@@oscars-autorepair3236 My sun roof though can push all the way to the end, but then retracts almost immediately. Does this still mean that I have an issue with the motor or is it the censors that is having the issue?
@@phamlove great question, per my understanding on the motor , it has a sensor integrated, what that means is that it senses and controls the pressure of the retraction. If it detects some time of movement in your case the ability to be pushed back all the way it will go into safe mode and attempt to to retract itself back. I would definitely recommend to swap it out. I was luck enough to find a motor of the same exact model in my local junk yard for 25 big ones. Hope This helps
Thanks for this video. It saved me a lot of time. Just one addition, since you are going to trash the old motor, you can take a cutoff tool and cut out the gear from the plastic case, clamp a pair of vice grips to it and use it to close the sun roof the rest of the way so it's not open in the back. This will allow more time for the new assembly to come in in case you don't have a garage and it rains.
Oscar, you have some new best friends! Your video saved the interior of our sequoia when the sunroof did this as a storm was approaching! Thank you a million!!!
thank you! , Simple short and too the point. There is almost No help out here for getting a stuck sunroof open, too much about getting them closed if stuck open. Now I can not only enjoy a working sunroof I can clean out the gutters and drains to stop water pouring into cabin after each rain
Fairly easy to open the case, clean the armature, and get the motor working again. Carbon, from the brushes, shorts the commutators, stopping the motor from turning. A brass brush and a little brake cleaner, usually gets them working again.
I had gunk on the worm drives so bad from the stripped ends I had to pull the entire copper housing units apart and eletric cleaner then regrease with bearing grease. Kinda works but not well, guess it is the motor as well :/ after all that work I just disconnected the sunroof motor with it in the closed position for the time being so nobody accidentally opens it.
Thank you! We are on vacation with a Tacoma borrowed from a friend and the roof got stuck open. Thanks to your video we can return a mostly intact vehicle. We pulled the sunroof closed, but can't get the tilt to reset it.
@@Michelle.Robinette Our friend also tried the usual fixes when we returned the truck, but couldn't solve the issue until he replaced something. I'm not sure what.
Thanks for the vid, my sister's highlander wasnt closing. Pulled the motor off and the belt was completely binded up and snapped, cut the access off to close it for now. Will need to replace the whole belt lol.
Well. Just ran into this issue this afternoon out of no where. Looks like simple enough solution. Does anyone know the toyo replacement part # for the motor? I'm on the toyota parts sight and cant frign find it. Thanks in advance. AND - great Vid!
I have a 2003.. the slide wouldn't close but the tilt still works and it will slide open using the button but The slide won't close with the button except sometimes i can help it by pushing with my hands... I haven't pulled the motor yet. Any ideas?
Thanks for this video. I was able to replace the motor all on my own! However, the tilt button isn't working at all so I can't get it to seal closed all the way even though it is slid forward. Any suggestions?
Good evening Tony, the part number is 2001-2007 Toyota Sequoia Sunroof Motor 471723-10040 , I got a used one from eBay for 39.99 and it worked like a charm. Just copy and past the part number I gave you and search for the one in ur budget. If you have a local pick a part in your area you can also get one their in case they have some sequoias , the part is very easy to removed as I demonstrate on the video. I hope this helps you. God bless
Thanks for this great video. I have a Tundra. I removed the old motor so I could manually close the sunroof, but it wouldn't budge. Two strong guys pulling at the same time and still wouldn't budge. Would you happen to know if this is common or have heard of this? The sunroof has only been opened once or twice since I bought it. 2014. The grease looked brand new on the gears and track-rails... almost like someone recently greased it up.
My sunroof sounds the same way. I ordered a used motor, but it still won’t work. It sounds like it wants to open like in the video, but it won’t. I tried removing the motor and opening the sunroof manually and I can’t get it to open. I also noticed the tilt switch doesn’t make any noise at all when pushed, unlike the slide button which mimics what happens in the video. Could this still be the motor, maybe I need a new one and the used motor was bad? Or could it be the track assembly?
Great question I would attempt to get a second motor and reinstall it if that still doesn’t fix the issue most likely is the track assembly. Keep in mind if this is a use motor, it could also have wear and tear in my case. I’ve had this Sequoia for over 20 years I must’ve just used the sunroof 18 times in the past 20 years, that was surprising for me to find out the motor was the issue because it’s never been used but I guess this one of those motors that overtime the lubrication inside could dry up and start to malfunction. I do live in Sunny California so you could just imagine the motor being on top of the roof and hot all the time
Hi Rodolfo, I purchased the motor from eBay, it was used. I paid around 60.00 for it. You can also try your local junkyard or pick a part in your area. Dealership wanted about 370.00 for it. Hope this helps.
So I did this and I still can't get it to budge closed. What does that mean if I can't get it to close? I put the motor back on and when I went and hit the switch to see if I could get it to work, it grinded a few times and then just stopped all together. I'm sure ill probably need a motor...but in the meantime, how could I get it to.close? Any ideas what it could be? :'( I just wanna cry!
Hi Kayla, I hear you it was frustrating fore too. So are saying that when the motor is out, you tried to push the window with ur hands to attempt to close it and it still did not move?
I have a 2004 Toyota Sequia. I replaced the Sunroof Motor. Still will not close. Now I am worried the glass is 'off its tracks." Has this happened to anyone? I am convinced at this point it needs professional attention. Although the glass is fully shut (I pulled it closed), water leaks down in easily because I think the sunroof rain gutters are clogged. Anyone else dealt with this?
