Toyota 2.4 L engine 2002-2008, various models. Stripped Head Bolts will cause coolant loss/gases escape via boiling reservoir. Will show up as overheating. You need the engine head to be removed and drilled. $$ Big job $$. If you don't have $$$ right now, remove the thermostat to reduce Temperatures. You will get a CEL on your Dash. Peace.

I had this issue after replacing the coolant. I have replaced both sending units on the water neck, and the sensor under the radiator. I bled the coolant system through the radiator cap, connected to a funnel. Both fans wouldn't kick on, unless the AC was on. There were no visible leaks in the hoses. Although the scariest leak I had in the '97 camry was from the top plastic of the radiator. The problem was, the electrical for the car was very bad, and the battery was failing, causing the misreading on the dash, as if the car was near overheating. When I replaced the car battery, then the two fans were functional again, and the meter for the coolant went back to the middle. All of that bleeding the coolant system for nothing, lol.

Hey RB, it's a rarity sometimes to see mechanics help with troubleshooting. I appreciate anything input my 2003 Camry ran warm from time to time and I put my computer on and it said something about the temperature sending unit and I never really did anything about it. Anyways I was playing my guitar amp through the inverter and the 12 volt feed for my battery for about an hour and then notice of the steam coming up a little bit so decided to leave unfortunately I stop by McDonald's for my iced tea and my Dr pepper fix but the line took like 20 minutes long story short I didn't make it home. After I cool down I noticed the cap on my overflow supply container was melted it was melted and would not let fluid in or out anyways some solid stuff came out of that thing and blew all over that side of the motor compartment I don't know how to describe it it was fluid like a real thick kind of like a jelly but it was kind of gritty. I replace the thermostat the radiator cap that got blown out there's a tiny hole in the top of my radiator right underneath where the radio cap is I'm not sure if that was some kind of a filter or if it was solid plastic with just designed grooves it in it but 1/4 of it blew out I'm wondering if I can reseal that hole that's left over with what kind of putty would be possible or glue to seal that thing. Anyways when I try to start my car it hasn't started since then sounds like I have no compression there's no popping I got a new spark plugs still the same when I turn it over it sounds like there is a grit in between the Pistons and the walls I don't know but it's not starting up. Could it be blown and if it is could I change that gasket and head gasket with the engine still in the car? I mean how difficult is it. I appreciate it if you read this hole comment and I appreciate it even more if I could have something constructive to build off from your reply. Thanks buddy sincerely JB

Ok there’s lot going on here I’m not sure what the stuff that came out but either head gasket cause oil mixture or the cooler for transmission inside the radiator leaked however it could be dirty system so u need to clean it out very well and replace thermostat see if ur fans work

My 05 Camry was overheating yesterday while driving. AC was not on. I pulled over and let it cool, then turned my heat on full blast (no hot air was coming out though) and managed to get home. @@vetare6243 I sold the car, and the next day, it went. The buyer called me. I had none of the typical signs it was going, or I wouldn't have sold it. I see a lots of people that trouble shoot a bunch of thins but there is one thing that no one mentions, there is a hose that come in the back of the dash to warm up the heater elements, some time he get clogged, that needs to be checked if there is free water flow, that maybe the cause of some of the problems

Thanks. I think there is another thing to consider, which is air in the fluid circuit. This can happen when a thermostat is replaced and it can be another related part.

Hi my 95 camry overheated on me while doing some low speed driving in a parking lot with the AC on(had previously been driving for about 10-15mins. Im not mechanically inclined, I pulled over shut off the car and waited like five minutes to open the radiator carfully. I heard some pressure sound upon opening it and let it sit for a few more mins. I got it off and topped off my coolant and closed it. I started up the car with heaters going full blast and it stayed in the middle the whole way home (5-8mins) when i was in my parking spot I put on the ac again to see if it would overheat but it stayed in the middle. Someone on the internet told me to check if the radiator fans spin well they were only spinning when I had the AC on. Did not see any fan going when I had no ac or heater on.
