@@shawntaylor2395 You'v probably already tried this and know, but I wanted to say I could tell it helped right away.. hopefully until I can get him to my vet in a couple of days.. Of course it always seems to happen on a long holiday weekend.. He is still coughing but not as much and not as bad.
Finally, information on tracheal collapse that's actually useful. Lots of videos talking about anatomy, causes, potential treatments and then articles listing symptoms without a single picture to help you determine whether there's cyanosis in the gums. I'm not a vet, I can't be certain when gums look normal and its so frustrating. Now I know what a "honking" cough sounds like, and it's of much more value to hear it than have someone just describe it. I'm not verbally talented, I need real examples like this. I'm subscribing just for this.
If you want to screen shot for future reference... Treatment for Tracheal Collapse (goose honking, non-productive cough) in dogs: 1) Do NOT smoke around them. Do NOT keep them in a smoker's home (who smokes inside). 2) Avoid using chemical cleaners, scented candles, air fresheners, etc. in your/their home, go natural without strong scents. 3) Fight dust mites, get an air purifier if you can. 4) Keep them as stress-free as possible, anxiety can trigger coughing episodes. Consider calming supplements for overly anxious dogs... esp before company comes, vet visits, etc. 5) Honey can be used long-term, preferably unpasteurized darker (local) honey, to help with Tracheal inflammation & allergies. Dissolve one teaspoon in ½cup warm water (a small squirt of lemon juice is optional) and give 1tsp (10-15mil) for a small dog, double for medium sized dog... 2-3Xdaily. 6) For serious flare-ups, short-term use of Licorice extract tincture: ½mil for 30-40lb dog/ ¼mil for smaller dogs, given directly/ orally 2Xdaily. 7) Homeopathic Aparasol for acute onset, 4XDaily under lips. 8) Do NOT use collars on them, EVER... only use harnesses that don't cut across the throat. Collars are a choking hazard at the best of times (even with perfectly healthy pets), esp when pets are left unsupervised... and they don't need to wear one all of the time, a microchip is a much better option. Breakaway collars don't always break away... cats can choke themselves out when they panic.
7) may be Para Solve? I tried to access the transcript to get the spelling but was unable. It's recommended for gastric issues, but this may be a secondary use or to prevent triggers?
I got a dog from some old man who smoked heavenly and around the dog too. The man died, now I’m here with the dog trying to take care of him as much as I can. Poor dog has bad teeth, his tooth fell out out of no where, he thickly drools nonstop, and coughs severely and a bit overweight for being his size. And he’s elderly too. I’m gonna try to help him out all I can.
We have basically done the same as Florence except we mix 5ml of lemon juice to 5ml of dark honey with 1 drop of Yarrow complex drops with some mince meat and some of her regular food and put it in her dish 3 times a day and she laps it up and the results are amazing, this is only her 2nd day on it and she is a changed dog, doesn't cough near as much nor does it last for long when she does. It was just a trial putting the mix in her food as she was so stressed using the syringe and it is working really good. I'm so pleased with the results.
Derrick Doran I will try your suggestion mixing honey with their food. My girl is getting old and is showing signs of tracheal collapse daily now (she has shown signs for years but it's getting worse).
Thank you so much Doc. I’m bringing my older dog in to see his vet tomorrow and I will start to use these remedies and definitely get a harness. I appreciate your help.
I had an idea that was what my Papillon's issue was from past trachea problems. He's almost 14, but since we moved from the desert to rural Tennessee last year his cough & reverse sneeze has gotten worse. Getting an air purifier for the room he spend 95% of his time in and trying some of your remedies. Thank you!!
Thanks so much for being so thorough and honest. I have spent tons of money at different vets, all telling me something different and trying to sell me every test, product and/or treatment under the sun without a diagnosis. I think my 13 year old Chi has tracheal collapse but also at the moment kennel cough as the cough has turned constant and honking and worsened during a trip to the beach. I will purchase the l-theanine and rescue remedy for sure
I see your video and this is it! This is what my dog has... I went to 3 vets and spend over 1000 dollars to get things checked and no one had the answer.
