Basically the whole movie was a character deconstruction, and thats why its great. They took Woody apart piece by piece, exposing all his flaws and strengths and internal dillemas at the same time. His loyalty, the core of his charcater, was truly a double edged sword, the one thing causing him the most unhappiness also being the one thing that allowed Bo to fall back in love with him.

the theme, that i really love the most, is the theme of leaving toxic or unfulfilling relationships and taking on life expectations sent on you by your friends and family. Woody didn’t leave Buzz and the others, he left Bonnie because they mutually grew out of needing each other. LIFE LESSONS FROM A PIXAR MOVIE ONCE AGAIN😭
Had no intention to really see a Toy Story 4 but seeing your review I had to see it. It became my second favorite Toy Story after the first one. Fantastic film

woody had a moment where he blurted out that helping forky get back to bonnie was all he had left to do. that's when i started getting all up in my feels; a toy is seriously looking for its real purpose?
I would have loved to see that many years later Woody, his horse is in an Antique shop and Andy comes in and sees him. Then takes him home for his son.

When Gabby Gabby says "Will You be my Friend?" and the lost girl says "I'll be your Friend." while crying and still lost, that shit made 2 tears come out of my eyes. If it was reverse, it wouldn't have been as effective (If the girl asked the doll to be her friend)... a Lost Girl protecting a Lost Toy was EXTRA heartwrenching for some reason. Also when Buzz says "She's going to be ok... WOODY!... Bonnie is gonna be ok". Telling Woody it's ok to live his own life now. The rest of the toys will take care of Bonnie. Woody did his job, and it's time for him to live the Life he chooses. Also I love that Amusement Park. I was getting the best Summer Nostalgia from that. I felt warm inside the entire film. The Town felt so lived-in with dirty canopies. Seeing the ferris wheel over the tree-line from difference perspectives made the Town feel alive.
Buzz needed a more emotional story arc that didn't belay his character traits from prior movies. I don't think Toy Story 4 was perfect, but I loved it so freakin' much.
Toy Story 5: Woody and Bo's adventures. Toy Story 6: Final Conclusion of Buzz and the rest of the toys. Perhaps Woody and Bo reunite with them all, and Andy buys them all up at Bonnie's yard sale (right before she goes to college) and then Andy gives them all to his newborn kid?
The rankings of these movies will always be across the board. But all 4 of them are so close in quality that the rankings really don't matter. You can sit down and watch all 4 in succession and truly enjoy how amazing the Toy Story narrative is with no issue. Tbh the entire series collectively is a Better Than Sex for me personally.
5:09 Maaaan, I thought the same thing! Lmao After coming out of the theater, I made a comment to my friends about it; how Woody was Cap and Buzz was Iron-Man. Seeing these two split hurt just as much as that of Endgame. Both made me invested and teary-eyed. Edit: Another thing that I forgot to mention is how similar his ending was to Cap’s. Both were very loyal to their friends, serving other people (Woody to the kids, Cap to humanity), until they finally learned to be selfish and move on with their ladies.
Without any spoilers-- I have to say, I loved it. I cried at the opening sequence and at the ending. It made sense for Bo's character to change as it did; I took it as her not wanting to dwell on things that hurt her; she is looking for a *reliable* purpose/meaning to life. Woody brought out her soft, nostalgic side; their chemistry is still amazing. It's obvious with all the in-jokes and body language/looks exchanged that they're more than just friends-- so I'm satisfied. (She even turns her cape back into a skirt for a satisfying twirling hug at one point.) The movie as a whole--- definitely recommend. The best one? I don't know, but I felt it was worth being made and excellently executed. Maybe I'm biased because Bo Peep was always my favorite Pixar character (screw the people who thought she was flat or boring originally) and she's such a large part of this movie. I'm happy. Also, not really a spoiler-- Bo and Woody have kissed in previous movies. They did not in this one. BUT. I was thinking about it and they hadn't seen each other in 9 years so maybe she feels a little weird kissing him right after reuniting, so I ain't mad. Totally understand that. Their chemistry was still 👌 I liked *several* other elements to this movie but I'm a sappy, girly girl so I am just gonna comment on that.
the best thing about this movie was bo. I really loved how they changed her up from the 90s to 2019. Take note Hollywood this is how you make a strong female character. bo is exactly how you make a strong female character without beating us over the head with it. she's a strong female character because she actually has a reason to be not because she says so.
@@Anthonycheesman33 sorry but you're wrong. In the movies that get hate the lead female characters in them "say" that they are strong instead of actually showing it. Not to mention that they position themselves as being better than men and that didn't happen in this movie.
@@Anthonycheesman33 I think maybe you misunderstood me here. I want the female characters to be strong. But a lot of movies now want you to think that a female character is strong just because she says so with no proof of the woman actually being stronger. It's actually a disservice and it isn't honest. All characters, and even deeper, all people should truly be equal. But in some of these movies they say the women are strong and they treat the men like crap to bring the women up. Are you telling me that you can't see that? A couple of examples where they had some awesomely powerful women that were kick-ass, Ripley from Alien, and Sarah Connor from The Terminator.
I agree Buzz at this point in time should know what a conscience is it's like he reverted back to Buzz from the first film who didn't know anything about the real world.
Comparing Buzz in TS4 to TS2, it's like his IQ dropped at least 50 points. The send-off interaction between Woody and Buzz at the end of TS4 was well-done, but it would have been nice if Buzz had consistently retained that type of emotional intelligence throughout the whole film. The first time they do that inner voice gag was straight up awkward, and then they kept doing it nearly every time Buzz was on screen. Annoying and out of place.
I like your discussion about powerful female characters simply being powerful characters. Alien and Ripley is a perfect example, since the parts were written without specific genders in mind

