Toyota Tundra gets LED dash lights… again.

Swapped the main dash and HVAC cluster bulbs out for LEDs. Process is pretty straight forward, and easy to do. This can be done on the 00-04 Toyota Tundras, and I believe the Sequoia as well. The LED bulbs have less draw, and put out a brighter light. The stock lights are perfectly fine, but these are just something different for guys the like to customize. I chose cool white, but you can get them in a variety of colors.

I left the dash plugged in so I could tell if the lights were in correctly. I put a green led in the key ring. Blue for the Speedo/tach, white for the fuel, temp, battery.

Great video. My 2001 has plastic dials that are getting pretty fragile. where did you find the knobs that you like so well?

Thanks! I got the rubber knobs from a company called ADPTY on Amazon, years back. I have not checked, but I assume they are still available.

Are you able to use the dim switch to dial them down some. I feel like that is too bright for the dash at night.

Yes, the dimmer still works, but it cuts the lights off at a certain point. If you want a more mild light, I’d suggest the single led OEM style bulbs.

You either got lucky or you have the auto-polarity LEDs. The first time I changed mine, half the LEDs weren't working, so I had to rotate them to get the polarity correct. I have had the plastic bezel and cluster mount screws removed for months, trying get LEDs that are bright enough and reliable. I tried putting in remote control RGB ones, but they seem to get interference from the cluster circuits and they just flicker and are not very bright. They work fine in the door step lights. It looks like you have had success. I replaced Turn and high beam indicators and they are super bright and reliable. Others failed after a short time. Very frustrating. Appreciate the comment. Yeah, I learned early on to order all my LEDs from SUPERBRIGHTLED.com. Since ive been ordering from them, I have had zero issues with bulbs. The off brand stuff ive found to be very hit or miss.

@@bruhitsericThe website has a vehicle finder. Just put in your year, make, and model, and it will show you the LED bulbs available for pretty much every bulb in your truck.

@@bruhitsericOh, it’s partly preference depending on the brightness you want. Obviously more LEDs per bulb will be brighter. Any of the 194LEDs are the T10’s. And the 74LEDs are the T5’s.

Do you know which bulb is for the headlight indicator? Mine is not turning on, i wish i can find a diagram online for the dashlighs bulbs.

I can’t exactly recall off the top of my head. But if you’re talking about the headlight bright indicator between the turn arrows, I believe it’s a T5 bulb.

did you run into any issues with the turn signals not working? I swapped out turn signals and high beam indicator for LEDs but decided they were too bright. Switched them back to OEM but now only left turn signal indicator works. High beam and right turn signal don't come on. Swapped out bulbs and bulb housing, I've also checked the fuse and its good. Left works but the other two don't...

That part of the circuit paper on the back of the assembly, seems to be prone to damage because of how it’s sort of a flap. I would check to make sure you didn’t crush, scrape, or fold, any of the metal circuit strips around those bulbs.

Fixed my issue. I swapped back all three to LEDs and now works fine. I will leave it as it for now. However I did notice two other things perhaps you may have encountered too. One is that there's a low hum when LEDs are dimmed. It goes away when LEDs are off or at max setting. Second, the map/dome lights flicker when I have them set to Door function. Any thoughts? @@elvindiego7850 Sorry, for some reason RU-vid isn't telling me when someone comments. Is the humming coming from the speakers? Flickering is usually a bad bulb or bad connection. Try a different but and see if it alleviates the problem

Not sure what you mean by “it?” What is touching metal?

Sorry about that the LED itself won’t turn on without touching something metal but won’t turn off with everything else if it is touching the metal

@@Nagatoo13I’m still not sure I understand what you mean by the LED touching metal. Like the bulb itself touching metal? Not sure how you even do that if they are in the dash? If I had to guess what you’re describing, it sounds like a polarity issue. Some of the cheaper bulbs are polarity sensitive. I would try turning the effected LED bulbs 180* in their sockets.

I tried testing the led's and all of a sudden the interior lights don't turn on and radio doesn't work. Is it a blown fuse? If so how do I install the LED's without blowing a fuse?

Good LED bulbs should not cause any blown fuses. Cheap ones can come with defective bulbs, which can cause issues.

@@kiddoekayasitt9825 Interior lights AND radio would probably be the "dome" fuse, in the fuse box under the hood. Id look for that first. There is another radio fuse in the small box under the dash, and I believe its the top fuse.

@@JHBtheIV come to find out it was the dome fuse that I blew. I swapped it with a new spare that I had “15 amp”. I got my new LED’s and now I’m wondering if I should either pull the dome fuse out and install the lights and put it back or just disconnect the battery and install my LED’s?

@@kiddoekayasitt9825 You shouldnt have to do either just for swapping bulbs. But I’d just disconnect the battery while you install them, if you want to be extra careful.

IIRC, the odometer is a sealed assembly like the clock. You would have to take it apart to get to the circuit board.

darn, I was hoping that would be illuminated better by the LEDs. I thought that some night time videos from people seemed to show it brighter? Thank you@@JHBtheIV
