I’m not in a rush to get out my 200 into a 300 series. 11 years and 230km on the clock with a lot of heavy towing and not one issue with the old girl, and I’m still on my second set if tyres😳 she’s been serviced religiously by Toyota and runs better than a Swiss watch.
I have the 200 Sahara with split tailgate. I use the lower split all the time, to sit on, as a work bench, as a table etc. etc. etc. The one piece tailgate on the 300 would absolutely stop me from buying the vehicle. What was Toyota thinking!!!
@@rodneyrowell7743 Complexity, cost. Though it looks like it could have been split from the exterior design, and may be that they will consider it for the future.
Pretty standard video, but I can't stand the all around positivity, everything about this NEW and IMPROVED is BETTER, nothing to criticise. The removal of the split tailgate, beloved by all, is a huge negative, yet you manage to spin it in a positive light, to please the manufacturer, I guess. Are you making the review for the consumer, or is this a PR piece for Toyota? “When it's up, it makes for a handy shelter.“ That could be said about the 200 as well, its tailgate could also go up and be a handy shelter. Great seal against dust? I guess I better tell all the offroaders that own the 200 that they've been doing it wrong. Completely new engines, architecture, smaller fuel tank, 12+ years since the last model and all they manage to do is shave a few 10s of kg and 0.6l/100km better fuel economy “but it could be a lot worse“ ... for what? You lose the V8 for 0.6l/100km, for a new engine with unknown reliability? No thanks.
Great review ! I'm just a little disappointed with the LC300 ,, I guess I expected more after 14 years ,, it's as though Toyota did as little as possible to charge the most they could. The 10 speed gearbox sounds great ,, but will miss the V8
@@qksmith ,, put the V6 in the Prado !! They've had 14 years to develop a new eco fuel efficient V8 ,, I'm sure with their endless financial resources they could have managed it ,, if they wanted to !
Being a Mechanic and over 40 years experience with many as a Factory Trained Toyota Technician I have always been Impressed with Toyota Products but they Often Skip on Quality compared to other Brands and I don't see the Value Myself..Anyway you pay a Massive Premium to Purchase a New Landcruiser and are always Guaranteed to get a Top Resale Price when you Sell it..I Personally Believe that the Nissan Patrol TI is Far Superior and $30k to $40k Cheaper and if you do some Correct Modifications the Nissan Patrol is the Best Investment Option all Road and Far more Capable..Having Said that Australians Love the Landcruiser and have done many Trouble Free KMS..The USA Doesn't even want them unless you Purchase a LEXUS L600 ..Toyota had to Create LEXUS FOR THE US MARKET as they could not sell their Toyota Vehicles...LEXUS = (Limited Export US )...Ad for Me I Drive a BMW X5 F15 35I Twin Turbo 6 Cylinder Petrol Engine with around 10 litres per 100kms Consistently..Pure Luxury and Power with High Performance Handling and latest Technology and Similar to Maintain..Every One to their Own Choice although if you are Planning a Big Trip and want Pure Luxury and Comfort go for the BMW X5 or X7, If you want a Tough Capable Off Road Vehicle then choose the Toyota or Nissan Patrol TI and also for Top Quality and Performance the ISUZU MUX LST is a must for Consideration especially for Price and Value....
I’m really surprised the don’t have a lot of the towing tech out there now (eg RAM, Silverado GLS) also very surprised how bad the third row legroom is for one of the biggest large SUV out there (and foot room for 2nd row pax under the front seat looks tight). Also shelf have wireless CarPlay these days and on Sahara model and above for the $. None the less look forward to test driving it.
@13:09 what the hell are you talking about l?! This engine is literally taken from the Lexus LS500 which came out in 2018 and people been complaining about it ever sense. The LS lost customers because of the turbocharger lag. So not only this engine was NOT developed for the LC300, it also has a lot of complaints.
@@hastensavoir7782 well i dont for sure but that is one of the reason they moved to v6 from v8, less moving parts, larger components for the engine volume etc. engineers tend to learn and improve over time, no reason it shouldn't be more reliable, unlikely to be less so just because its got a 6 not an 8.
@@qksmith you think a twin turbo V6 will last longer than a NA V8??? Also I bet the 10 speed auto will fail sooner too. This truck will need massive money for repairs within 10 years or sooner imo. We'll see..
@@noiseyboy2h4jj1 Maybe its to give the LC300 a better official fuel figures. But I too am baffled why Toyota went a size smaller compared to previous LC models.
Anyone thinking they are going to be using this pimped up barbie camper for more than just driving down a dirt lane or towing the "horsey" float is going to sadly disappointed.
90k+ for a vehicle with no front or rear parking sensors and "most" of the safety gear! Unless your towing a giant boat/trailer/camper these vehicle's make no sense in town. Mind you, I say the same about ute's. If I wanted to feel like I was in a boat going around roundabout's then this would be the ideal vehicle.
