Such as this, that the holy rendition of this sacred song takes the very breath from the occupiers, who hear and are undone by the legend of their enemy

I wasn't alive in 1975, but I saw this film on DVD and this scene has stuck in my memory. It has some similarities with the scene in "Paths of Glory", in which the German woman sings a song.

Same. I didn't know it then, but the singer is no other than Triona Ni Dhomhnaill, billed here as Trina O'Donnell, a fine clavichord player and singer of great repute from a famous Gaeltacht folksinging family. Her sister Mairead and guitarist brother, the late Micheal, are also fine singers, and their parents were important collectors.

The series is quite interesting I've watched the first 2 episodes and its basically about a small coal mining village in England fighting their employers for a livable wage and better working conditions. The main character is a deserter from the army who served in Ireland and was discussed at how the Irish were treated and has come to the realisation that the English working class are been treated the very same.

I feel like a want to turn into a rebel when I see all those men interrupting for no valid reason. All is forgiven, though.

Christ ! I've watched "Days of Hope" a couple of times and never realised it was Triona in this scene. How did I not recognize that wonderfully distinctive voice ?

In the census of 2016 there were more than 530,000 non-Irish nationals from 200 countries living in Ireland. I would say not one of those 530,000 would know or care of what the word Fenian (truly) means. The Ireland this girl sang of and the one you see in your heart are long gone.

You should watch the whole of the 4 films the main character if one of the soilders who comes to hate his government for what they done in Ireland and realises that the English working class are been treated the same. Until the British people throw their intitled aristocratic rulers out the working classes there will have nothing look what tatcher did in the 80's destroyed British coal mines and finished what was at one time one of the finest steel working industries in the world leaving the north of England and mining towns in Scotland unemployment wastelands.
