Yay I'm so happy to have found this. I'm local in Largo, FL too! Just starting to build my relief printmaking skills and I've run into issues with my ink drying to quickly. I will be ordering some retarder after this video. Can you recommend how much ink vs retarder to use on home made paper that's a bit thicker? Thanks so much!

How would you register the drawing if you have to take it off the plate, re-wash the plate and then add another colour onto the plate

Thanks. I would also have liked to see if negative would have printed up. Perhaps it needed a press for best result.

Yes, that was my immediate thought too! I think it still had enough oomph left in the ink to register a ghost print at least. 😁

Basically this technique allows you to do one print only could you do more ?

Could someone help me understand how this compares to just direct drawing with ink/ paint, with different tools? I don't get the point? Why would I want to do this instead of direct drawing/ painting? What is the purpose that I would go to all this trouble, putting ink all over the place--- 2 plates, on brayer, with something I do not see gives any different results than direct drawing/ painting? So I guess my main question is what is the best application of printing methods like this? & purpose? Thanks! Thanks for the video.

Monotypes are a great way to make art, and an entryway to print making. Learning how to roll ink, think in positive-negative terms, and they can be FUN! Gel plates are another way to make monotypes, and if the prospect of tracing seems unrewarding, look up Andy Warhol’s trace monotypes. I’d love to have one of those!

Hi, can I use acrylic paint instead ?
@baronvonmunchausen9516

Probably not with this method, but you can make rudimentary relief prints with acrylic paint. ADD MEDIUM AND DONT USE THE GOOD PAPER FIRST.

+1 but I take offense at throwing brand names around "cuz America". These tools have names, and you hopefully chose the tubes of paint by their content, so teach how to read spec and what to look for. Then everyone can choose - and experiment, as well.
