Awesome product. I set mine up in my garden office which is around 20 meters away from the main router in the lounge in my house. I tried and tested many ways to set up this device, It works best when you plug the small tp link adapter in a mains wall outlet. I plugged the bigger device (wi fi booster) into an extension power strip in my office. It worked but I had much reduced speed, I then switched it over to a wall mains outlet and I was getting almost maximum speeds. I have sky fibre broadband with a maximum speed of 39mb. I was averaging speeds of 29 to 33mb on the speed test website and that was using WiFi on my macbook pro. When I switched over to an ethernet cable I was getting 34mb to 35mb. A good tip is, don't plug any of the tp link devices into a surge protector strip as it hinders its performance.
When they are first set up/paired, you can plug both adapters into the same wall outlet, pair them, and you can disconnect one of them and move it somewhere else in you home that needs it.
Bought this yesterday, will return it today. In a small appartment (55m2) it does not provide a signal with a normal range. The signal is 50% lower within 7 meters in a straight line, in the next room (single stone wall, door open) the signal is a even 25% (that's 4 meters from the extender)
They are sick but FUCKING BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY THIS if you step on one of them with your feet on the floor with the plugs facing upwards it will end your life
These instructions are not how I done mine and it works perfectly. *Here's how I done mine (for anyone still struggling):* 1 - Plug BOTH adaptors into the same socket if possible. Otherwise, use an extension cable and plug them on the same strip. 2 - Plug the ethernet cable into the smaller box (not the extender) and turn on the extension cable with the two adaptors. 3 - Wait until the light with the wifi/wave icon turns green. At this point, the little house icon light should be off as they are not yet paired. 4 - Press the pair button on the adaptor with the ethernet cable plugged in from your router. This should now make the power light flash. 5 - Now press the pair button on the extender, which should also make the power light flash. 6 - After the initial flashing from both adaptors, the power lights should stop flashing and go solid green. *You should also now see the home icon light too.* Now you can unplug everything from the extension cable (including the router if you done so) and put the extender anywhere in the house. Some may argue and say you have to be on the same circuit, but I have tried placing it all over and had not problem.
Brad Jones I don’t know if you can answer my question or not. But basically I have shitty WiFi upstairs. ( the router is downstairs) Will this device help with that if installed properly upstairs?
Yes and no. The larger unit is the unit with wireless connectivity, but either unit can be the main unit. Its just intended to have wireless unit be the remote unit.
I thought it wasn't working for me either. Apparently, I hadn't held down the WPS button on my router long enough (~3 seconds), but when I did, the WPS button started blinking on my router as in "ready to pair". From there, then pushing the wifi button on the extender for ~3 seconds as well, the extender cloned successfully (the TP-link SSID disappeared) and I now can seamlessly move from one room to another without switching access points.
I can get one of my 2 extenders to pair with the adapter but cannot, however often I try; establish data transfer, ( i.e. the LED remains solid on powerline). The instructions in the box for this product don't stipulate pairing first then cloning as in this video, very frustrating for someone, like me, who needs to be molly coddled with step by step instructions!
+MissMochynbach yes instructions are rubbish on the manual, i just got my fingers crossed for this video to work. Thanks god i understand english. I' ve been two hours and counting trying to install it, hope it works
TP-LINE Twin The Reliable Choice 500Mbps powerline password, virgin media super hub 2, because TP-LINE 500Mbps powerline I cannot doing don't understand password properly too hard been 1 hour enough my laptop upstairs bedroom and downstairs in front room been turned off I can't try again leaving that both 2.
My one has a "Pair" button instead. The Pair button is a combined button for DECT handsets and WPS. Hold it down for 5 seconds the light on the button will flash white and it will start the pairing for both WPS and DECT it will stop as soon as either pairing is successful.
I know, I actually fixed it yesterday, one of them were connected to the same power strip my computer was connected to so when I turned my computer they turned off too, the nearest wall outlet is far though so I can’t use Ethernet, they work really well though
Log into the interface using the APs IP address or the PLC utility. Like with our routers or standalone APs there will be a option for wireless where you can change these settings
@@catatonicable they are tools on our website under the product support page of the unit. If you are unfamiliar with like utilities we would suggest contacting support for assistance.
Up to 300 meters. The further away the poorer the performance. Quality of lines, electrical noise and interference can also reduce the range, so we can't give a guarantee of range but it is up to 300 meters.
Powerline requires a minimum of 2 adapters 1 connected to your router and the other can be remote. We do have wireless versions that act like a plug in access point and generates a wireless signal like a router or range extender but it does require the other adapter to be wired to your router to work.
Explanation of installation is good, however will not connect without a mystical code known as a Gateway reference (on my Panasonic anyway). No clue whatsoever where I find this code/number as every time I go thru TV settings it blocks/locks up awaiting the gateway address/number, then clearly sttes message CANNOT CONNECT!! This I have wasted hours faffing about with. Does anyone out there know where I can find this data.
