I never get them. I used to sell cars and the finance guys would crush people on the back end of those deals. Also, ask for OEM glass or they will just give you a cheap china shield that will crack even easier.
When reaching agreed price with the salesman I advise him to let the finance manager know I won't purchase anything else, then if the guy tries to sell me on any product my quick and blunt answer is No. Some people might be surprised to see how a simple and firm No puts a crimp in high pressure sales technique. 😎👍................Tacoma sure looks good.
The way MODERN VEHICLES are made nowadays.....HECK YES!!! Majority of modern vehicles have ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS in them and once your regular Warranty goes up.......$$$$$$$$ Jokes on you!!!!!
I bought a standard warranty for my wife's RAV4 it was a good car and then some modular went out in it didn't affect the car but it showed an engine light to get to the dealer told him I had to extend the warranty I bought they said it expired two months ago I had to pay $270 for this little modular never again I'll save the money on the side for issues...
We have a low deductable, but I believe it is rare for a windshield repair to have a deductable. That said, if you tend to submit claims for every rock chip or minor dent, look for your rates to increase significantly.
I would argue certain vehicles/brands it would be worth it. For example a FCA vehicle I would buy an extended warranty, but a Toyota I probably would not.
1sr don’t buy any plans from dealer. Instead go to Jerry Johnson out of a Kansas Toyota Superstore and you can get a extended warranty like I did for $1140 for 125000 miles where dealer wanted $3800 for the same. He has all the plans just not a big markup and they are all Toyota Financial plans, the exact same plan the dealers are trying to sell you.
2023 Toyota Vehicle Service Agreement Platinum "VSA" Plan and Cost chart shown below. only applies to 4RUNNER, HIGHLANDER AWD GAS, RAV4 HYBRID/PRIME, TACOMA 4WD, TUNDRA 2WD, VENZA, CAMRY, GR COROLLA If you paid more, you have been had. Your new Toyota vehicle or Toyota Certified Pre-Owned (restricted by mileage) qualifies for Extended Warranty. It is possible to find lesser prices at other Toyota dealerships Your VSA takes effect the day you purchased the vehicle. New vehicles are already covered for the first 3 years /36 months or 36,000 miles by Toyota. If you intend to keep your vehicle for less than 5 years, you do not need a VSA. If you plan on keeping the vehicle for 5 plus years get the VSA that suits you. Since I drive between 6K to 10K miles per year, I have the Toyota 10-year/100K mile VSA for $1,840. The Toyota dealer where I purchased my Camry, the Finance Manager quoted me 7yr/100K for $1,855. I shopped around got my VSA for $15 less and 3 more years. You can contact any Toyota Dealer in the USA to get a quote, most times you can save $100 to $1,000. Because some Dealerships are schemers and charge $2,500 to $4K. If there is a Markup on any new or Cert Pre-Owned vehicle you wish to purchase beyond the Window Sticker MSRP. Run far away from the scamming profit making dealership. If they say the vehicle is Rare, 99% they are lying. and you should leave the dealership. Yes! some vehicles are hard to get, but be realistic...Rare!!! Use common sense. Hope you do not toss your money around. Never tell a dealer salesperson you are paying in full with Cash! Wait until you have negotiated the price and terms you want, then indicate you want to pay in cash. Let them check your credit score, does it really matter when you will stick it to them when you got your price then Oh! I'm paying all in cash for that car. Never ever Trade In a vehicle ..it's like going to the Pawn Shop and you are willing to lose money. Sell your vehicle privately or gift the vehicle to a family member. Never sell to a friend unless you want to end your friendship. Your auto insurance should have Glass Coverage with deductible. Getting it from a dealership is B.S. and generally more expensive. Beware of 3rd Party Extended Warranties ... most are scams and may actually cost more than Original Manufacturer warranty. Same. I never buy extended coverages but agree with the one you chose. You also have to read the fine print to make sure they don’t screw you over on, “we cover this but not that” type of BS. I’ve heard glass companies say that if a crack is not obstructing your view, your ins company might not cover it etc. I’m sure certain extended plans work for some, but typically don’t pay off in the long run. And it plays on emotions since all modern vehicles can be insanely expensive to repair. I guess it’s up to the individual. ;)
Luckily I’ve never been in the position to where I’d ever need to use a protection plan. That to say I’ve never bought one. When I recently bought my Taco finance did everything he could to get me to buy an extended warranty. He even cut the price in half (which was probably already marked up lol)
I have purchased one for my 2019 Honda Insight, only reason is because everything is electronic on the car and I mean everything. But not my 19 Tacoma. What people need to know is that you don’t HAVE TO PURCHASE the extended warranty from the dealership where you are purchasing the vehicle. You can buy it at any dealership so shop around for the best price, I saved about 700 dollars by just calling 2 more dealerships to check their pricing. But thanks again for the good content. I love watching your videos out here in Savannah GA. 👌🏽
Should always never buy protection plans. Especially on new cars. Total rip off. Worked at VW dealership before and the products they use to wax your car and how they wash it is beyond wrong. Due to the nature of the dealership. I scratched about a dozen golf Rs
I bought two extended service plans from Ford. I didn’t need them, but used them just before the expiration for minor things. I haven’t bought one cents. I invested in a pretty high-level scan tool, and do the work myself.
