Good advice but what if we need to buy a new vehicle now because our old vehicle broke down? I'm in that situation now in Ft Worth Texas and looking for a new 2024 Toyota Corolla LE sedan. All the Toyota DFW dealerships are selling new Corollas for 3-4k over MSRP and refusing to bring the price down. Corollas are a low supply high demand vehicle so dealerships easily sell them for over MSRP. They have no need to discount a Corolla for me, should I just buy a Mazda 3 or Civic instead? I can buy both the 3 or the Civic for under MSRP
Now that the engines are smaller, have turbo (aren't naturally aspirated), recalls and issues are popping up. They can keep their new Landcruisers. Reliability is not the same.
100%. The new (made in Mexico) Tacomas and Tundras are hot garbage in build quality, and I’ve started to hear of build quality issues with the new GX. All this on top of the well-documented engine issues. Sad how far Toyota has fallen.
@@mann8098 Yep, cheap plastics with the interior, hood rattle, more body roll, louder cabin noise. RU-vidr Josh’s Cars of Japan did a great review of the GX550 and how far the quality has fallen compared to Lexus of the past. Keeping my decade-old GX460 as long as possible.
My parents volvo xc90 has a four Banger with a turbo and supercharger and they've already replaced the engine at 60k. Along with a bunch of electronics .
@@honda116969 Bro, if only my 4Runner was a manual, it would be perfect. Apparently the new ones will have the option, but that would require switching to the 4 cylinder turbo :(
@@dylantech no way dude keep what you got your transmission is super reliable. Ya Manuel is nice sometimes but it's also nice to have a RELIABLE automatic haha 🛻💨💪👍🇺🇸
Agree re paying above MSRP. The Tundra is a manufacturing problem not an engineering problem. The Land Cruiser and T4R are made in Japan. Seems to make a difference.
The purpose of a dealership is to grift as much money out of you as possible. I’d call them thieves, but when you walk in voluntarily, you get screwed by choice.
Dealerships are a necessity of the system due to regulation prohibiting automakers from selling directly to buyers. It is a “consumer protection” regulation. Now you know who to blame for this.
Is it though? Do you understand how the global markets, central banking system works? Communists use this catch all word to hide the fact that they know NOTHING about economics, and more than likely support the very tyrants who creates and perpetuates it all.
Lmao debatable. If I had a nickel for every time I’ve heard the phrase I should’ve bought the Toyota from my father’s customers(he was a lifelong mechanic before retiring) I’d have a second small fortune.
Toyota has lost their way. They aren’t offering any US customer what we want. Hybrids have a place, but nobody wants a turbo 4 cylinder over a V6. No buyer asked for that.
@@beater6967 Yeah they do given real world mpg on an over worked 4cyl turbo will probably be about be equal to an appropriately sized v6. Turbos don’t save gas if you have to stay on them all the time. 100% same deal with the v6 in the heavier 5th gen. It gets about the same mpg as the v8 does in the 4th gen. We can blame them for the standards but their work around a have been less than ideal for consumers.
@@Thesinfultruth I meant V6 in the Tacoma and 4Runner. I wish they’d make a V8 4Runner again. There never was a V8 Tacoma. The Tundra needs the V8 and not the V6 that grenades itself.
I was planning to buy a landcruiser this year but overpricing and bad engine quality made me change my desire on buying any new car at these times . Let those overpriced cars rot in their lots.
"The Monroney sticker is required to be affixed to the side window or windshield by the manufacturers before shipment of new vehicles to the dealer for sale in the United States and it can only be removed by the consumer (Chapter 28, Sections 1231-1233, Title 15 of the United States Code)." The fine for the dealer taking it off is $1,000.
@@connor_flanigan you are absolutely correct but it does give you an insight to the tricky nature of the dealer. That rare brand-new automobile you want is being built at a rate of one every 37 seconds. Best wishes
I wouldn't buy any Toyota anymore. They went from the best, most reliable engine/transmission combos in History, to Complete Garbage with Cars that won't last the length of the payments, over night. I'd rather have an early 2000s Camry or Avalon than a new Toyota Truck. Their 25yr old used cars will out last their brand new 2025 trucks sitting on their lots today.
