In this video, we dive into the inspection process for a Toyota truck frame, showing you what signs of rust and corrosion to watch for, and how to spot poorly executed rust-proofing attempts. Some methods may seem like a good idea but can actually trap moisture, leading to even worse rust issues. We'll show you what to avoid and how to inspect for bad rust-proofing techniques, such as improperly applied coatings or treatments that don’t penetrate the layers of metal.
At Rustless Rides, our high-viscosity oil undercoating flows into every seam and layer, offering real, lasting protection. Learn how to inspect your frame and why our oil-based solution is the best way to prevent rust from damaging your vehicle.

Darn good video. My brothers 1985 4wd from the cab on back the frame has been completely replaced. He got a wonderful Plasma cutter and its so much fun to cut with. It has a little dump bed on it now and a wonderful paint job.

What is the idea behind the blocking of drain holes?
@rustlessrides
@rustlessrides 3 дня назад
That is a great question. I have asked this since they started doing this. I am assuming that since this hole is so large, they may have been trying to keep out rodents/ mice. I remove these from all the trucks I spray. Since our undercoating now includes mouse/ rodent repellent, it is more important to make sure any moisture/ condensate can easily and quickly drain out.

1:43 No man has to put up with “normal rust“ on his frame and underbody components. Use a spray technology called “rust conversion coating“. It converts surface rust to a hard, shiny black paintable surface. It’s been around since the 1970s. If if you do this periodically in spots here and there, you’ll never have surface rust. If you want, you can paint over it with Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black epoxy spray.

There are several products like this for sale. Most fall short for those who drive their vehicles daily. These products are great if you are building a Show Car or Restoring a Vehicle to drive every now and then. They are in no way the best option for those who drive their vehicles daily. Most of these products convert to Iron Oxide, which is very Brittle and will chip and flake easily. This causes bigger issues when you encapsulate it in Paint. Check out my video of Rust Rings. This shows you exactly what I mean.

I went to look at a 2006 Tundra with 116k miles and the dealer told me that he sent it out to fix the frame on it. I was a bit confused because in the pictures the body almost looked like it just rolled off the assembly line, but it must have had blocked drains as well.

It hard to say. I’ve seen them completely failed and rotted out. I’ve seen some silicone the stiffeners, and a few others some has tried. The frames can be a big concern but if you use the right products the rust can be prevented.

@@rustlessrides Not quite sure what exactly happened to it, unfortunately. Seen a 2002 Tundra with a decent amount of frame left so it was quite strange to hear that.

@@aku2dimensional Thankfully if you protect them before all of this starts then this is a non issue. But you have to use the correct type of products that will creep and flow between the layers of metal. NHOU is a great product for this. This product is all we use when we udercoat these trucks now.

I have to take my skid plate off every 5,000 miles to change the oil so I wont have that problem. and I don't know about the gen 2 and where the oil filter is but mine is under the skid plate.

This shows how often the truck has been serviced as well. Or the last tech cross threaded the bolt and just sent it.

Do you also spray the solution onto the under body of the vehicle or just onto the frame?
@rustlessrides
@rustlessrides День назад
We spray all the internal box structure be can access without taking the vehicle apart. Which is most of the areas susceptible to rust. Then we spray the entire under carriage.

@@rustlessrides Cool. Thanks. I will have to apply some love to the under carriage. That is an area that was not touched.

I recently bought a 2006 Tundra that live in NY (not sure if it was the city or state) - kind of/sort of the rust belt. The owner did some frame rust prevention work which is why I went with this truck. I inspected a similar 2006 during my search and it had some rust and I saw lots of rusted bolts that I knew would be a problem as I went to do maintenance work and change out parts to my specification. I had this issue when I bought a 94 Ranger where the front shock bolts broke and I had to get new studs welded on, so I did not want to deal with those potential issues. I will be doing some light work on the frame before the winter. Always, always get under the 1st Gen Toyota trucks and inspect the frames. I used a borescope to inspect the frame, especially the area I could not see.

Having to be the guy doing a lot of these type repairs is why I started this company. I am tired of fixing rust! Thank you for sharing your experience.

@@rustlessrides It should be a lucrative trade if you are in the rust belt area. I'm in the DC area where we don't get much snow, but when we do I always go through the touch less car was for the under carriage wash to get rid of the road salt and grime after a snow or ice storm.

Anywhere in New York State is definitely the Rust Belt, not “kind of sort of”.