The video is very helpful,my dog has a trachea,we took him 4x to the vet already,he still cough a lot like a goose honking then later sounded like a liquid phlegm ,like a stubborn cough, sometimes like a dinosaur too,.I' ll try those remedies never gave up on him.
very helpful, thank you. What was the last name of the homeopathic med you used? I didn't catch it. Thanks for putting these videos online, I appreciate it. I'm sorry for the loss of your dog Jesse.
Wow. I think this may be whats wrong with my mini pin.. hes old, little overweight and his cough comes and goes, his breathing is choppy or funny, I used to think he did it for attention but it makes sense hes got anxiety. It starts when he wakes up but his breathing is normal after he lays down to sleep. Or if I leave and come home, he starts coughing.. thanks doc! Im going to try these remedies. Ive spent so much money for a diagnosis and medications and never a cure or explanation as all tests for diseases or worms are negative. So frustrating! I gave up on vets.. Thanks doc! You should set up a donation tab on your channel.. you at least deserve that. I surely would donate!🙂
My darling Papillon Roo 5 years old is coughing having caught kennel cough he also has a difficulty with hard foods and has an occasional choking fit. Thank you for all the advice. I will no longer use a collar only his harness and I will give him the honey. There is no question that he also has tracheal problems. At the moment he is on Synulox drops twice a day & Inflacam once a day plus paracetemol liquid 3 times a day all for 5 - 7 days. He has seen 3 different vets at the same practice I am very stressed particularly as I was made to wait outside in the cold for 25 mins as I was told he was contagious with the kennel cough.
My little Terrier had really bad Tracheal collapse for years. I've been giving him raw Bones from the Butcher and his coughing has gone away completely within 2 weeks. Either Nutrients in Bones or exercise from Chewing must be the cure. I also use an arm pit Harness just to be safe.
Occasionally he still gets a coughing spasm. Had xrays done ,and there is a narrowing in the throat. Vet said he was born with this condition and he recommended the armpit harness. Dog bones seem to strengthen the throat and jaw muscles.
Hi Peggy. Cant recommend anyone for a Harness as my Vet told me how to build my own harness.. Just used a really thick Work sock, cut it in half and put the 2 pieces around my Dogs armpits and tied the 2 together with some Cloth at the back of his shoulders. Then put a large Keychain ring on the cloth to attach a Leash. This is not a cure , but takes all the stress off the throat and neck. Vet said the alternative was an Operation which meant putting a Stent ( basket ) in his throat but only had an 80% success rate.
It would be nice to have this vet spell out the natural medications/ herbals because I can not hear how to pronounce these medications. Please list all the natural meds! Thank you
Thank you so much, I love your advice. My little 13 yr old Shihtzu has this and it's been so sad to see her struggle. Is your rescue product cbd? I appreciate you. 🙏🇨🇦💕
@@VeterinarySecrets thank you ! I have actually used drosera 200c this morning and honey and cbd. No longer gagging or coughing at all and is quietly asleep beside me. Elderly pugalier. :)
Hello, the Bach Rescue Remedy Pet I found online has 80% glycerin as an inactive ingredient. I understand glycerin is not good for dogs, any advice? Perhaps a brand to recommend? Thank you!
Hi, Remedies Discussed in the video 1. Rescue Remedy. 2 drops/10lbs as needed 2. L-theanine 25 mg, per 20lbs of body weight twice daily 3. Honey - dark, local, unpasteurized. 1 teaspoon/ 10lbs diluted in warm water 4.Licorice Tincture- 1/4 ml per 10lbs twice daily 5. Homeopathic Hepar Sulph, 1 30C capsule, per 20lbs 4 times daily
I'm trying the honey and warm water combo. My boy actually injured his tracheal (I am pretty sure) when he was barking at a dog while inside my car. he lunged at the window that was partially opened and hit his throat on the edge of the window. He started hacking some, and gradually got worse as the day went on. Of course it's a holiday weekend, and my vet is closed on the weekend. I just gave him the honey and warm water, and it seems to help + he really likes it. Still will probably get him to my vet.. but (fingers crossed) hoping this will help keep the irritation down until I can get him in. Thanks so much!