This makes 0 sense to me. If they are going to charge Lexus GX prices you may as well go and buy a Lexus GX. The dealer near me is selling GXs left and right at MSRP, while the Land Crusiers are just sitting around at the Toyota dealer down the street.
People are dumb enough to not know they are both Toyotas. Lexus is the biggest psychological scam Toyota successfully deployed over the American consumer.
My wife and I bought a used cx 5 with 80k on it for our nasty dog car ( we have coon hounds that shed alot) . That thing has 140k on it now and the only maintenance has been gas oil rubber and fluids . It's AWD system is phenomenal.
The most I've paid for a new Toyota is $25K. I asked for pricing for a new Camry and they've sent me offers every month for a year and call me regularly. I'm waiting for an offer under $30K. I've always been a cash buyer at my local dealership so they know that I can just write a check to buy a car. I have 2 old Camrys that run just fine and I'll just keep driving them for now.
@@BRLaue That's true. They will milk more money out someone who takes a loan out. But if they can still make a quick sale, possibly with add-ons (Warranty, tint, etc.). Why not?
@@tonycj7860 Agreed, that’s why I decide when I see the final deal whether I pay cash, take a loan, work a trade-in into the deal or walk. The last couple of years it has been mostly walk.
Just find the VOLUME dealer closest to you. There is always a volume dealer in every market who doesn’t charge mark ups. Ours in nashville is Beaman Toyota. You may have to get on a wait list for an allocation but they won’t charge a mark up.
The dealership I work for does not charge over msrp for vehicles (except for special or limited production edition vehicle like trd pros) even when dealerships started doing that we didn't. The thought was, when things go back to quasi normal, customers will remember that dealerships charging over msrp did them dirty.
Anyone who pays a markup deserves to get screwed. Just because Toyota puts a sticker on the window doesn't mean you have to pay it. I bought a new Toyota a few months ago. It had a sticker with $2600 in add-ons and a $2500 price markup. I told the salesman I wasn't paying it, nor MSRP, and call me if they wanted to deal, and then I left. He called 30 minutes later, and I drove away paying under MSRP.
They actually don't. I test drove the Land Cruiser and loved it. The responsiveness from the turbo and the torque are similar to my wife's 23 Highlander. Same same, but different. However, they wanted $65k for a base 1958, lol. I bought a 24 Tundra 1794 4x4 out the door at that price instead.
Since most people’s income isn’t going up 20% per year like Toyota’s MSRPs, they will price themselves out of their market. Stop buying! BTW, this happened with previous gen Land Cruiser and this new one WAS SUPPOSED to be much cheaper to get customers back. But with dealer Mark ups and these high option packages, the “lower” price point seems to be fake.
All my local toyta dealers are charging at least 4k over the MSRP, and their sales are low . They are calling all customers in the base to buy a new vehicle
To get around "market adjustment" they are doing things like adding $1000 windshield protection, $1500 Lojack, $1500 paint protection, and $3000 extended warranty.
fun fact - you have no obligation to buy the largest, most luxurious, most expensive product a car company makes. in fact, you're not obligated to buy any product from any company.
My wife was born/raised in the Bronx. Her whole family talks with their hands. They also speak loudly and have a funny accent, being from Alabama it was like learning to speak another language. I never get bored watching and listening to. Another thing I realize is they communicate and listen to each other. New Yorkers are good people until they start talking politics!
It’s easy to cry about a high price, but for some reason no one wants to stop buying at this price )) I'm not even talking about those who take out loans to buy a car that is beyond their financial capabilities.
Toyota has hubris, and given the transmission problems of the new Tacomas and the engine problems of the Tundra, most of us will go elsewhere when we find out the above MSRP at the Toyota dealers. Who is in charge of customer strategy at TMCC?