The powerline adapters even the wireless ones don't have such a code. there is a powerline password printed on the back of each adapter that is used to pair the adapter to an existing powerline device or network and for wireless powerline there is also and SSID and password to access the adapter via wireless. Everything else is just like a standard AP or router in terms of how devices connect, plug and play. You likely have a setting on your client device that is asking for or needs to be tweaked.
Following the steps to have the TP-link extender/repeater in repeater-mode, instead of this device copying the router config it ended up with the router mimicking the TP-link repeater, hence not giving out IP-address for either devices. As I recall I managed to log in to this device through port 80 (http) before. Impossible now no matter how many times I reset this shitty device.
I have a tp link and it works great for the PS4 and my smart tv but everything else that's on wifi is like my phone laptop is gone to Shit since I got myself a tp-link(not the one in the video) when the tp link is in use the wifi signal drops every 5-10mins for a about 20 secs . Does anyone know how to fix this problem?'
I’ve had the extenders set up for a while, and my friend gave me another tp link extender and said it would work if I plug it into my PS4. The extender he gave me was a receiver one and I can’t get it to work. Is there any way I can get the receiver to plug into my PS4 and carry the signal from my router
Couldn't believe it when I heard that. "You'll know your adapter is paired because it will keep doing what it's been doing for the past 2 minutes". Nice one
Damn you can tell the adaptor is doing something different to what it was doing when it was flashing because nothing has changed and it’s still flashing and there is no noticeable difference in behaviour from the adaptor
guys if you have a problem, make sure that it is not plugged into a surge protector or extension cord or anything that plugs into the wall in front of it. This has to be plugged DIRECTLY into the outlet.
NO MATTER WHAT I DO TO TRY AND CONNECT THIS ITS NOT WORKING IT WORKED IN THE OTHER HOUSE MY ROOM IS THE ONLY ONE WITHOUT WIFI FROM THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT I HAVE HAD TO WALK UP AND DOWN THESE STUPID STAIRS TRYING TO PAIR THESE I SWEAR I BETTER HAVE ABS AFTER THIS
After 5 hours I took a hammer to both units, god, it felt good, I’ve worked in IT for years, never come across anything so frustrating. Bought another one, looks exactly the same, worked first attempt.
The clone function worked exactly once on my wireless adapters. When I changed my router from an open network to a secure network, the clone buttons didn't work anymore.
I feel sorry for anyone getting this thinking it was gonna be good. it doesn't work properly and the speeds are painfully slow. it says 100 mb/s but the top speed i get is 20 mb/s. I really wouldn't recommend this unless you want to be really disappointed like me.

I've managed to complete the extender procedure and I also then followed the instructions for extending the wireless connection. My internet access on phones, laptop and tablet all show a very strong signal is available. However, using the normal password for access to the router failed and I have no idea what to now do. Could you assist or advise ?
The password is just numerical, weak as shit, can be cracked in seconds . . I'd suggest changing it or a stronger one consisting of numbers, upper and lower case letters, and special characters.
Everything tp-link I find very confusing. For a start they print the information symbols in white ink on white plastic, (they really need to be that bloody awkward??) and the multiplicity of code numbers on the label (there really need to be so many?) are in Lilliputian font, I need a magnifying glass for them, but perhaps old folk are not supposed to use these? And the various pressibgs of buttons and combinations of flashings.... Could be a lot more user friendly

It did not work for my customer, I had him buy a TP link two unit model such as the one in this video.. after more than an hour trying to set-up at a distance with him on the phone I gave-up, it seem that power line models work on the same electrical circuit, but when on a different circuit it may not function, so it got returned to Amazon. I told my customer to go and buy the Netgear wall plug wifi mesh single extender that was in-stock at his local Staples store. It has worked perfectly, my customer has an IP phone that is far from the router and requires a wired connection. With the WPS setup I was able to guide him over the phone. Really great during Covid as he is 79.
Yes this is a factor of all powerline product not just TP-Link. The two adapters can only communicate across circuits that are in the same panel. Its a limitation of the technology and how it uses powerline to send data.
Took me some hours to realize that the seamless WiFi light is also a button. Had been pressing the only 'visible' button (the pairing button) not understanding why me no get no seamless...
So you know the WiFi on Powerline is not seamless. While the SSID can be cloned its more akin to how Range Extenders with the same SSID operate. Its the same but still a separate AP. Mesh is really the only true seamless WiFi.
Very sensitive to various appliances connected to the home. You get a lot of connection drops. Great idea but not good enough for serious business applications. Should keep the kids happy
People saying the clone button doesn't work, it does. Best way to do it is pair and clone it all in the same room. Plug the adaptor into the wall and ethernet cable into the modem, then plug the reciever into a plug close to it, pair as stated in the video, wait till that is done then clone by pressing the wps button on your router followed by the clone button on the reciever. Worked for me straight away after trying to do it unsuccessfully in a different room. Once all connected then move the reciever to the desired room.
