I suggest to anyone that owns a 2nd gen Prius. just buy this part and keep it in the car along with the tools to fix it incase you are far somewhere. As i write this i just got this code and im 3 hours away feom home. This is the second prius 09 i own and the first time i was stranded far from home until autozone opened in the morning. But if you have it, you could change it right away and keep moving.
I pulled a code on my 2015 Prius that's associated with a water pump failure. All the internet searches kept pointing to the engine water pump, but now I'm thinking it's the inverter water pump. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for the vid. My car ('06) just threw this code as I was pulling in at my house. Thankfully I don't drive a whole lot, so I have the time to diagnose and repair.
248,000 miles on factory pump in '08 Prius. Will be doing this asap. Watched another video and they didn't remove the headlight at all, just loosened 2 inverter bolts and lifted up corner for clearance.
I just had this code popped up. Would this make my AC stop blowing cold as will? That’s what happened in my case. While driving, the code popped up and compressor seemed to stopped. Fan is still blowing air but no ac.
just got done doing this job. didnt realize i could sneak that last headlamp bolt under the wheel liner. i did it through where you are placing your extended ratchet. imagine the clamps down there through that tight space! lube was my friend. bleed and working and almost back together, 2 hours. shoulda took that fucking light out!!!!
I have already changed 3 pumps on my car. There is a defect of this pump that after 1/2 years well running it often stops working and need a error cancellation to restart
My pump had physically failed. If you watch to the very end you can see where I bench tested it and the bearings sounded terrible. In my case, an error cancellation wouldn’t have solved it.
so that rattling noise that we can hear when you check the fluid after installing the pump (10:40)...is the pump? that noise has been driving people crazy cause nobody knows what it is?
I don't remember that the pump was "rattling", but I could hear it whirring. If you watch at the very end of the video you can hear what the faulty pump sounded like on the bench. The new one was certainly not nearly as noisy.
So i had a P0A94 code replaced inverter and drove fine for 200 miles now same code came up with triangle could it of been cooling pump the entire time? Im stuck...
I’m not actually sure exactly what the car will do, but it’s certainly designed to protect itself, as the inverter would seriously overheat and be damaged.
Last week I brought my 2008 prius gen 2 with 141k miles (I bought it last year for 7500 usd from an old couple) to the Toyota dealer in The Netherlands. A big red triangle on the dash with the car and exclamation sign on the touchscreen came up. It said there was something wrong with the hybrid package. The dealer did some reading on the car, and they told me the dc converter did not convert well so the risk of getting a short circuit in the hybrid system is pretty high. They told that the dc converter cost without taxes about 3000 USD, with labour cost it will cost around 5000 to 6000 USD in total. However, they said that when you replace the dc converter it is still not problem free. Other problems that are connected to the dc converter or hybrid system might occur. Is this true? Or is this a protocol of the dealer to communicate such things? They offered me to sell the car to them for 2000 USD. Should I keep and fix it elsewhere or sell the car?
I would highly recommend getting a second opinion. Find another shop nearby and see what they have to say about it. The dealer isn’t always the best option. Let’s say a second shop finds the same thing, they might happily source a used hybrid drive for far less cost. Or maybe the dealers assessment isn’t even correct to begin with. Hard to say. Good luck!
It just happened to me yesterday. Gonna have to change it. But car still drives even with triangle. How much did you pay for the pump? Could you please guide me to the website you order it from. Mine is a 2008. Will the same pump work?
By the way. The AC air blow got warmer like 20 minutes before the triangle came on my dash. Will this be related ? Or the AC is another problem that just coincidentally appear almost at the same time?
The AC is probably related. I don’t remember how much the pump cost exactly but I ordered it from a Toyota dealer. I don’t know that your year will have the same exact pump, you’ll need to look it up.
@@rdonlloyd yes. The AC got fixed too. I order the Original from Amazon was the easiest and fastest. Installed the part following the video. And I got lucky that the light fitted back without struggle. All in is an easy fix.
@@MovingtoMiami Thanks for the reply. You were right, A/C came right back. :) I am glad that @Shane'sGettingHandy created the vid. I diagnosed, bought the part, and installed it all yesterday. Super easy fix. saved $500 and had zero down time.
I've done work in that same area before just by lifting the inverter a bit, and I started doing it that way on this one too, but backtracked and went with the headlight this time.
Can I replace any Audi or vw electric water pump on my Prius for inverter converter? Since the original water pump is hard to get get here in my country