6months/10k servicing? Come on Toyota pull your finger out...then again if you can afford one, then this wont be an issue. Maybe this is so Toyota can make some money off Govt issue vehicles?
My car is on a 6mth interval and it's a downright inconvenient pain in the arse. Imagine if you lived remotely and had to drive a long distance into town.
Within 2 minutes the reviewer was defending major price increases to the Toyota 300 vehicles with BS motherhood statements Didn't bother watching any more as obviously another Toyota funded add. Just appauling.
There is no justifcation for paying that much. But I don't blame Toyota, if there is an idiot around every corner to willingly give you their money, why would'nt you take it!
I travel the bush and live in a regional area. Many farmers and regional business owners seem quite happy to buy 200 series Cruisers at $100-130k. The price rises, average to poor equipment for the price, short service intervals and higher service cost and low hanging diffs killing clearance doesn't seem worry them. Not for me.
Absolutely fantastic review 👌. Cover everything and left no stone unturned. Saw other Australian car review channels but no one covers it comprehensively the way you just did. Excellent job Malcolm 👌
Yet no mention that the 3rd row was so low to the floor that your average Shiela would be able to rest her boobs on her knees! Kids only back there, unless your a masochist or vertically challenged individual.
I must say you look very snug in the driver's seat.... i swear they they made the interior much smaller than the 200... didn't mention the most important thing for towing capacity....GCM??? The Tailgate is a joke come on you nearly walked off set to open it... like to see a boat on the back and trying to open it now 🙆
So by the time I load the family in a long with all the other items needed for a trip away etc then hook up the van I feel I have exceeded the vehicle's load capacity limit. Just have to decide who or what to leave behind.
Toyota is yet to officially reveal its plans for an LC300 Hybrid, although one is expected at some stage. Stay tuned to CarsGuide.com.au as we learn more!
$130k plus for a Landcruiser, $95k for a Patrol that has more features. I know which I prefer. $35k buys a lot of accessories and a lot of fuel. Too expensive Mr Toyoda.
I’m looking for good reliable engine for hot climate country. I think this is the car over European make. I like the look of this new 300 series specially the GR model.
Fuel economy is sounding hideous... how can they have a V6 now with a 10 speed transmission and 130 kilos less weight and its doing well over 11 lp100k on the freeway (if thats what the puter says it's probably 12+) ... wtf! Watching some vids the transmission is a joke like the previous one... touch the throttle and it just slips and free revs for no reason with no utilization of the diesels torque. Toyota still stuck in the 80's?
Toyota is losing the plot. My current VX suits me better and is more practical. To many electrics no split tailgate fuel filler on left. Over priced shopping cart. Even if money was no object I wouldn’t buy one. Can’t see where to fit a 2nd battery under the bonnet. Its designed for yuppies and not for Australian drivers
When it came time to buy a new 4wd l had my heart set on an LC200. My previous vehicle was a 2006 Jeep Commander with 350,00k's on the clock, only had a couple of small issues with it, otherwise totally reliable. It ran a Mercedes Benz Turbo V6 and averaged about 12 liter per 100km. When l looked at what was out there in the way of a large family 4wd's the LC200 just didn't stack up. If l had the time l could list all the issues. But one of the major ones was the third row seats, which on such a big vehicle were useless. Apart from taking up all that space in the cargo bay, you couldn't get in and out easily and when you did, because the third row seats were almost flat on the floor as an adult your knees were up around your head. Which means it's pretty much useless for long trips even for teenager's. Of course a lot of people don't use the 3rd row, so this doesn't matter. l hope toyota have fixed this up in the LC300. l have no issue buying a well designed V6 over a V8, just don't know about the Hot V configuration. In the end l bought a TI Nissan patrol and put some of the money towards improving the economy. It now has a Unchip, Air intake and Torqit exhaust installed and is averaging 14.4litres per 100kms. On the highway it now goes below 10 litres per 100kms. The car is a beast has 360KW and 670NM of torque. If you don't drive it like you stole it, and for $35K less than a comparable Toyota it is a steal, then it won't suck petrol and you will get economy that is similar or better than an LC200 however l think the LC300 is going to do a better job here. However Toyota has jacked up the price again another 10k again. l can no longer see the value of the Landcruiser compared to other offerings and think when the Ineos Grenadier comes out Toyota and possibly Nissan will loose sakes to it. I'm not a Toyota or Nissan fanboy. If you do your research on the net you will find that the Patrol is equally as capable as the LC200. Now would Like to see how it stacks up now to the LC300. The interior is certainly miles better than the Patrol but l can forgive this for $40-$45K price difference.
They didn't solve the 3 row issue at all, just watch Paul Maric's review, it's hilarious. The Patrol is my dream car, I wholeheartedly agree with your decision.
These vehicles will be loaded up with gear (not to mention accessories) & a van on the back (since it can tow 3.5 tonne) and driven all around the country. But with around 700kg payload that combination will be illegal. Why are the payloads so tiny?
