Check out our new (and first!) spot for the Toyota Corrolla. #blessed to work with such a great client and script, not to mention a wonderful cast and crew. Lets make history, team!
probobly because of the intense focus effect on the characters and the backround, and the lighting is quite un natural, and the makeup makes their skin extremely smooth
Young Man: "Good mornin'! Would you like some coffee?" CEO: "What're you just standing around handing out coffee to strangers at 6 AM?" Young Man: "I always have a cup for... whoever gets here first" CEO: "You got here first." Young Man: "Yes... but I don't work here yet." CEO: "Then... Why do you keep coming back?" Young Man: "When I was in the service, my Dad, he sent me this book, and it was written by the guy who started this company. And everywhere in that book, I mean, I wanted to be THAT GUY. And it was written by the guy who started this company. And everywhere in that book, I mean..." CEO: "You know, I wrote that book" Young Man: "I wanted to be THAT GUY." CEO: "You know I-" Young Man: "I thought the best way to learn would be to have a cup for whoever got here first." CEO: "You got here first" Young Man: "Yes... I know that" CEO: "Y'know I used to have a Corolla" Young Man: "I wanted to be THAT BOOK. My Dad-" CEO: "-wrote that book" Young Man: "Your... picture is on the dusk jacket" CEO: "Y'know I used to have a Corolla" Young Man: "Yes... I know that" CEO: "(I genuinely don't know what he said here)" Young Man: "Yes... it's in the book" CEO: "What're you just standing around handing out coffee to strangers at 6 AM?" Young Man: "I'll always be... THAT GUY" CEO: "You got here first" Young Man: "Yes, but... my dad, sent me this book" CEO: "Y'know I used to have a Corolla" Young Man: "I know that" The Toyota Corolla is just a car to get you from A to B. when A is the EO, and B is the CB. When A is an intern
Haha!! This is amazing. For those that don't know, this is a re-edited version of a very strange Toyota commercial from Saatchi & Saatchi that aired in 2012. The social interaction in the original commercial was just as awkward
I actually am That Guy. Thanks for the recut of the original. Earlier drafts of the commercial's script were more fluid and coherent. A crafty modern day Beckett spin of a spot that's going nowhere....

I have seen the new commercial by the one who wanted to be THAT GUY but he didn't get here first. Toyota Camry - The Look will always be in the shadow of THAT BOOK. If you are not willing to hand out cups of coffee to strangers at 6AM in the morning then you will never be THAT GUY. As for myself watching this ad, all I can think about is becoming THAT BOOK. If I ever had to join the service, I would want to get a book from my dad showing me how to get THAT BOOK. Unfortunately, YOU got here first, I was just handing out cups of coffee to strangers at 6AM in the morning. For me to become THAT GUY, it's going to take a lot more than just becoming THAT BOOK. Travelling from points B to E from A to C will get me there at 6AM so I can become THAT BOOK in 6AM in the morning, which will allow me to hand out cups of coffee to strangers at 6AM in the morning. Then and ONLY then, will I have finally become THAT GUY.
I have memorized the entire script off by heart and regularly corolla-post to my friends. While they have no idea what I am talking about, in time they will be also become THAT GUY.
And I just realized the purpose of this advertisement. It's doing exactly what they want it to do. It would have otherwise been a boring commercial, until they put in the weird edits, so that it would get people to spread the video to others, therefore maximizing exposure. Brilliant marketing.
Are these cgi actors? What the fuck is up with american television and the obsession with touching up footage so much it reaches the bottom of the uncanny valley?
