, by helping Forky stick with Bonnie, and now knows his goal is to help others find toys they can love, as Bonnie loves Forky. Woody would not have acted this way before Toy Story 4.
@@iMapleCreator Actually from all three films Woody was taught to be loyal to his kid and family no matter what. In Toy Story 3 he stays with Andy for years not being played with just to stay by his side. All of a sudden he leaves because Bonnie hasn't picked him up in a few days. That's out of character. Sure you can say he's happy now, but rewatching the original trilogy and how the narrative was built up to be about how a toy can't leave his kid because they're his, it's just broken. @@peachy_peach5684 To be fair, Woody had a better relationship with Andy than he did with Bonnie. Every kid is different, they're not the same so I wouldn't say he was doing the wrong thing to be honest.
I agree with this review. It wasn't a sequel that was needed. The 3rd one was the best ending they could've had. In fact, this movie cheapen Bonnie's character and made the ending to the 3rd one a bit bitter. Didn't Andy asked her to look out for his toys? The fact that a movie made me question the character development of a kid starting kindergarten is grounds for a lower score.
What changed his mind I think was the moment with Gabby Gabby and the Lost child, him realizing that he be a part of bringing that kind of happiness to so many more children and toys. If it wasn't for that I would say it came out of the blue. He had the opportunity to travel the country bringing happiness and closure like that... With his love for what it means to be there for a child, he couldn't pass that up. That's what made it feel like it rang true with his character to me.
Hi Brian! I think the ending could've been better if Boe Peep went with woody and the other toy characters to Bonnie. That way woody would've been more of his character yet he would be with the toy he loves. I think that would've been a better ending but don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this movie but I think Boe could've gone with woody. Besides I'm sure Bonnie would love Boe Peep. But I think your right, it was not as good as Toy Story 3. But it was good, great job Disney! 👍
that would be bad..bo peep shouldn't gone to bonnie since she never got any trouble/dilemma to begin with..she was alright being a freelance toy and never got any issue with it
I agree! I thought the movie was cute and enjoyed watching it, but I definitely would have preferred the Toy Story series to have ended with the third film. Imo, I felt like Toy Story 3 had a more fulfilling, well-rounded ending bc we knew that Andy would grow older and would have to decide what to do with his things. I don't think it was necessary to split up the toys.
I was crying by the end but, because I was upset with what they were doing with Woody. Originally, I wanted to see Andy pass down Woody and Buzz to his kids... 😔
In my opinion the ending should have not ended that way with woody I think woody and the new toys and bo peep should have went with Bonnie. Bonnie promised Andy that she would take care of them and talked about how loyal woody was.

3:43 You're not alone in this. Honestly, my first thought coming out of the theatre for this was "I really didn't need that ending..." Objectively it was a good movie and I did enjoy many things. But Toy Story 3 felt more earned and satisfying.

You’re the 1st person who agreed with me on that. For some reason I almost cried at her ending (which made me low key uncomfortable, idk why 😂), but I didn’t even shed a tear at Woody’s ending. I agreed with everything you said, and maybe it’s cause I’m biased too. Because I loved Toy Story 3 so much, but this sequel wasn’t necessary, in my opinion 🤷♀️
im literally not gonna lie: every single thing he said about it i agree with. so much. i was so upset over buzz and jessie and all the other characters not having larger roles and them seeming all out of character too but i did enjoy the movie alot

In my opinion, this is my second favorite toy story film! Toy story 2 is my favorite because I grew up watching it, but the reason the 4th is really good is because of its different elements and new questions about a lost toy. Woody’s choice symbolizes the fact that he’s done his job as a toy for an owner (being Bonnie and Andy). He made forky to make Bonnie happy, which is why he stays with Bo and the gang to continue with giving toys to new owners and making them happy. Regardless of anyone’s opinion, Toy Story 4 is a great film to infinity and beyond!
In the Toy Story shorts Bonnie brought Woody everywhere to her grandmas to her friend's house Bonnie love to Woody Toy Story 3 and a Toy Story shorts but in Toy Story 4 she doesn't care about it
No Brian I totally agree with you! I feel that the ending was so out of character - Woody would never have left the other toys OR his kid. Buzz is my all time favourite Pixar character and they ruined him this time round 😔