my dog easily gets asthma like attacks when hes gets excited. like when someone comes home who hasnt been home for days or sees a dog for example. or randomly if hes laying down or playing too much and it always looks like hes coughing up hairballs. thanks to this ik what it is
I was reading on search that someone is using a vaporizer for the doggie and it helped a lot. Or putting the hot shower on to make steam. I take baths and have not used the shower in ten yrs. I tried to use it for my dog, but the metal button was frozen and jammed. I took a hammer and plyers, and only got the button up a bit and just a trickle of water . I used wd 40 too. Shower won't work. So this is what i finally thought of. I have a canopy bed with all 4 sides covered with shower curtains, cloth. I usually keep one side open. But i tried something. I put a stool next to the bed, and put the vaporizer on it and i pulled down the curtain so it made a tent inside. I left a couple small openings so to let some air and steam out. It works great.. I just tried it so dont know if my pom will get better. So if any of you have a canopy bed you can try this. Or even if you don't you can make a little tent using plastic shower curtains and maybe nail them to the wall like one sheet nail or tack all the way at the top of the wall and then pull down the sheet and lay bricks or heavy books on it to hold the bottom down. And the two sides will be open, maybe use clothes pins and pin a long towel on each side. Put the vaporizer next to the bed with a tall stool. Keep an eye on it. I wouldn't leave it there when going out tho. Just turn it off or open the curtain and move stool away from bed. Or use a small table. It makes a great tent. Leave a couple holes so fresh air can get in and out. I'm not sure if i will do it when sleeping. Have to think about it. The curtain will touch the back of the vaporizer . The front is where the steam comes from. Just keep checking the back curtain to make sure it does not melt. Mine is cloth so it's ok. you can get a cheap shower curtain for 6 bucks at Walmart clear plastic. I hope this helps someone.
I had to stop using the vaporizer in the canopy set up as the whole bed was soak and wet. I just have it in the room now. It helps, but not a super lot. I would say fifty percent at least. Every dog is different of course.
my lhasa apso used to cough a lot and still gets coughs when he tries to make noise for too long he used to have this weird thing were hed sharply breathe in and repeating for about 2 minutes which would get him very upset and give him panic attacks he hasnt dont that thing for a while now i was hoping it could have been down to diet or maybe because we had just got him so he wasnt settled yet ... its very scary and he picks up on my fear as well im pleased this reverse sneezing thing has stopped if thats what it was
How I wish I would have seen this video while my 8.5 yr old rescue 100 lb. Black Lab was still alive. I took him to 4 vets with this problem who did NOTHING to help him. He came with an old scar at his throat where hair never grew - my guess was too long with a tight collar. He always gagged on a collar so I never had him wear one. I thought he might have a broken hyoid bone. Poor baby had signs of other neglect and abuse and I felt awful that I couldn't do any more to help him with the coughing/gagging. He only made it 3 years with me and had to put him down last April. He was a Senior Poster Boy rescue (my opinion), all love and cuddles. He had nightly gagging episodes at first once in a while and they slowly increased to nightly for 1 hour, then 2 hours, then 3 hours. He was terrified during these times and all I could do was hold him lightly and give him much verbal reassurance. He deserved much better. How could 4 vets miss it? Thank you for your love, compassion and practicality, Dr Jones, our Earth Angel.
Dr. Jones you are an angel among humans. Especially when it seems that lots of other vets (and md's) do not take into account that people have limited resources. You give all of us who love our pets, a way to treat our pets within our means. God bless you!

My yorkie has had tracheal collapse since she was 3. Back then we read up on it and panicked at the horror stories, thinking she would die young from this. She is turning 10 soon and is doing great. I think the main thing is avoiding triggers as much as possible. For us the main ones are heat and excitement/exercise. In the summer keep your house cool (we left AC off for awhile one summer and she would have multiple severe coughing fits per day) and do your walks after sunset. NEVER put a collar on a dog with tracheal collapse. If coughing occurs during exercise, take a rest and resume later (but don't stop all exercise, reduced physical fitness will exacerbate breathing problems.) And as Dr. Jones stated, struggling to breathe makes the dog panic which worsens the problem. I have found in the beginning stages of a coughing fit that calm distractions such as simple commands and treats can help reduce anxiety and stop the attack from escalating.
thank you for this. I suspect my Cockapoo has traschial collapse. I began giving him the honey with warm water twice a day and he sleeps through the night and only coughs maybe once or twice a day now. he seems energetic, eating well, playful and membrane color is good so thus may be the solution. thks
Thank you; this confirms my Maltese' cough is collapse (she's 16, so suspected it for a while). I appreciate your gentle approach and variety of treatment options. You are very understandable, compassionate and trustworthy. Thank you so much!
