It's great to see that from the early designs of Lunar Larry onwards, the character to become progressively more humble, going from a flamboyant space super-hero to a confident space cop.

7:34 This version of Buzz looks similar to his final design in the movie, but with minor details, such as his earphones and the part of his ankle are white instead of purple or green, one of the buttons that activate his voicebox is yellow instead of green, and there is a red triangle below his laser.

Buzz Lightyear is, along with Woody, Mr. Incredible, McQueen, Luca and Alberto, one of my favorite characters in all of Pixar. And I look forward to his solo movie!!! I hope it's very good, and even if it doesn't end up being, I welcome it with open arms :D

@Brandon Brooks All of these Toy Story characters started out hand drawn in 2D on multiple pieces of paper and then the artists give them to the team that uses them as a reference to make the 3D versions of them on the computers.

The name Buzz Lightyear as seen in the drawings that the late Bud Luckey and Bob Pauley made came about in reality from Buzz Aldrin who’s the second man on the moon. In the testing process of character creation, the filmmakers started with the name Lunar Larry. They also tried out Tempus from Morph. A few years later, Buzz Lightyear was born.

I think that's where they modeled him after Pete Doctor(Who animated Buzz and voiced him in scratch voices in the storyreels. Though does it look like he would've been voiced by Jeff Bennett?