Mike Clark hi mate. I've got mine setup and I see the tp link as a separate thing is this correct? and if so does it have a separate password because I have a little card which has the tp links password. any help would be great thnx
Jogonyachickennugget If you haven't cloned it then it will be separate and you have to use the password on the card. If you follow the cloning procedure then it mimics your own wifi and you don't have to use a separate password at all. Like I said to clone it, follow the instructions on the video but do it in the same room as your router. Hope it works!
Mike Clark I bought one of these and set it up, cloned it and plugged it in via ethernet into my computer. My other devices then got slow Internet speeds, but when i unplug the extender my other devices' speeds increase. Help?
I have connected tp link av 600 to my router but dont have internet. On the box is written just plug in and pair. Not to the end. Is only easy for IT specjalist. Is really long way to solve any issue. Im disappointed. I dont have time to study IT and read hundreds tips.
The powerline adapters come pre-paired in the box. All you have to do is connect one unit, the base one, to your router via ethernet and the other, the remote unit, to your client device. However both unit must be powered by breakers in the same panel. If the Homelink light is not on, either they are not in the same panel or the pair isn't correct. You can contact support if you need help.
I hit the WPS button and then th eclone button, but then when I go into my list of wireless signals I still see the tp link as a separate thing it didn't clone.
KeetanHD No I couldn't ever get it working right. I was trying to make it clone so that when I check for wi-fi on my Playstation 4 I only see our router signal but the TP link kept showing up as a separate source.
The wifi transmitter needs approximately 5 attempts at finding its buddy and another 10 more tries for the wps copy. As a bonus it malfunctions every month, so you can start all over again. Wouldnt recommend purchasing.
Chan Michel I've been trying to return this piece of shit for the last three months. TP-LINK customer support is one of the biggest pieces of shit I've ever seen! They even issued a recall and I've attempted to contact them multiple ways multiple times and submitted the form twice and they still haven't issued a refund. I'm getting PISSED! Getting ready to file a BBB claim to get them to move their asses. If you are issuing a voluntary recall, you might want to make it accessible to people who cannot dedicate am entire day to processing the damn request. Fucking hate this company.
It hasn’t been that terrible for me. It took me forever to get it working but when it did, it was great. Then one bad power outage occurs and I haven’t been able to get it working again since and that was months ago!
for me this device worked fine for a full year with no issues.... until the damn dogs came along. Now it isn't pairing anymore even though all the dogs did was ruin an ethernet cord.
The wireless adapter has a default SSID you can connect to. Once you are use the tpPLC app to configure the wireless of the PLC to match that of your home router.
Some things worth noting about this device, before you tear your hair out: GFI affects it, as does polarity (in English, whether you have it plugged in upside down or not). If your wiring is noisy that will also be a problem. Also, everywhere you plan to use the powerline adapter is supposed be in the same power circuit...which kind of eliminated the whole point for me. I tested this in two different houses...one a total fail, and the other only worked intermittently. I'm noticing this gets rave reviews from everybody in England. I'm wondering if there's something about British wiring that makes this work better.
Angela Henderson im british and it works perfect for me i wanted to have wired internet without a 2nd router so i just got this for £30 and get avg 15 ping when gaming
In california and I got my friend to get this brand, not the same model, and they are getting speeds of 45 or more. Could be your wiring. I get 10 out of mine. My fastest speed is 12 in my area.
You are right about what you mentioned can effect the device, and yes there might be something about British wiring that makes this more reliable in the UK, British electrical standards are very high compared to other parts of the world like the US, electrobooms video of his trip to the UK is funny and explains the UK standards.
Hi, I hope you are well. I am wondering, once the initial adapter is connected to the home port via ethernet cable. Do the other hubs act as wireless wifi extenders or must they also be plugged in via ethernet cables in other rooms? Many Thanks in advance :)
I'm in the UK and have used them in 3 different houses and all worked amazingly. So you may be correct about something with the electrics here. I pay for 100mbps download and upload and get that 24/7 using these to my PC.
I bought TP-LINK TL-WPA4220KIT recently and it works flawlessly so far. I have plugged it "upside down" in power socket so as not to block the lower socket. Also, the two devices are not in the same power circuit, but still work okay. The speed varies but is fairly high (around 270 Mbps) - you can check it in the TP PLC utility that contains the network topography with settings and parameters. Perhaps the device has changed hardware/firmware-wise within the 5 years since this video was published.
