In this video I show how to change the oil on a 2021 Toyota Tundra in my driveway. I use a couple unique tools and modifications to the truck to make it extremely clean and quick... kind of.
Came across your video. I liked how you did the filter without removing skid plate. I have mine off now and want to cut a hole in it. One comment here mentioned a hinge, Toyota Forum. I'll have to search for it. I have a 2007 and just reached 200k miles. I did my own gear oil change for the front and rear Differential, and Transfer case. That was fun!
@@Dad_Garage my 2018 used to make that noise from the engine. I switched oil. I run Pennzoil full synthetic, ultra platinum and all my engine noises went away.
Hey Chris. Let me know if these links work. Fumoto F133N Oil Drain Valve with Heavy Duty 3' Hose Kit - S/S F103N a.co/d/8k37u3t Motivx Tools Oil Filter Wrench... www.amazon.com/dp/B078RJ2L25?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Incline of driveway affects levelness of oil as well as all liquids in the car, ideally truck should be level to rely on dip stick measurement. I would drive away to relatively flat and level spot to look at dip stick measurements. But amount of drained oil should be good eye ball what amount to add the least.
You got that right! The driveway has a slight incline but the ramps bring the truck very close to level. I usually double check the dipstick at a gas station to make sure it’s good. Thanks for watching!
The factory recommends an oil change every 10k miles. So that’s how often I’m changing the filter. I do the oil every 5k to try and keep cleaner oil running through the engine, especially since it’s so easy to do a drain and fill with that Fumoto valve.
The buckets are from Home Depot. I got the rest off Amazon. Filter wrench: Motivx Tools Oil Filter Wrench... www.amazon.com/dp/B078RJ2L25?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Fumoto valve: Fumoto F133N Oil Drain Valve with Heavy Duty 3' Hose Kit - S/S F103N a.co/d/iax44Vg
Can you link me where to purchase those tools, or parts to make the tools you used to make the process easier? Also where to purchase that valve please?
Thanks! It does. There’s a spring loaded mechanism that keeps the lever locked in to a groove to prevent movement. There’s also a black locking clip you have to remove to open the valve and there’s also a cap that goes over the spout in case the valve is opened or fails.
Not to be outdone, I put the standard filter adapter on and cut a hole in the skid plate. We have four Toyotas and my biggest gripe is those cartridge filters. I almost cried when I realized my new tundra at the time had it.
It was pretty easy, cut the door out, weld on a nut on the back, pop rivet a hinge and muche easier oil change in by es. Would like to take credit but got the 8d3a off of Toundra forums!! Great group of people, oh yeah, spray painted it RED with my tow hooks, added some flair. My tundra is also magnetic gray, best color in my humble opinion
I believe it. With Toyota’s reputation, I’m sure it will become reliable as they make changes in the next few years. I’m always hesitant to buy a car that is the first model year after a complete redesign.
My exact thoughts when I first bought them! They’re the Rhino Ramp Max from AutoZone and have a 16,000 lb capacity. More than enough for the truck but I still get nervous every time I use them. I usually don’t need them when I’m just doing an oil change on the truck because there’s enough clearance to crawl underneath but I wanted a little extra space for the video. 👍
@@Dad_Garage Ah ok, I just got some from Walmart that are 12,000 lbs. I'm nervous to use them. But yeah I have plenty of clearance without them as well.
You should be fine with those. I think the gross weight of the vehicle is somewhere around 6500 pounds. Maybe try jumping up and down in the bed of the truck the first time you use them just to be sure? 🤣
You can use bottle jack that comes with Tundra as backup, there are jack up spots to apply it as safety precaution ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6naOAy76egI.html
I never tried taking the shield off once I realized I could get the filter off through the side. If it’s that much faster I’m definitely trying it. Thanks!