Don't worry, you're definitely not alone, Captain Midnight actually made a video with pretty much the same impressions. I completely agree with you on everyting, especially on your thoughts about Gaby Gaby. She was actually my favorite character, so much so that right after watching the movie and coming back home I couldn't stop thinking about how much I wanted to see her story from now on. And that got me thinking: "Maybe a way to continue this franchise would be expanding the Toy Story universe and looking at other toys' stories"... I don't know, just an idea...
I think it was neccessary because here is Woody's definitive ending after Bonnie stops playing with him. He discovered that he had to find a new purpose for living. Even though Bo Peep wasn't a toy she understood that there was a bigger world to explore beyond the constraints imposed by the owner. I'm certain that when Andy lost toys outside of yard sales and donations that it was for the same reason. It's about not being confined by anyone and going on adventures.
I totally agree with you Brian about Buzz’s plot in the movie. I was glad that they gave a semi background of Bo Peep of what happened to her after T3. T2 is my favorite movie out of the franchise.

Thank you for reviewing! I LOVED this film, I thought it was a perfect ending to the series! The new characters were perfect and I loved the message and the lessons and the sacrifice Woody makes. It was so beautiful, so touching, especially since you can see the years on the toys, they're not new, but old. Also you can see the relationship between children and their toys, I liked that.
It’s my second favorite! (TS2, TS4, and 1&3 are tied) But the thing I absolutely HATE is that Bonnie was infatuated with Woody when she first met him, but in Toy Story 4 it’s like ?? Nothing ?? Not even second guessing about whether to play with him or not ?? She just ignores him ! I liked the ending, honestly. I think it’s the weight of the world coming off of Woody’s shoulders, being able to be free. But I have to agree that it IS EXACTLY like a fanfic !! 😂😂😂
YES! I’ve been saying this since I saw it opening weekend. I’m so glad someone else has the same view point. Toy Story 3 had the perfect ending. So emotional and beautiful. You felt like the toys were going to be loved and adored for such a long time with Bonnie now. Now that we have this movie, however, I have read lots of people say they are mad at Bonnie for not keeping her promise to take care of Woody. It just taints the end of that movie now. I also at no point cried during this movie because all I could feel was annoyance and frustration. I felt like there were too many story plots going on at one time. Between the toys at the RV, Bo Peep and the forgotten toys, the carnival, and everything going on in the antique shop, I just wanted to yell at the screen “stay put” or “stop getting distracted.” It seems like they were always losing a toy or leaving one behind throughout the whole movie. It was just stressful. I’m glad we found out what happened with Bo Peep, but I feel like we could have found that out in a Pixar short or a television special. This movie wasn’t needed and felt like a money grab more than anything.
Dude, I could NOT stop crying at the end. The reason I cried is because I grew up loving this franchise and Woody and Buzz’s friendship and to see them part like that wasn’t cool to me. I have to agree with Brian MAJORLY!!! 😭
You're definitely not alone.. I agree 110%. It was a really good movie just not as a sequel. And I'm a little bothered that they put Bonnie on Woody and Buzzes shoes.. Like I know they are Bonnie's toys now but like that's Toy Story! I mean that's really what makes Toy Story, Toy Story is the ANDY on their shoes!
I agree with you, Woody is a perfect example of what loyalty means, Woody experienced this in Toy story 2 which is one my favorites, Woody almost wanted to go to tokyo. But he wanted to see Andy grow up, and I think he would want the same for bonny

