This video was filmed before the COVID-19 lockdown. A couple of months back I filmed a drag race between my old Renaultsport Clio 182 and a Clio 197 owned by Racing Driver, Adam Christo.
during that day we also filmed a track battle to see which two cars would be the most agile at setting lap times.

See Cosworth RS500 fetching almost 600k at auction 2023, this is where money is at most been scrapped- recycled gone. Sad they much better than hypercars, and actually for wealth means fewer in numbers on a global population scale. Megane 225 chipped to 279bhp 2006 yr best car I ever driven. Better than Aston Martins- Rolls- Lotus Esprit. Only 179 left on UK roads. Ffing sad when workers stuff exceeds that of counts+ playboys.

I get my 182 next week! 94k, belts and dephaser done this week, a lot of history and only £1800. I can't wait!

A lot of car for the money enjoy. I’ve had a 182 cup from nearly new just can’t bring myself to sell it I’m getting a bit old for the filling jolting suspension and the noisy cabin though 😂

Excellent vid ! The 197 had non standard brakes and pads and, I imagine, decent tyres, if Adam is using it as an instructor car. If the 182 is using standard brakes and old tyres, then they could be costing several seconds a lap. It certainly seemed to be suffering from a serious lack of grip. I wonder what the time delta would be if they were both using the same tyres and brakes... maybe the 182 would be quicker ?

Great video... This is my type of thing.... Back in 2010, the clio 197 was my first car (luckily) and that car was a "teacher" for me, thanks to that, i learn how to heel and toe, lift off steering, left foot breaking and car control... Even today, after driving a lots of "superior" cars, i still love the clio and megane rs they are truly especial

So straight line speed was hands down, to the 182 corner but the chassis Improvements of the 197 and even carrying the extra few hundred kg, still make the 197 a quicker circuit car....nice vid👍🏼

Josh Ryder couldn’t agree more! Wouldn’t mind one myself and never owned a french car! 106gti/saxo vts lost there place to these I think. Although they handle amazing!

I used to have a 172 back in the early 2000 th, i keep it 10+ years and 200kms. Such a fun car, prety safe as well as it handle quite well.

So the 197 had cup racing brakes and probably decent tyres too. The 182 did well considering it had poor quality, standard equivelant parts and double the mileage!

Its absolutely no secret at all that the Clio 197 is slightly heavier and ever so slightly slower than the 182 but......the 197 has better build quality than the 182 and is by far the beefier and better looking 'Hot hatch' IMO ;)

I used to have a red bull RS200. These cars are amazing. I've got my eye out for a 182 in good nick. Nothing yet though as most of these are thrashed. Would love a 182 trophy in Gordini blue.

Also a 205 GTI sold in Paris record £69,000 euros. The later gen have much more power last of amazing petrol power drivers car without drivers aids. Will be worth mega money in only few yrs.

What a great car the clio 182 is, definitely on the top three hot hatches ever. They never where about the laptimes but i remember a 182 cup was always faster than a 182 Trophy.

The Renault sport line had always been favourite cars, and always will be. Currently have a 197, and I'd love to own a Mégane later on. I'd really like to get lessons from this guy on how to drive my car properly. @adamchristo, any info? 🙂

Please make sure u worm up the clio 182 good next time sooo can rev to more then 7k rpm and was going to beat the 197 for sure

The 197’s spoiler would’ve cost high speed acceleration and 8-10mph vmax in that long straight (CFD tested). VLN often remove them because of this. This more than offsets slightly older tyres and it’s not like the 182 has good brakes anyway. The 197/200 is the superior car in terms of refinement and capability, there’s a reason Chris Harris claimed he wants to be buried with one, but the 182 is great and the very last of old school.

Bailey Westby sadly Bruntingthorp is being taken over more and more for car storage, it’s also used for one of the UK biggest car auction houses. They’re all ex lease cars that are being stored and sold.

182 kills the 192. Complete bollocks. Having personally owned a 182 back in 2000s and raced with 197s. The 182 is hell of alot faster.

I agree! The tyres and brakes make a huge difference to lap times! The 182 would have destroyed the 197 with similar age tyres and racing pads

I bet a 182 is just as much fan as a GR Yaris on UK roads. Yaris makes it too easy I hear. Most of the Yaris' fun is because you are going so fast on a "low budget" (compared to a supercar). But speed is surely not everything huh?