Wtf is this shit. I have a TP link 20000 and it has worked perfectly fine Hooked up to my ps4 and all of a sudden it doesn’t want to work. Their are 3 lights that stretch from one side to the other and the middle light is red. I looked it up and it says it’s bc the connection is week but how do I fix that bc it has always been fine in the past. [if any help can be shared please reply with answer] thank you 🙏
Good video then you lost me at the end. If an additional unit is to be added and I have paired it why would I have to use the WPS again..I thought this cloned signal would come from the primary plug at the router
is powerline an option when literally no ISP provides internet to your area? as in do you need internet provided by ISP to even use powerline adapters in the first place.
Powerline is a LAN technology. You would need a router in order to take advantage of PLC extension. To be able to use internet though powerline you need to have a router and an ISP
I've seen a lot of these DIY plug in your wifi extenders press and hold button and lets look at that green light flashing or solid they might look paired , 80% of the time they give a false connection the wireless signal shows good but yet you still can't connect my experience goes deeper its all about the router not the extenders as many routers can close gateways to your extender by default and a little networking experience can configure your router to talk and open a connections to it. Feels like it sucks as you are looking at a 30-100% box with green flashy lights doing fk all none of these videos tell you jack about router configuration but then again that would be different for every router i guess.
These videos are about the products and how to troubleshoot them, not the routers they connect to. In most cases the only time the router will have issues is if there is something with UPNP or the DHCP server not supplying IP addresses. Most issues with powerline actually are related to the physical powerlines, such as interference. noise or line quality.
Alextotal00 I’ve literally tried everything, and the lights are all on but it still decides not to work. I don’t know what to do. Do you think it’s just simply ‘not working’ or I should try linking it up again
The wireless doesn't seem to work with mine, the wifi light is flashing, and gives me the option to connect to it on my devices, but immediately disconnects with it, any ideas?
The av500 is a really piece of shit, loosing every week the connection . So you have to restart the pair so frequently that you think you have wasted your money
aight found this in the loft, turns out it's still perfectly useable, i can't speak for potentially excessive power usage from old protocols or whatever but if you're not too worried about that then this works fine, just do as the comments mention, no extension leads, same power network, if you're worried about power network jsut try it and do speed tests before and after connection, you'll know pretty easily. also worth mentioning i didn't find it to make much of a difference with 5GBPS, but if you're having connection issues in the first place you'd be on 2.4
I love how the lady in the video says rooter, but by her tone sounds like she is very depressed and maybe suicidal so I hope you got help and you realize your solution is to move to Toronto
@@SuperEverton1974 The you would not be able to do the WiFi clone as WPS is required for that. You could use the interface though to manually set the network name to match your router's ssid
Hey, cool vid.. I bought the 600 wifi one.. The phone can find the connection but the laptop can connect but no internet found? Any ideas please? The phone is at max internet speed now!! These plugs are magic!!

Do you have the other PLC unit physically connected to the router? PLC adapters are not range extenders, even if you clone the SSID they will still transmit data through the powerline. Both units are needed for this.
I just bought the Av500, and it works great. Easy to step-up and use. My wifi signal was giving me 8-14 MB. Now, with the powerline, I'm getting ~50 MB, and no lag when playing games ~23 ping. However, the adapter on the outlet does get pretty warm.. is this normal? Will it overheat?
Yeah, I founded out if I unplug the Ethernet cable from my computer, the adapter goes into sleep mode. However... I just leave the other adapter that is connected to the modem always on..
If its in sleep mode, the adapter is very cool. However, if its left on like the one that is connected to the modem, it is consistency warm to the touch. However, no real hurt to performance, yet.
Wireless speed was 8-12MPS. Cable speed ~50MPS. No drops in signals since I bought this. I can stream videos in 4K with no buffering, and games plays with no lag. ~20 ping for online multiplayer.
Does it work less well if you dont have a WPS button? I only paired it (first step). We keep having trouble with it, where the signal goes out or things happen such as connecting but 'without' internet.
I think its better to opt for one with WPS (Wifi Protected setup). This way your internet is secured. Less noise and distortions with using this type of device.
so this doesn't work natively with WPS on a BT homehub 5 with wireless clone when using WPA2 password security. Although the manual, box and every web resource I could find don't mention that.
It doesn´t work. I have this product for 3 year and its (sorry): Bullshit. The connections doesn´t work constantly. I cannot recommend it, if you want a reliable connection.
As with any network product there are several factors that can effect performance. if your having issues contact our support team to help isolate the causes and if possible resolve them.
I plugged the adapter and the extender to a power strip. The 3 leds that the adapter has turned on and on the extender the POWER LED and the POWERLINE LED turned on, but not the WiFi LED. I tried to pair them and it didn't work. What do I do?
It's written in the guide that the powerline LED only turns on after pairing the devices. But once I connect the extender to the power strip it automatically turns on, but not the Wi-Fi one

When pairing, the receiver’s power light flashes 3 times then turns off, and just doesn’t pair. It’s such a pain.