Just wait until you get the quotes for a Land Rover, Mercedes (any SUV) and the new VW Touareg…not sure what alternative you expect to get for cheap. Basically sheep mentality, it’s cool now to hate on Toyota whereas a rational person knows that the car market in general is currently overpriced.
I was in the market for a new one, but stopped. I had a dealer tell me I needed to buy now 4 months ago because prices were going up. I told her "that's the wrong way, I'll talk you when you guys are hurting." In this economy, These dealers not willing to offer a discount are out of their minds. Just wait 6 months, the country is heading for a major fall.
My dealership NEVER charges over MSRP!!! Our addendums are $1,098 but they are not required. I have customers all over the USA because we are transparent. Reach out, I’d love to help show you excellent customer service and fair prices. Enjoy Your Day!!!
beginning of the year , i tried to buy a prius. As I was getting ready to leave n the 2 hour trip to pick up the car. i called to put a $500 dollar deposit on an agreed on price. The sales guy told me he couldn't take a deposit because the car was going to be up for auction and the only way they would sell the car was with a $8k markup
That’s why I’m considering Hyundai. Sure camriesbare affordable but hard to get features that you want like HUD and 360 cam and they’re expensive without any of these features. At least Hyundai has these features as standard
Customers were begging Toyota to keep that V8 even before the problems with the new engines. So Toyota took a page from the 'Don't give your customers what they want" and ditched their legendary powertrain, what made the Land Cruiser and other trucks so reliable and powerful. I don't know who advises them but they should start listening to the people who buy their cars...or did.
The 300 series LC was literally 90k before taxes and most people could not afford it. That was the whole point of introducing a smaller cheaper Land Cruiser to the states. I can afford this truck and I have no desire to own one. People get so mad about not being able to get a depreciating asset like a vehicle. I drive a 5 year old truck and I'm fine with it. Who wants a car payment right now anyway. I find most people complaining about the price of these vehicles are the same people asking for 4k off an LE Corolla. If you need discount on a $24,000 dollar car you can't afford new car. The only price I found ridiculous is the Tacoma prices. I could buy a pretty well equipped Tundra or base Land Cruiser for what they are charging for a loaded up Tacoma.
i was getting quotes for 55k on the new RX luxury, my sister in-law bought one for 75k. I showed her the breakdown sheet i got from lexus at 55k and called her an idiot and laugh in her face. hahah
The problem isn’t the manufacturers or the dealerships. This is a US Federal Reserve monetary policy problem. The Fed has driven the value of the dollar so far into the ground, a car, a house, and raising a family is near impossible for someone who isn’t making six figures and got a head start making all the right decisions 10-15 years ago.
It will be since its based of the same TNGA body on frame as the Tacoma. So expect the same price hikes as the 2024 taco except more. 60K for base SR5's if your lucky. TRD pro's will probably start at 70K plus. They are not going to build this in Japan with the same 2.4 turbo hybrid system and charge less then the taco. Its going to have insane pricing. Just like all their new TNGA body on frames are. They did it with the Tundra, then with the taco, the LC and next the 4 runner.
@islandhopper100 Read again what I said carefully "They are not going to build this in Japan with the same 2.4 turbo hybrid system and charge less then the taco." Not the best sentence structure but I did say they won't build the same platform truck for less money then the Taco which is made in Mexico. And yes I know they made the 4 runner along with the GX, landcrusier etc.. As they have done for decades. See what you did? You took the first part "they are not going to build this in Japan" and responded without reading the rest. If you were alert enough you would have seen my point that making TNGA platform trucks in Japan cost allot more then using slave labor in Mexico. No way a Japanese made truck is going to cost less then a Mexican made body on frame. I'm not fact checked because I already know these will come from the Tahara plant along with just about everybody else that knows anything about toyota.