I had no expectations and truthfully didn’t wanna see it. Glad I did cuz it was really good I love the toy concept and how some of these toys are old and nobody want em. I jus wish Woody wasn’t so noble. So many times they could’ve got out but he wanted to help.
When I first saw this one, I thought to myself "It was funny and a bit emotional, but they skipped out the other Toys, made Buzz stupid and made Bonny worse. I don't quite know what to think, I think I should see it again." Now that I've seen it again? Well, i was a bit more emotional than I remember, especially the ending-that originally didn't get me so much-but overall my opinion is pretty much the same except that I know decide it's a 7/10, maybe a 7.5 if I'm being generous. Compared with the rest of the series: 1-8/10 2-9/10 3-10/10 So overall, the movie was pretty good but the weakest of the series. Also, Bonnie should have had a reason for (basically) neglecting Woody.
Let's just say that us older generation of kids are "Andy" while the new generation of kids are "Bonnie" I kind of felt the disrespect from Bonnie doing Woody the way she did lol.
Correct, you have skewed view point....but it's not disrespect. Bonnie has same attachment to Woody as she does to Rex. Since you have a greater "care/investment" for Woody character then you see her treatment as disrespectful.
I thought Toy Story 4 was alright, but not as good as the other ones. Firstly, I couldn't help but be annoyed by Woody's character. That Dolly was right when she said "Bonnie's not Andy!". Like Woody is just so obsessed and it gets annoying. I also didn't like the way the other toys weren't included as much. Why weren't Slinky, Rex, The potato-heads in it as much? And Buzz Lightyear, he was always my favourite character in the series. This is just my opinion of it.

if you really think about gabby it goes deeper than a kids love, she didn't have a voice, and went so far to get it, to manipulate a man (woody to get it).. i mean im just saying but these movies are alot deeper than people think. and there is so many meanings and so many different ones.. i would love to know what others think on different scenes.. and don't say its for kids. in college, they don't treat it as a "kids movie" these movies are to analyze what they're trying to say.
I don't think the talking function is so important anyway. The first movie established that toys can talk with humans if they want too, so they can also pretend their inbuild talking mechanics still work even if broken.
The only other quadrilogy I can think of that even comes close to having the consistent acclaim that Toy Story has is Mad Max. And even then, it’s not THAT close or consistent. Lol

@Doubletoasted. That scrapped concept of toy story 3 wasn’t supposed to be made by Pixar. Before Disney bought Pixar, Disney opened a new animation studio called circle 7 and they worked on that version of toy story 3, finding Nemo 2 and a scrapped sequel to monsters inc.

I thought it was a flawed but still quite enjoyable movie. Better than The Incredibles 2 and Finding Dory, but just not on par with movies made during the golden age of Pixar.
Horrible ending which undercuts the message of the entire trilogy. Toy Story 3: Just because meaningful relationships will one day come to an end, doesn't mean you never engage in anything meaningful again. Toy Story 4: Why engage in anything meaningful because one day it will end? Indulge in self-interest instead.

BUT ENDGAME DIDNT GET BETTER THAN SEX?! Nah, just kidding. I wouldn’t say this was a better than sex movie, but it’s definitely a full price. More of a low full price, near the edge of a matinee for me personally because of my different taste nowadays, but this is a quality-ass film.

Woody leaving didn’t ruin his character, he grew. The whole point of the movie is for Woody to move on from Andy. And no, Bonnie’s not “the real villain” because she stopped playing with him. She’s a kid, and she may not have the same kind of attachment with Woody as much as Andy did. She has her own interests and grows a closer attachment to other toys. It’s normal child behavior. Tell me, what toys did you have growing up that eventually you started playing with others more that you forgot about and moved on to something else? And wouldn’t it make sense for Woody to live a new life helping other toys since he’s done so in the previous movies? He’s fulfilled his purpose with Andy, he has to find something else to fulfill. I'm pretty sure that the Godzilla movies build up the monsters as characters in of themselves. edit: don't insinuate that the godzilla movie pissed on the history of what it has done. cause it sure as fuck didn't. and the Godzilla movie never had the intention to be character driven. it was always about the monsters.

It was just because 3 was so good and it felt like a final story and final goodbye to these characters so that moment just can’t be recreated again and have the same effect.