My dog is 15 later this year. I believe he may have this aswell. Your message is exactly what I think! Even though this video is old it's really hard to come by in content similar to this.
the lord bless you for your videos, you been so helpfull my dog is been 3 days and 3 nights coughing so much, she is my baby and i feel so bad for her.
Good, informative demonstration! My dog (also named Jessie) Border/Kelpie, got progressively slower in our walks, over a number of months, so I reduced the number of walks and the distance; changed her diet: lost 2KG; however, in the last couple of months, she got slower, the honking cough and wide mouth movements got worse. In the last few weeks, I commenced to abandon the longer walks, for the dog altogether, and instituted a short amble walk, AM and PM. Then, during the second PM walk, Jessie evinced a seizure-like collapse, circa (2min.) Made an appointment with the Vet. with a tentative euthanization. The next morning, Jessie had the same seizure-like collapse and wet herself! That induced me to make the euthanization firm. The Vet. noticed that Jessie had swollen lymph nodes; front of the body and rear legs. Furthermore, I omitted to tell the Vet., that our son became a smoker, because of chronic fatigue, and Jessie was around him for quite some time. As you mention, this could have precipitated the disease. Jessie is also a middle size dog, unlike those who, as you say, are more predisposed to this ailment. Jessie was aged; 13.75 years. The honey did help her somewhat. Thanks for the youtube!
I’m not a smoker, not by a long shot but I live in an industrial city and my beloved toy poodle has been a leash tugger since day one. Now migrating to harness full time. He’s been honking that honk lately and I’m quite worried. This has been extremely helpful. Will be getting Rescue Remedy today and starting honey as well. Will take him soon if his condition does not improve. Much appreciated.
wow you are amazing! I took my dog to so many vets and none were able to help or give me any remedies that would work, all they were prescribing me was medications that had NO effect on my poor half pomeranian half chihuahua mix! Bless you for all the remedies! It's nice to know there are still some vets out there that are practicing to help the animals
Unfortunately I had to put my dog to sleep today. This condition is difficult. His heart was getting compromised his lungs with bronchitis. I noticed tightness on his belly. It is never easy to make this decision. I am completely lost right now. Im watching TV and visiting my family at least they understand what I'm going through.
I find that my terrier starts coughing like this when he's getting excited (e.g. When i get his harness for his walk etc). What I do now is distract his attention in situations that I know he'll start. Something simple like when I get his harness out, I give him a treat command and while hes performing it I slip the harness on so hes not focussed on it. It helps soo much and cuts his coughing in half.
Thank you, Dr. Jones for all the super info you share. What happened to you should be a crime with the Veterinary Board being severely punished. Things are changing as more people learn about the corruption involved in governments, conventional medicine, etc. May God bless you and yours.
He was punished by the Canadian Vet Board for telling the truth about natural pet care and given a HUGE fine. The truth is all he gave out. Why is that wrong and something to punish?
Thanks for the info. I think my shih tzu is having this issue. She usually only does it when pulling on the leash. I’ve been up all night due to her coughing but it sounds the same. She also has anxiety so the info on the theanine helps!
Margarita Marquez; my 11 year old overweight Miniature Poodle has this also. Due to my being disabled with MS/Multiple Sclerosis I’m unable to walk or run with her. 😔
Thx for the helpful video & remedies! Our mini-labradoodle developed symptoms @~10 years, confirmed by testing and imaging. We tried natural remedies for a while, but didn't have much success. Our vet prescribed Theophylline LA (Theodur SR) and a Fluticasone inhaler (Flovent or Flixotide) through an AeroDawg plenum. Symptomatic improvement >80% for 3 years now. Best wishes to anyone managing this distressing condition!