Hi Bert, It strikes me the payload ratings are carefully balanced with expectations around ride comfort and suspension travel articulation. Stiffer springs etc would resist load better, but everything else would have to compromise. Cheers, Mal Flynn
@@carsguide That is presumably right. However, there is no clear warning that you can’t carry people and luggage and accessories and tow. As a result there are people who buy in good faith but are unknowingly driving illegally and potentially compromising their insurance. They could also be unsafe. I suggest manufacturers, dealers & reviewers need to at least emphasise the limitations.
If the prado come out with the 3.3 v6 turbo diesel as the story goes atm it may mean less sales on the 300. The vx prado isn't a bad thing and with the stated 227kw and 700nm it'll be a nice tow. 👍
Why are these reviews not objective? It's really an advertisment of features not a critical review at all. The split tail gate never leaked dust. It's better for towing boats. The single hatch make it questionable whether you can open the back as winch clearance is going to be tight!. There's no discussion about actual 3.5 ton towing ability. There no discussion about the 10 speed transmission and actual engine braking and manual shift. How do you fit a rear view caravan towing camera screen on that dash. Relying on mirrors for a heavy big van is so yesterday. And lastly is the heat issue.
@@NoOne-qr8yf See John Cadogen report. John was concerned about the potential under bonnet heat because of the design of the Turbos that would potentially trap allot of heat into the centre of the V6. So when the engine is working hard and its hot and slow e.g. towing a load in sand and its 45 degrees which isn't unusual in inland Australia whether the temperatures could become a problem. It's too early to tell. This summer might provide further information however. The V6 like the previous V8 are thermal heat transfer systems. The V6 is generating significantly more NM. We shall see. Cheers
@@rosewood1 what makes you think that one of the best(if not the best)car makers on the planet have not already tested this .wtf listens to that opinionated wanker anyway.but i agree with you when you say we will see (i wonder why toyota didnt involve the youtube experts in the testing)🥴
Starting at $90000, it feels stingy to have a smaller screen and wired Airplay, that stuff doesn't cost much to implement but they just seem to cut that stuff to justify the more expensive versions. Comparing the value to the Nissan Patrol, the Landcruiser is definitely more expensive to buy but costs less to run. The Patrol doesn't seem so stingy on the extras and even the cheapest one gets more than the cruiser. The problem will be actually getting one delivered.
Curious to know where the 1.5 points were lost. a rating of 8.5 / 10. What was lacking and where to lose points? How long do you think until a Cruiser VS Patrol review available ?
I think Toyota saying they can't get the car and not sure when is a great sales strategy as it's working great in creating hype. Unfortunately I'm not buying it and I believe a lot more buyers are not either. It may be a good car but the money they are asking for it makes it terrible value.
This presenter should stop seeing viewers as children: it's not necessary to explain how we could watch a video. It takes ages before the video finally starts. Skip the self explanatory nonsense and the video could be a lot shorter.
Are the centre control buttons backlit? Glare looks like it'll be an issue using piano black combined with that brushed silver. 7:05 No ISOFIX points in row three, and only two in row two. Sorry, parents of triplets, it's a Kia Carnival or Hyundai Palisade for you. And towing that 2.9t caravan, with 290kg on the towball (10%), the Sahara ZX is left with 380kg of remaining payload based on 670kg starting weight.
How many people actually have triplets? And how many of them have 300 series money? I don't know about Australia, but in South Africa it's mostly middle aged couples with kids in their late teens to early twenties that are buying these. It was the same with the 200 series. Both are aimed at rich people, and rich people around here tend to be smart enough to stop at 2 kids. I highly doubt that Toyota was trying to design the 300 series for people with their own creche.
Brilliant review of the model variance, Mal. Best one I'm seen to date. 👍 I have to say, I've never seen the GXL variant from any previous LandCruiser models look more like a poverty pack than it does in the LC300 (referring to the front). From how it looks from the outside, its hard to believe it cost $109K drive away.. And you have to go to the Sahara & above to get a HUD? Really Toyota? C'mon Toyota, nowadays that should be a standard feature. And if Hyundai/Kia can fit a wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on their Sub $40k models, surely you can fit one in your $100+K LandCruisers? I'm both loving it and feeling like I'm going to get ripped off at the same time.
Onya Hammer, thanks for your support. Yeah, some very interesting value elements compared with other brands. Overall, it's an astounding achievement though. Cheers, Mal Flynn
@@stendecstretcher5678 People that actually use them and also townies who never use them for what they were intended (sometimes I feel like is number is higher).
Another car for the Dubai market. Why do we always get lumbered with these soft luxury land-yachts? I suppose they are a safe bet for suburban buyers which is where the money is. I just wish car makers would be a bit more innovating and interesting with their new cars rather than always playing it safe.
Try that arguent in a bush pub with both 70 series and 200s parked outside and see how you get on. Good luck. I have a better vehicle but most people think it is a city AND. How little they no.
