Toyota one company that is truly not lazy and rivals it's competitor's. When the japanese set out to solve a problems there is not stopping them. Much respect to the Japanese and its people.
Hydrogen engines sound very positive for the environment. Yes, batteries are good, but they are not perfect because we have to mine for the raw materials, which ultimately causes significant environmental degradation...
The future is EVs for many obvious reasons! I would direct my innovations into self-charging EVs. For example, the possibility to use the body of the car as solar system to charge the battery of the vehicle in addition to the normal way of charging! Just a thought!
I would certainly be interested in the THS2 Engine, whether gas or hydrogen. This is great forward thinking. I only wish the rest of the industry would pull their heads out of their posterior and understand the buyer's needs and likes, which translate to profit.
Currently electrolysis is 75% efficient. It would not generate enough energy to keep the battery charged much lees move the car. The engineers at Toyota obviously know this. Nice try.
One big drawback for hydrogen powers the fact that it requires five's times the storage volume for the same range. In other words, if you have the same size fuel tank, you will 1/5 of the distance, so instead of being able to go 500 miles on a full tank, your range will be 100.
Brilliant presentation, and by far the most technical and realistic in respect of hydrogen utilization for drive trains. I trained as a 'motor mechanic' over 60 years ago and always envisioned hydrogen as a fuel source, of course, I was considered an eccentric dreamer and laughed at by my 'Petro head' colleagues. If any still survive, I'll bet they're not laughing now. Now back to the present era, and for numerous years, I have sown the seeds of hydrogen-electric fuel-cell hybrids being the most idealistic formula for the future, namely hydrogen being the fuel source while feeding the fuel cells and thereafter the electric motor drive train. Once again, like in the past, I was laughed at, but I knew I'd be right one day. Once again, they won't be laughing for much longer, thanks to Toyota's belief in and dedication to hydrogen technologies. I commend Toyota for making my visions a reality, and I truly hope to live long enough to drive one of their amazing hydrogen cars. Toyota undoubtedly sets standards by which all other car manufacturers and similar companies should judge their own enterprises.👍👍 John(UK)
I believe that Energy Conversion Devices in Troy, Michigan was working on these concepts decades ago. They also developed the nickel metal hydride battery.
I own 3 great used cars. 2 are Toyota's and one Honda. What makes them great is there are hundreds of things less to go wrong than on the newer cars. And yes 2 of them needed work done with some parts replaced with new, and that was 10 years ago. All 3 have never been plagued with electrical problems or towed from being broke down on the side of the road. The price of all 3 including the new parts and repairs was by far less than the cheapest new car 10 years ago as well, and still run great today. I posted this for people who no longer can just go out and buy a new car today without taking a big hit that could never be paid off anyway with sky high prices on food, rent and everything else.
Toyota company Will not only make the environment cleaner but it also reduce crude oil product in use currently as well balancing this countries exports and economics to neutral mode.
Toyota needs to focus on technology to make cheap hydrogen. At an average price of $30/kg in the US, it goes nowhere. For its internal combustion H2 engine, that's like paying $28/gal for gasoline. They are building the classic cart before the horse. They need to get the retail price down to $5/kg at the pump instead of waiting for someone else to do it. That's the #1 reason people don't buy the Mirai in CA.
I accept new concept from toyoto is very good and crucial technology. Nature friendly better than EV thanks for the information and new way of thinking high.
Toyota will be successful with any thing the make Toyota has been top in all around the world 🌎 nothing is made to compete Toyota and nothing will be make to compete Toyota Quility Toyota is the best in the whole world cars market love Toyota from Australia 🇦🇺
Hydrogen is very expensive to produce therefore more than Gas. Electricity or some other energy is used produce Hydrogen. By the time they catch up, it's game over. VHS vs Beta. Beta was technically better than however VHS won!
We have now experience electric car in comparison to engine car. Pollution is reduced. Risk of fire increased. Control of car minimise. Assembly of parts are Lego-like allowing easy and variations. However requires hugh consumptions of electricity. Conventional car lack the free style configuration. Pollution high. Better human control over machinery. Requires diesel and petrol which are gradually hard to obtain. Prices, new invention electric car demands high price, not because of production cost but higher price reflects new technology. Overall electric car is now the “in thing” for this centuries with more benefits to mankind especially pollution.
Hyro might be the next after ev. But you have to work out the safety of hydro engine or otherwise go home to nanny your grandkids. Japan has been working on the hydro engine for years and years but have not been able to pull out their engine. So with Japanese companies maybe will take another twenty years