My daughters chihuahua has this, she’s 12 and a rescue, I know we all want natural first but I wanted to share her vet has Molly on small dose of Cerenia once every two days, it does work, no coughing at all, hope I didn’t overstep, best of luck to you and your pup
Rescue Remedy, Licorice root tincture (not for long term - only during acute episode), homeopathic remedy I think was Hepar Sulph but is hard to hear for sure
My seven-year old dog's just recently coughing and it's very alarming bc he spits with blood after coughs. We brought him to the city vet, he was injected vit k1 to stop the bleeding, but we were advised to bring him to a private clinic which we did right away. He went through tests and based on his x ray his trachea is getting smaller than normal (though the difference is minimal). One of his prescribed meds is prednisone but after reading some posts, I doubt that it will help him a lot. We're all worried for him and we're ready to do everything for his recovery. We're guilty about him becoming overweight and now he's on a diet. I think it's more effective if we treat him with natural meds alongside with the prescribed ones. Thank you for this video it gave me hope! And sorry too for my long comment I'm just so sad rn 😞
Our Pomeranian passed July 13,2022 due to tracheal collapse. The vet never brought it up even after the presented symptoms. Wasn’t even mentioned until after he had a bad anxiety attack which lead him to not be able to breathe and it got worse. Things I wish I had known. He was only 3
I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my Maine Coone cat a yr ago,she was 21. It hurts so much. This Dr is really wonderful. Jeff Mara has a cool podcast, on people who have NDEs,some see their pets. It’s hard but knowing that you loved your animal, there’s no amount of money that can replace that. Pet parents are important too. ❤🇨🇦
Thank you very much Doctor for taking the time to put this video up. My little dog has this problem and I never knew what it was. Very scary. I will be definitely trying the natural remedies you indicated.
I've never been a big believer in natural remedies.... Until now. The honey has made a world of difference when my dog is having an episode with his trachea collapsing. We've also had a lot of luck with essential oils with essential oils and CBD for various other issues. With my 8 year old, 21 pound Pomapoo, I can get his tricky a collapse episode episode uncontrolled in under 5 minutes with nothing but honey and sitting down and loving on him and talking very soft and just calming him down. He is overweight and that is something that we are working on. We also got rid of All of our " Glade plug INS" Scented candles, and we purchased an air purifier . All of these things together have made a huge difference in the frequency of his attacks.
Thank you so much! You helped me figure out that I was causing a collapse treachia with all the cleaners I use around the house. Last time I was doing heavy cleaning on the garage he came down with a cough and did also this time. Didn't have any idea till I saw your video and thought back to the last time he had it before tonight. Thanks sgain!!
Cleaning can't cause trachea collapse, but it can certainly worsen the symptoms by irritating/causing inflammation to his trachea. Please take him to an internist for a check-up so they can evaluate the severity of the collapse. Discontinuing the use of irritating cleaners won't cure a collapse.
Thanks so much for posting this. Your dog looks oddly just like ours other than color [brown] beard and all. We think he's lab/wirehair griff/pointer mix. So similar that ours has this cough and your video is really the only thing to accurately represent it with video, and even more so. Your onset notes on getting excited, as a trigger.. we have seen as well. The cough has gotten more progressive as Bax has gotten older , but he's had the occasional cough all of his life, I always thought it was his ginormous tongue [like gene simmons I joke w/ people] but lately in the last year its a lot more common than occasional. I've read up on Tracheal Collapse, and your video was really the best representation along with so much other helpful insight. Thank you!
Hi Doctor, I would like to know if trachea stenosis is the same as collapse trachea? The vet told me that my dog has trachea stenosis, bronchitis and infection. He is taking Prednisone 5mg, antibiotic Doxycycline 100 mg 1 tab every 12 hrs for the cough, Hydrocodone/Homatropine 5/1.5 mg medicine 2 x day, Aminophylline 100mg 1 x day. The sound of his cough sounds very loud strong like a goose and at the end he makes a sound like he wants to throw up. There is no improvement at all. I will try your remedies. I want to know if he is in pain or discomfort :( Please let me know if there is anything else I should do. Hopefully you read my post. Thank you!
I really appreciated your videos, starting with the one about kennel cough. Just had a real fright with my not-long-recovered-from-grave-illness terrier and I feel a lot better for watching your matter of fact and informative videos.