I get the paint protection due to living in the mid west with lots of sappy trees(don’t park under cottonwoods in the spring), it works. Could probably find it cheaper in aftermarket
I appreciate that man, thank you! 🙏🏼 Yeah you’re right... unfortunately by me opting into the cheapest windshield protection plan... they are to pursue the cheapest option. I didn’t get the “OEM protection plan” smh lol...
I have autoglass coverage through my insurance. The deductible is up to 300 per windshield but it lasts the lifetime of the vehicle. Here in Montana that goes a long way. My windshields typically cost between 1200 and 1500 otherwise.
The F&I (Finance and Insurance) manager is the most lucrative sales person of the dealership. Many people don't know it but the F&I office makes more money for the dealership than sales floor. There are so many ways to make money at the back end in the F&I office it's mind blowing. This of course is done by design because by the time you reach that point of your vehicle purchase you're already mentally and physically exhausted from dealing with the sales person that you'll tend to drop your guard and agree to other products the F&I manager offers just to get it done and over with.
When I bought my 2021 TRD Cement, I did buy the 150k extended bumper to bumper warranty from the stock 60k. When looking at my extra monthly cost, it was $10 more a month...which for some is 2 coffees a week. It personally was a no brainer for me.
The house usually wins, which is why they push so hard to upsell you on all those warranties. If you never purchase those warranties throughout your life, sure there may be a couple of times where you'd find it would've been useful, but overall you will save money foregoing them. On my current car, they tried to sell me a $1200 extended warranty covering 5 years. I declined. I ended up getting a blown shock in year 4. That would've been covered under the extended warranty. Cost me $190 to have repaired at my mechanic. I am past the 5 year mark now. So looking back, I saved myself $1010 declining that coverage.
Finance guy when I bought my corolla wouldn't honor the price on the web unless I accepted a $700 surface protection plan. To date I've never gotten any documentation on what the coverage is or covers or for how long... SISKIN apparently is the 3rd party. I have a scratch on my door handle I want to see if they fix it, but the phone number is dead.
I purchased one when I bought my tacoma new in 2015. Had one claim for the belt tensioner, they tired to tell me that I had to pay to remove the ac compressor to install the new tensioner and wasn't covered by Toyota. In addition 2 pulleys needed to be replaced. In the end they didnt charge me. Also 3 years later still havent changed those pulleys that they said were bad. Dealership just trying to make more money.
Good looking color, cement is 2nd best to quicksand, personal opinion. Some of those plans are a trap. On a lighter note...”WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CONTACT YOU ABOUT YOUR VEHICLE’S WARRANTY!”
First off, untamed, I really hope you never get rid of this Tacoma - I’m not a pickup guy but this truck is fabulous. It is a keeper, more than anything else you’ve shown us on this channel. As for the protection plans, it’s been a mixed bag - I keep cars much longer than you do so I’ve had the opportunity to exercise them often, but it’s very hard to tell if they are worth the upfront costs vs just paying for the repairs - given how hard the finance guys push them I’d guess it’s a lucrative business for the insurers and so better not to buy.....
Thanks man, it really is the perfect Tacoma... 👌🏻 Yeah I’m with you. If you keep rigs for a longer duration, I can see the benefit of leaning on these plans. I’m indifferent on them I think... it really depends on the type of vehicle you get. If it’s an FCA product, the plans may be more worthwhile lol... Toyota? Not so much.