As emotional as I got at the ending, I too was a little bit......confused by the ending. It’s kinda because after all the villains we’ve had in the first and second one, the ending of the third one had Woody proving them wrong. They’ve turned on humans after they were lost or forgotten about. Woody and the gang showed the true purpose of being a toy and just because one child forgets doesn’t mean another one won’t see their worth. It’s kinda poetic
Well said review. Another reason I feel like they gave that ending, was because they wanted to subvert peoples expectations. Everyone probably expected Woody to go back with Bonnie, and maybe even the classic Ending where bow peep decides to join them and become a toy again. - many people probably were not expecting this particular ending, so maybe they wanted to do something different as a twist. Movies nowadays need to find unexpected endings or people might get bored with them maybe
I would have loved for this to end full circle with Andy and his kids finding Woody at the carnival and then looking at his and Bonnie's name on the boot and having that nostalgia
You're not alone, Brian. Good film, but they should have ended after the third. I also felt like Buzz and Woody were out of character. Buzz's inner voice thing drove me crazy. I watched Toy Story 2 last night and Woody said they'll be together for infinity and beyond and I was very upset knowing that's not true. Not only that, but the whole point of Toy Story 2 was that the point of a toy is to be loved by an owner, which Woody stands up for. As honorable as it is that he's helping toys find homes, the way he did it also felt cheap. I don't think I ever kept a toy I won at a carnival (sorry, toys!), which makes it feel like his efforts aren't doing any good (not to mention we didn't get an emotional backstory from our two carnival toys who decide not to get owners for some reason) and it's not as emotionally impactful as trying to find owners for toys like Gabby Gabby. I could really go on about how much I disliked this movie, even though I agree it's a good film. Their goodbye was so rushed and didn't do their friendship justice. I can see them splitting off for some time, but not forever, but forever was implied. Whhhhhhy.
You're not alone. I had the same reaction. This was an enjoyable film and had many good moments but it didn't feel necessary nor was it a better ending than Toy Story 3. It felt like a Disney-mandated sequel that Pixar did their best to make entertaining. They succeeded but with slightly mixed results (at least for me). I did like that we got closure on Bo Peep though.

I genuinely enjoyed it, but I think it took away the purpose of the third movie. Forky was amazing, Bo was amazing, but Bonnie was careless with her toys. The toy that Andy had like FOREVER, but he gave him up so that Bonnie can have the same experience he had. But what did she do? She forgot about him and pretty much replaced him. Like it literally destroyed what the third one was about.

Absolutely agree with you, Brian!!! It seemed so out of character for Woody to just leave his family behind for a new adventure with Bo. I thought he already moved on that Bo's gone and that he's going to take care of Bonnie this time until, maybe, Andy's child needs him and it's a forever beautiful sad cycle. I was mad at Bonnie for the majority actually, which is dumb since she's a child, but she had promised Andy that she would take care of his cowboy... What happened? Kinda wish Woody joined Andy if he was just going to be abandoned by his child again. At least Andy seemed like he didn't want to part and had never not played with him as a child. The disappointment I'm feeling is kinda similar to what I've felt with Captain America's ending in Endgame. Both moved on and have a new life but last movie screwed them over by making it as if they have never moved on and chose to leave their new family and responsibilities for their old fling...it destroyed their character just to have this romance drama that we have all moved on from...except the writers apparently. Oh well.

Dude, you just described how I felt and all my friends that went to the cinema with me. Also I wasn't happy that they almost never showed the other toys such as the aliens. Either way, how I felt at he end of this movie vs the 3 was veeeerrryyy different. I was just confused for how they worked with the characters.
I agree with you so much! I couldn’t agree more, to me there seemed to be no toy story magic for example: in Toy Story, a great friendship was born even though it didn’t work out in the beginning, and Buzz flying (falling with style) at the end always gives me chills. Toy Story 2, Jessie and Bullseye were discovered and there was a lot of happy moments and they came with Woody and finally found a home. Toy Story 3, had great new characters some sad moments but with happy kind of tears when Andy gave his toys away to Bonnie, and had to move on. Toy Story 4.... Where’s the magic and heart to the movie the only thing truly great about it is that Bo finally came back, even though her voice doesn’t even sound the same, and the animation was great, but nothing else really, there were no Woody and Buzz moments, or Buzz and Jessie moments, mainly just Woody and Bo moments even though they weren’t great moments, (and Forky). Woody should have brought Bo back to the gang where they could all reunite and stuff, and maybe Woody would get played with some more?

I think that we kind of needed this film because none of us know what happened to Bo Peep. Plus, Buzz and the other main characters didn't get that much of the spotlight because the new characters, Ducky and Bunny, Duke Caboom, and Giggle McDimples need THEIR spotlight. Idk, this is my opinion...
I completely agree with you Brian. I feel that for those of us who grew up in the ‘90’s and early 00’s Toy Story 3 was the perfect ending. It ended Andy’s story with the toys and that’s what we all grew up on. I think toy story 4 shows us a good example of how kids today are quick to get a toy and move on to something bigger and better, but I think when the 3rd movie ended it gave us a sad but happy ending to our greatest childhood memories. Toy story 4 just left all of us 90’s and early 00’s kids heartbroken