Thank you Dr. Jones. Searched your videos to find what I needed to help Mishah. She was injured at day care over weekend and needed natural remedies to help.
I have an 11 year old poodle mix. She coughs like that when she walks with her collar, and sometimes when shes just wearing her collar. I've started walking her with a harness, and keeping her collar loose, and just on for identification purposes.
Thank you. I spent $800 at last appt ruling out heart issues and only got a cough suppressant that appeared to make my already anxious and 75% blond pup hallucinate. They said they couldn’t diagnose collapse unless I do a swallow study at the specialty hospital. I told them I KNEW this is what we were dealing with and an urgent care vet had suggested same. Thankfully I can treat my dear one based on your valuable demonstration, insights and knowledge - not just my own reading and guessing. (I’d been using honey and rescue remedy mostly based on my personal coughing and anxiety experience!)
I had a vet that spent over a year pursuing an enlarged heart and Lyme disease diagnosis. Despite the Lyme disease test coming back negative and the expensive echocardiogram I got saying no enlarged heart or heart problems. Then after several other vets, I finally found one that used her x-rays to diagnose his collapse trachea.
My dog Minnie drank water I brought with me and then she ate grass and who knows what else but I know grass not sure if I gave a treat as well during that time frame but she changed from hardly ever having reverse sneezing to having what seem like that and other issues along with it. She wouldn’t wanna walk at all or for to long before having a fit. she pulled on her collar at the back of her neck as she isn’t fully leash trained spoiled princess who likes being off leash. so I don’t know what is making her do a 360 or whatever from perfect to in trouble. not sure if grass is stuck in throat irrigation her pathway down her mouth or if it got into her lungs or what is really going on. She drank some water on her own when we got home. No interest in food or treats. she was unable to bark at a huge dog and growling was lower and such then normal. But was able to make that sound with voice. I think she might have this or something else not positive. if you can help me in any way with suggestions and etc. she had to get sick when vet clinics closed and not open on Sunday. it was a sudden thing from normal to this issue.
Thank you, doctor... this can't happen. I cannot watch my Chihuahua suffocate. He is not overweight. Non smoking household. He is 8-yrs old. He can't leave me. I won't let him. He has late stage tracheal collapse. I have brushed up on canine CPR... artificial respiration... and now I will use your tips. I just started him on some collagen to strengthen his ligaments and also kale powder for extra vitamins.
Its a few years my dog Sara has been dealing with Tracheal Collapse. I've made a lot of changes in my house and the collar, that helped a lot. I started out with the yarrow plant as a herbal tea and add it to her food. I also alternate with honey in water by mouth, that was a great success. She and I are happier she barely coughs, thanks to the information Dr Jones.
Hey this isn't really related, but I can't find where to go to ask. I accidentally got my 6 month old retrievers head caught in an automatic car window about 5 hours ago, he is a very no vocal and laid back dog anyways so it's hard to tell if he is ok. he goose coughed one time when his neck got caught(I don't think it squished his throat very much because the window didn't get closed that much and I rolled it down within a second) however he has been really sluggish and kind of weird since...also yawning excessively especially when I touch his throat...thoughts?
Can the tracheal collapse produce a squeaking sound? When I give my neighbor's dog a bath she has a very light whimpering squeak under her breath. After she coughs she clears her throat like she's about to spit and swallows so that it sounds like phlegm, but the condition is suppose to be non productive. She also has a stage 3 heart murmur. She's a 13 year old toy poodle terrier mix. Some days the wheezing can be at the end of each cough. It has changed from the classic goose honk to the cough and breathing I prescribed which sounds productive. The vet listened to her chest and said the horrible allergy season we've had could be the reason for the change. They wanted $50 for cough syrup. These remedies may be cheaper. I'm helping with the majority of the vet bills. We can't even afford a joint supplement, dental work, x-rays, and any blood work outside the annual tests. I'm afraid there will be an emergency and nothing I can afford.