I just bought a 2023 Toyota Tacoma and yes I paid the $2,500 for 10 years or 100.000 Mi bumper to bumper. The factory 3 year 36000 mile warranty is limited and does not cover all the electronics. So it's worth paying the $2,500 for 10 years of insurance
Bought it and my financial guy wouldn't canceled it. And i went though the people it was warranty though and told them to canceled it. They said they send the money to the lienholder holder. Idk when the papers are gonna update.
@@fredsanford1437 oh the video is about protection plans. Like extended warranties or windshield replacements… Not paint protection. I wouldn’t pay anything extra for a paint protection that was applied unless it’s a paint protection film -which you can see under the edges of the hood.
I never buy extended warranties and never needed them. They wanted $7,000 more for the top tier plan for my 21 OR. The finance guy did everting he could and I finally told him to just skip the sales pitch and let’s move on.
I got gap insurance for 5 yrs so when do you recommend take it off ? what do you think ? I know they said can take it off when I want I know when my car isn’t worth as much
My husband just bought a 2021 we opted for the one just above basic that included GAP.... windshield replacement we are covered under our insurance. Didn't think the extras that were mostly cosmetic were worth the extra cost when you can pocket that money (2K for us) into a savings to use when needed. If you don't end up using it they win and you lose. On the other end my dad bought a new Tacoma and bought every bell and whistle they offered... to him for a 60K+ truck it was worth it for connivence of letting Toyota deal with it if he has any problems. I guess it depends on your own personal perspective!
Hi untamed, I had the platinum on my AG 2020 4runner pro. I canceled it about month ago because my LunaRock tundra is coming in end of April. About year and half and got back $1670 paid 1900.00 10 year 100000 miles. There was no reason to keep it going till I get my tundra. Don’t know if I will take one right away.
I never consider these extended warranties. 1) There is always a ton of fine print about documentation of having all preventative maintenance performed (and documented) as a condition for being able to make a claim. 2) Third party extended warranties are definitely a non-starter - it isn't worth the time or hassle trying to get them to pay. 3) I tend to stick to more reliable vehicles (like Toyota) and the odds are in your favor that extended warranties aren't worth it - the house always wins.
I purchased a platinum warranty for my previous Tundra (2013) base I bought it certified used. Long story short.the warranty paid for itself. I dumped it shortly before the warranty was done. I bought a new 2018 in June of 2019.
I guess it would depend on the situation, new car? Old car? How long you plan to keep it? But for me, I usually plan on keeping my car for a number of years especially if it’s only a few years old. More than likely go with the extended warranty if they don’t offer one or the warranty is ending. Other than that, no need for PPF, lifetime paint work or whatever. It’s all for the finance guy to make extra money. They usually are upset but hey, at the end of the day “you” are the one paying for it not them. Honestly, it’s not often you would use much of the plans, except maybe a freak accident! Hopefully you have a good tech who’s replacing your windshield. My dad had Safelite come do his new Tundra and the tech did not seal it correctly and it turned out bad. So he took it to a local place near by but had to do it “TWO” times to get the seal correct on it! Replacing a windshield is never the same as from factory. But hey, maybe my dad just had a experience. I guess everyone is different.
Great vid as always brother...got the extended warranty on my 20 AG Tundra Pro I purchased the 8 years 100k miles and the 7 year unlimited Windshield replacements with a Factory Toyota windshield for around 2000 together but negotiated it way lower than that , only reason for the 8 year 100k is mainly for motor, trans etc. so it will be worth it for me , I paid cash for the warranty separate , so that’s why I got it down close to 1500 OTD , kinda like needing the warranty but never using ,but needing it and not having it with factory warranty over , you will pay big bucks for motor, trans , etc ..... just me on the warranty to get or not to get ... as always stay safe out there !!
You’re right. Some insurance companies will keep track of your usage of things like this and begin to hike up your rates. Having this plan through toyota gives me people better peace of mind is all.
Usually it's illegal but it all depends on whether the police actually want to enforce it. In my area, if you're not doing anything else to draw attention, they usually won't care.
What do you mean? I drive it everyday. Or do you mean off roading? I’ve had mine off road more than most taco owners. But guess what, that doesn’t matter. 👍 if you like something, buy it and enjoy it however you want. Or are you the typical “if I had that, I’d be off roading it every day!” guy? Don’t be that guy, trust me. Not a good look.