I’ve never understood people blaming Toyota or the car dealerships for markups. If buyers didn’t pay the markups then there would be no markups. At the end of the day a car company is a business and they here to make money, and if they can make that extra money from consumers, they will. If we as customers stopped paying the markups then there will be no markups
Part of the problem is that the last several years that Land Cruisers were available here in the USA they sold for $80,000-$90,000+ (LC's were sold loaded so this price variance is based on year not model level). So people that previously couldn't afford one are now excited to be able to get one for $55,000 - $77,000, depending on model because the price is a "bargain" compared to years past. So many people are asking who would pay that much for a Toyota! I bought my 2013 LC in December of 2014. It was used with 6,000 miles, and I paid $62,000 (10 years ago!). I still have that LC and could sell it today for $35k+. This is why people by Land Cruisers. Legendary off-road capability and huge retention of value.
The whole car industry needs regulations. There's zero reason why I shouldn't be able to just go online, buy the car and go pick it up. I shouldn't have to go in and feel like I'm getting fucked over every time I try and buy a car. Let me buy directly from Toyota or any other manufacturer and be done with these dealership assholes.
I put a deposit down for a Trailhunter Tacoma at my local Houston area Toyota dealer. When it comes in, I'm asking them if they can do MSRP. If not, my dealer already told me I can actually get my deposit back because we use the same guy every time in my family and he doesn't want to lose my whole family over the deal falling through.
I had placed a deposit on a Lancruiser. Started looking at other options. I ended up with a 2022 CPO Porsche Cayenne Base Model. Had only 5400 miles and a three year unlimited miles warranty. All in for
7/14/2024, the following are from my local Toyota dealer website for new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser. Lowest, 1958 SUV TSRP (MSRP+DPH): $58,674 Dealer Installed Accessories: $1,094 Dealer Adjustment: $2,500 Advertised Price: $62,268 Highest, 1st Edition SUV TSRP (MSRP+DPH): $77,928 Dealer Installed Accessories: $1,094 Dealer Adjustment: $10,000 Advertised Price: $89,022
All these manufacturers lost their minds on prices. I went with a 2024 RAV4 over the others because for the price, it’s the best option. I got it under MSRP.
I looked at a Nissan Maxima several years ago. There was a paper sticker attached to the main sticker that added $5,000 to the msrp. The salesman did a tap dance when I asked about it. I knew what it was. It is what is known as an AMV (adjusted market value). In other words, we can get 5K more than the msrp because people in your town have the extra money to spend.
In N. California, local dealer shows "dealer adjustment" of $4995 right on the website for Land Cruiser. Some sort of "adjustment" is added to nearly all models, especially hybrids. Sienna is $2995. Cross hybrid is $1995. Can't tell about Camrys. One in transit, others "in production." Supply is limited across the board. No one explains that.
Shop around since it's easy to do so online. The dealer in my town charges MSRP + adjusted market value. Forty miles away the dealer sells at MSRP and below on some vehicles. The owner does not allow markups. I went through this with VW years ago when I purchased a new Beatle convertible when they first came out at a dealer 300 miles away. Sure it took me almost the entire day to drive up with a friend of mine and back but I saved the $5000 adjusted price that the dealers in MD DC and VA were asking.
Why are you saying Toyota is out of their mind when it's the dealers that are pricing the Land Cruisers above MSRP? Toyota dealers are independent businesses and as such are driven by market supply and demand. They would not be doing this if the were sitting on Land Cruiser inventory - it's only because the supply is outstripped by demand. Simple economics. If the demand goes down, those mark-ups will also go down.
Never mind the mark ups, the MSRP on these ‘hunks of junk’ is insane all on its own. Let’s be honest you’d be extremely lucky to get 100,000 miles out of these turbo 4 bangers!
If they’re not blatantly adding dealer mark-ups (and they are) they’re adding all the junk options that nobody wants. $70 for some 3ft USB cables is one of strangest. Who doesn’t have a bunch of extra USB cables laying around the house? A dealership near me is adding on key fob insurance for $1,495 😂. I’ve never lost a car key in my life. Even if you did, most cars come with a spare anyways.