I lost one of my yorkies from a collapsed trachea. It was heartbreaking. That was in 2007. I’m still grieving. It is 2024. Then I rescued another yorkie who I rushed to the vets, after having him for only a few months, and he also had a collapsed trachea…BUT thankfully this time we were able to save him. He had surgery where the vet put a stent in his trachea, and overnight my tiny yorkie was doing fine. He was only 2 when this happened. The rescue team said he was bred to be small…🤬.. and his organs were so vulnerable. He had to have another stent inserted into the first stent 8 years later. Sadly he died 2 years later from being so fragile and from pneumonia. He was given hydrocodone for coughing as well as oxygen help and other medications. I was at the vets at least once a week. But I would do it all over again. I wish every vet had the wisdom and patience that Dr Jones has. The world would be a better place!
Poor dog!! How many different things did he shove down it's throat?! Yes some were natural remedy.. pretty sure that whole mix spaced the poor thing out.
Has anyone had the surgery for an elderly chihuahua? I am informed it would be around 10,000 pounds. I'm not rich but would find if if it is a viable option. My chi slso has horrific sleep apnoea. I don't even know that an operation would cure that. Please let me know how your experience left your small dog. It is so upsetting and no one gets any sleep. I sit up at night listening to her breathing trying to stop it getting to choking.
Lost our 8 yr old Chinese Pug several years ago from this chronic condition. It’s was horrible. He actually died from a blood clot in his lung while in the hospital in his last days.
Thank you for show us this. I think my chihuahua/dachshund mix may have this. I will try these. Some of these tips will help me as well. Like the air filter and get rid of dust mites. Blessings!
Hi my cockerspainel has just had his teeth cleaned under anaesthetic he his now reverse sneezing at least 4 times a day .its been four days do you think he has a tracheal collapse caused by use if air pipe .I have started to give him metacam any advise would be grateful so worried
Thank you for the information. I was wondering if respiratory anesthesia can cause a tracheal collapse? My dog underwent a procedure with respiratory anesthesia six months ago and has been coughing two or three times a day since then, especially when he turns his belly. However, he does not develop goose honking and does not pant heavily after exercise. So is it possible that he has tracheal collapse or something else? I’d really appreciate it if you could answer my questions.
Yes this is a good point. My dog never started coughing or wheezing until last year when he was neutered. I too wonder if being put under anesthesia did this to him? I'm glad I read your comment and I hope you get an answer soon❤️. I'm going to go on Google now and see if tracheal collapse can be brought on by surgery. Hope your dog is doing ok?🤗
Did you ever get an answer to this regarding if it could be caused by surgery? My Maltipoo underwent a surgery to have teeth removed and her breathing was affected shortly after.
Hello Dr. Jones, I love you videos, they’ve been super helpful. I really appreciate your knowledge and passion. I’ve spoke to a few trainers and vets but can’t seem to get a clear answer on two questions. Should I be concerned about my dog breathing pretty hard for extended periods of time after being outside or exercising, even for shorts periods of time? Two, will my dog resting on tile floor throughout the day negatively effect his health? He has a very nice bed and is allowed on the couch, bed, wherever he wants. But, he always prefers the floor, I assume it’s because it’s cold. He’s a 75 pound (not overweight) 10 month golden retriever. He has a very thick coat and humongous neck/dulap. We live in central Florida so it gets quite hot, but I try to plan around the heat so he’s not exposed more than he needs to be. I’m sorry to be so long winded. These things have really been bothering me for some time now. I hope I’m just being my normal paranoid self.
Thank you for this video. My tibetan terrier has this and has been coughing up a storm. He just finished antibiotics and cortisone treatment which works for a couple weeks and then stops. So I am definitely going to try these suggestions.
Hello MrDoonteaths. It know its been 7 years but wondered if you found anything that helped your pup. My pup is 11 and after an endoscope that caused the collapse, she huffs pretty constantly when awake and gags every now and then. I'm wondering if you found anything that helped her. She is pretty miserable and no longer going to the vet.
My cocker spaniel recently got diagnosed with this and the vet said it's probably caused by his collar and told us surgery is the only solution but there arent any pet hospitals that provides surgery for the trachea here in the Philippines so we'll just give him medication
thank you for that info Doc. not JUST the info either, thank you for HOW you delivered it. (and Jessie too!) excellent job on the video. Liked and Subscribed (and i dont do that very often) ☺️Thanks again. 👍
