Toyota RAV4 Hybrid vs. Honda CR-V Hybrid -- Which Should You Buy?? 

They drive differently. Honda drives more like a sedan and is quiet inside at high speeds. Toyota drives like a mini Land Cruiser and the engine is very loud at higher speeds.

They’re about even but I’d take the RAV. Their hybrid system is more proven

I am actually in this situation right now as we have narrowed down to these two choices. With interest rates currently through the roof, we will make a decision in a few months based on whichever comes out to be a better deal financially. Thank you for the video!

It should be noted that these vehicles are half a generation apart. When the new RAV4 comes (likely next year) we should expect the favorite to tip the other way. By then the CR-V would be two year old tech.

No spare tire on the Hybrid CRV, that is a big negative in a direct comparison as far as I am concerned.

How's the cablegate issue on the latest rav4 hybrid's ?

The new generation facelift CR-V is just super expensive. In my country i could get one around 50K EUR. Instead i bought a used limited trim 2020 RAV4 for 30K. And yeah, 20K is a huge difference for a monthly car payment.

I test drove both. CR-V has more seamless motor/engine engagement, hardly perceptible. RAV4 has more seamless regenerative/physical brake engagement.

Looking to trade my 2015 CRVawd with ~230K miles. Other than regular maintenance items, all original parts, so yes it has been rock solid. Same with the 2004 4Runner with similar miles I traded for the CRV. So of course, I am looking at the Rav4 and CRV hybrids. Nothing else out there compares. If the Forester and Mazdas had a hybrid, the story may be different. I am really leaning towards the RAV4 because of the hybrid system ( more of a hybrid-hybrid - Part parallel and part series) where the CRV seems to be series only which I am guessing contributes to the lower MPG. Also Toyota is really conservative on battery management so they last and last. Not sure on the Honda as this history isn't there. I also really like having a spare tire incase of a blow-out, rare, but it happens, and a inflator kit won't help there. Rav4 is a bit louder, but sill quieter than my current CRV. The driving dynamics on the newer CRV are a bit better to me than the RAV4, but both are better than my current CRV... Over 200K miles on the suspension may play a part there. I also like that the RAV4 still has some steam gauges where the CRV is all digital. Interestingly enough the Toyota dealers here are more willing to deal than the Honda ones. Too bad Toyota has all those port install options... Ironic as they are built in the states and do not come through a port. Current gen of the Rav4 is on it's last year, so maybe wait for the 2025 redesign.... Decisions decisions. It is a close race.

The spare tire is the deal breaker for me, definitely getting the RAV

Comparing both models though the years I never like the styling of either, I most recently liked the current Toyota until Honda introduced the current CRV which is the first model I have liked. Not withstanding the fact both have been practical and reliable regardless of year. I would choose the Honda CRV Hybrid at this point, my only comment is "sunroof, what sunroof? if your going to install one make it larger than a porthole size sheesh!.

Here in Canada , Rav 4 hybrid LE (39k) is 10k cheaper than CRV Hybrid at 49k

When we bought a new vehicle to replace our '15 Forester last summer, our two top choices were a CRV Sport Touring Hybrid or a RAV4 Limited Hybrid. We have never owned a Toyota product before & a new CRV would have been our 5th new Honda in the past 19 years. It would have become the stablemate to our '21 Passport Elite which has been one of the finest vehicles I've owned in the past 55 years. I really wanted the CRV to tick all the right boxes and actually test drove 2 new Sport Touring models, but just was not impressed. A lot of what I didn't like was appearance items. I like the style of the new CRV, but I don't really care for the front end, especially the butt ugly lower outside fake vents, which would have been the perfect place to place a pair of LED fog lights, which by the way aren't even available anymore. The other thing I absolutely detest is the fake dual exhaust ports on the rear. I'm not a huge fan of black wheels either & I already have a set of them on our white Passport. On the test drives I felt like the engine was under powered, the ride was OK, but not inspirational and the fake piped in exhaust sounds were just dumb. The seats were comfy & I had plenty of leg room for my 71 y o 6'4" body. I was not at all impressed with the hump when the rear seats were laid down & the missing spare tire may have been a deal breaker even if I had loved the vehicle. There were no new RAV4 hybrids anywhere within 150 miles to test drive, but we did find a used '22 model Limited hybrid with 19K to drive & it was love @ first drive. Everything I didn't like about the CRV, was exceptional on the RAV4. I might have even bought it if they weren't asked $2K less than what I eventually paid for our new '23 model equipped the same. With 5,600 miles on it now, it is becoming my new all-time favorite.

I like the crv better I have my sport touring hybrid over a year honda has a bit surprising tourqe though almost 4,000 pounds I like the features & how it looks the honda sport touring.

In my experience I has toyota and hunda for all my life for me i go with toyota reliable over honda

Not having a spare is ridiculous. These vehicles are great for road trips. There’s nothing worse than being a long way from home and getting a flat tire. Unless you don’t have a spare. That’s worse. You can call your roadside assistance all you want but guess what. They don’t have a spare tire for a CRV in stock. You’re getting towed. Meanwhile the rav4 owner can spend 15 minutes and be back on the road. I think the CRV is better looking though. 😊

right now I would agree that the CR-V just slightly out scores the RAV4, but the RAV4 is due for a redesign soon. I am thinking the current CR-V supremacy is not going to last much longer.

Well I think Hondas hybrid sound is better than Toyotas even though Toyotas hybrid is sounded weird So I rather choose Honda ❤❤❤❤❤

I would take the CRV over the Rav 4 and find some way to work around the load floor being uneven.

spare tire +2 RAV4 Rav4 has bigger screen +1 Rav4 has 360 view +1 (option) Crv gets -2 for no spare tire BIG disppointment Honda ( WHAT ARE YOU thinking ) he guys keeping on say "my Toyota dealer mark up" runs flats are expensive and does not last only 15 to17k If you ar econsidering buy a Honda then buy a spare tire and rim and throw it in the back cargo area

He didn't mention that the CRV doesn't have port fuel injection (double check me, i hope (and wish)I'm wrong). It is GDI only which leads to carbon fouling in the intake valves. He claims the crv has CVT. I don't believe that is true. I believe the electric motor does all of the lower speed work (while the gasoline engine keeps the battery charge acceptable) much like a Tesla (series hybrid). Only at highway cruising speed is the engine clutched in (one speed, no 'gears') to avoid making electricity to immediately us it (that would be less efficient). As the electric motor is more powerful than the gasoline engine if you floor it while cruising the gasoline engine will unclutch to rev to max power while the electric motor accelerates the vehicle. This system is way better than the first Honda hybrids. I'm surprised that the fuel economy is inferior to the Toyota. If the Honda has port injection I would consider it. Toyota has both port and GDI.

Wrong rave is better at any point , reason for it is reliability Honda don’t stand a chance to rave it all depends how much is that important for the customer