Found a used Land Cruiser FE that’s being sold at a non-Toyota dealership for nearly 90k, while brand new ones hover around the high 70’s. It’s ridiculous.
Both the new 4Runner and Land Cruiser are striking in appearance. BUT, while a lot of casual consumers may buy both; they are, in essence, enthusiast vehicles. That being the case, enthusiasts are showing resistance to the new turbo or hybrid drive trains. They might be fine enough for the soccer moms, but do they have the long-term reliability that hard-core Toyota buyers value? It's still early, but initial impressions of the Tundra have been less than spectacular. It's quite possible Toyota has shot themselves in the foot. 😢
I have a question. I bought a Toyota Crown 2024 back in November 2023. The online price was about 39 500. I went there, they said it was 41 500. I showed them their own price and they said they will adjust it. Then I go inside to look into buying it and they said after everything the car will be 53 500. I was like WAIT WHAT LOL?! HOW? So, I asked them to give me a break down. At first they gave me some vague breakdown of 5 items that were saying fees. On the 5th time of me asking they brought an itemized list. I told them a bunch of things I didn't even want. They reduced it to 49 500 and still included said things because Toyota Service, alarm and many other things are simply included in the car already, so they can't remove them (like Toyota Service) or take them out (like the alarm). They even charged me for shipping it from Japan lol. My question is: I understand, of course, there would be fees for buying it from the Dealership but how much did they basically rip me off lol? I live in Nevada. Also, when I went for an oil change, one of the salesmen said that basically they sometimes lose money on some sales (like mine) but they still want the customers to be happy. I just dont understand how they lost money on me since I still paid a few thousand above the price they had listed?! Also, things like the Toyota Service plan are part of buying a new car but they charge for it?! When i told them I have insurance, so I won't need this roadside help, they said they will deduct it BUT THEN it was still included even though it got deducted lol?! None of this makes any sense 🤦♀️ I have never bought a new car before, so I tried to read about it as much as I could at the time but it still boggles my mind why the car can't just cost as much as it says on the price tag?!
Yup. As a person who's been shopping for a vehicle lately, it is absolutely mind boggling how sketchy all the dealers are getting. It's literally insanity. Add to that how quickly vehicles depreciate and it's impossible to get anything if you have cold hard cash.
Toyota and Honda have some of the lowest inventories out there. There is no excuse anymore. Why are other manufactures able to produce more cars? I would pass on both and get a Mazda....this from a Honda/Toyota fanboy. Vote with your $.
The dealer markup in the Bay Area is like $10-15k. Dealership in Colorado doesn’t charge mark up. I could fly out there and enjoy a road trip home and save money.
I was on waiting list for Land Cruiser, got offered one, and finally took for a test drive. After taking a look at the small back space AND seeing a $5000+k markup, I dropped the idea of buying. Math just didn’t make sense. It is a wonderful vehicle, but way overpriced. Now looking seriously at RAV4. Can get slightly below MRSP with no markup. Mudbuster will have to wait.
Many Toyota models are cutting out 90% of the market with prices today (Tundra, LC, Sequioa). Don’t blame it all on dealerships. It is mostly the manufacturer’s fault because of them setting the suggested MSRPs as high as they do.
MSRP and TSRP are the exact same thing. Toyota rolled out the change is July 2023 across all platforms. "To increase transparency and consistency in our manufacturer suggested retail pricing terminology across the enterprise, Toyota is introducing a new labeling term “Total Suggested Retail Price” that aligns with the total price listed on the Monroney label."
I went to a Toyota dealership to check the Sequoia TRD Pro ( a car that I don't need but wanted). OT was $90K the the dealership put a n extra $10K as markup. A $100K Toyota Sequoia! This made me open my eyes. The mistake we make of buying on a whim and not judiciously.
2015 4runner owner here, 200k+ miles. Unfortunately when it comes time to replace I don't see myself getting the 6th gen and its lawnmower engine. I may look for a used LX570 or Land Cruiser V8 instead
