Merry Christmas everyone, thanks for your support!!
The owner of this 2007 Toyota Avensis came in saying that there was a loud bang noise from the right front area. Rob checked it out & found a front spring broken. This is how he fixed it...

Nice hydraulic spring compressor, use the safety clamps because dad nearly lost his leg with that one, rather have my threaded model, it holds good.

How did you remove the original "pump", did you just rip it out?

Rob, I've used copper slip/grease on my wheel nuts/bolts for the last 35 years or so, on various cars that I've owned, and never had an issue with them working loose in all that time?. My understanding is that its ok to use it on the threads - but not on the shoulder of the bolt/nut. Your vids are great and I hope to see many more in 2017. All the best!

Tiger moth In some cases this is ok.. Each manufacturer and vehicle type and wheel spec can differ. Toyota in this instance stipulate do not lubricate the thread or the stud. So always best to check the manufacturers recommendations. Merry Christmas 🎄

Well done Rob . I've seen so many vids where they lather on the anti seize compound on the wheel studs , not sure why I'm kinda thinking so the wheels fall off better. LOL. Merry Christmas

STEVE ROB Yes mate, there is a time and a place for the old anti seize and this wasn't that time or that place lol. Merry Christmas 🎄

Merry Christmas! I was thinking that car was too new to break a spring but I guess it's almost 10 years old. Great work

Merry Christmas Rob! Don't think we have this model Toyota here in Canada... the front & rear look completely non-Toyota to me. To be honest, I get a VW Passat or Dodge Magnum vibe off of it! =)

Thomas EXOVCDS Hope you had a good one Thomas. We have had the Avensis in many forms for quite a few years. This one would compare to a Passat size for sure. Straight forward to work on.

Hi Rob and hope you're doing well. I just got rebuilding the rear suspension on a Toyota RAV4 which had a broken spring, shock missing, lower shock mount brackets rusted out along with other stuff. Seems like Toyota has an issue with the coil springs snapping into. You did a great job on replacing the broken spring and that was a nice setup you've got of compressing the spring. I've used the spring compressor that you showed earlier, but I am very wary of using that thing :) Take care Rob and again as mentioned earlier, be sure that you and your family have a SUPER GREAT NEW YEAR!!!!
@OneAuto
@OneAuto 7 лет назад
Thanks Terry. Sounds like your RAV4 was in a poor way! Over here it's not just Toyota's that have coil spring issues. Just about every manufacturer suffer. We blame the salt on the winter roads and our town centres are full of speed bumps to slow the traffic down. That mixture keeps us busy changing out springs. I probably change 2-3 sets per week on average.. it's ridiculous...But good for business ;) Happy new year Terry!!

This is the third video I've watched on your channel and it's just in time as I will be doing this job on my Dodge Magnum soon. In my case I think I'll have to change the whole assembly but I think I can handle it. Thanks for the tips along the way. Have a Happy New Year!
@OneAuto
@OneAuto 7 лет назад
wyattoneable Great I hope it's of use to you. Thomas EXOVCDS said the Avensis reminded him of the Magnum. I love it when a customers budget can cater for changing the whole leg assembly. It seems a more satisfying job if you know what I mean.

Hi Rob Thanks for the video.You said that you remove the axle nut to prevent the possibility of pulling the driveshaft. Do you mean the driveshaft coming out of the gearbox, or the inner cv joint coming out of the cup its in, or the outer cv joint separating from the driveshaft?
@OneAuto
@OneAuto 7 лет назад
Its just what I do so the driveshaft doesn't come out the gearbox or the inner cv. It just saves the hassle for the sake of undoing the nut.

Great job. One minor point as owner of a later 2009 Mk3 T27 Avensis. The model you worked on is a T25 Mk2, which finished production in 2008. Everything you did will still applies, so it is still relevant.

hey man jus wanted to say me n my dad got the job done today . we used spring compressors which took a bit longer. but we didnt have to take the axle bolt off there was enough wiggle room to get the shock out jus fine. when i got to my dads he said hed watched your video aswell us to see how hard the job is. so we both had a pretty good idea. thanks again have a great christmas

Have you got a video on where's the best place to have the coil spring compressor clamps on the spring. I think my coil spring have snapped on my 2008 yaris but I'm not sure how to get the nut off under the bonnet.
@OneAuto
@OneAuto 6 лет назад
No I don’t. If you ain’t sure.. don’t attempt it. Those springs are dangerous.

One Auto, Would you have a rough idea how much it should cost me at a garage
@OneAuto
@OneAuto 6 лет назад
£120 to £150? Best way is to make a few enquiries
@hardworker8030
@hardworker8030 6 лет назад
I phoned one garage and they wanted £150 fitted then £25 for tracking. I phoned 3 motor factors for a price on a coil spring and one wanted £47 for a roc brand then the other 2 did kilen springs and they was between £50/£55.
