Love me some Kay humor. Such a winning recurring character, so realistic and genuine. This variety show was pure entertainment gold when it first debuted (when I was 21) and it's still hilarious and clever today. Pity it isn't available on streaming, or on disc (too many songs to pay for, I'd wager, there were many performances). The Tracey Ullman Show was one of the best things to come to network TV in the 80's. Tracey is brilliant, a word I don't pepper around liberally, and she often skates that fine line between comedy and heartbreak. When it comes to sketch comedy there are few masters, and Tracey is at the top of the heap (for me she is #1) including Carol Burnett and company, the Monty Python boys, The Kids in the Hall, and Sid Caesar. Thank you, Tracey, for sharing so much laughter and zany fun over the years.
I fell in love with the Tracey Ullman Show back in the day. Ullman's still in the Top 10 female comics, for me. I remember when "The Simpsons" was simply a strange little cartoon that played on the Tracey Ullman Show, on the old Fox network.
He wanted her to yearn for him, though. Sadly I think that's the only reason he said that. But maybe I'm jaded. Just think it's sadly the truth though.
So funny. The cashier is the voice of Homer, from The Simpson’s, which started as a sketch on The Tracey Ulman Show. The other cashier might have been Hank Azaria; couldn’t tell.
J. P. Gulliver Dark was also the name of the singer at the Sapphire Lounge in Homer’s Night Out. They reused his character design as the singer for Tito Puente’s “Señor Burns” in Who Shot Mr. Burns Pt. 2 so although his name wasn’t given in the latter episode I assume it’s the same man
Great comic/actor with a very wide range. I think I detect a (cleaned up) hint of the great Benny Hill in her facial expressions in this sketch. Loved it.
Dear KAAAY..is heartbreakingly funny... I remember the.Tracey Ullman.SHOW..was so brilliant....wish they would release and show them.....she is BEYOND talented..
She lives the part !!! And it is funny but I can see that it is cruel in Way's but all or almost all comedy is cruel... Just got to laugh and know we all fit in somewhere ..
I think you're right. The end when he says she's special isn't that he was being kind to her. He liked the idea of someone spending the rest of her days yearning for him. And he avoided having to tell the truth, being in stage with her wasn't special for him. Probably a "win/win" in his mind. So sad. :(
KaRyn Sweeney - oh dear. You clearly don't get subtlety do you ? Tracey Ullman is a genius . This is a very touching sketch. Your comment is patronising and facile.
