Tracey Emin has told how she "looked death in the face" when she had cancer - but is grateful to have survived so she can continue to make art.
The artist, 61, is well known for her messy bed - turned into a 1998 artwork that once sold for £2.2million - as well as her past as a party animal. She has made millions turning her troubled love life into works of art on blankets and neon lights in the nineties and early noughties.
But these days Tracey is teetotal and has swapped booze for the beach, living in Margate with two cats. She was diagnosed with aggressive bladder cancer in 2020 and after major surgery she now lives with a stoma having removed the affected organ.
She says she realised doctors thought she was going to die soon when they told her not to bother getting a new pet ahead of an operation. Tracey explained: "For 20 years I had Docket(pet cat), he died in 2020. People asked me what would happen when Docket died and I used to say I would go too, and I nearly did!
