The Sedna 4 team travels to Komodo island in Indonesia to learn more about the infamous Komodo dragons. As they are joined by biologists Achmad and Denny, they will work to undertake a a population census of the dragons on a number of islands in the area. The team locates the dragons to track their population for conservation purposes, as well as interview some of the locals to understand how the villagers and dragons manage to coexist.
Next, the Sedna 4 team travels to the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean. On the island of Grand Cayman, the population explosion has reduced the habitat of already threatened species, such as the rare blue iguana. Considered extinct in the wild, biologist Fred has made it his mission to save them from extinction. Elsewhere in the Caribbean, some Indo-pacific fish were accidentally released into the sea back in the 1990’s. This lionfish has reproduced and populated the Caribbean at an alarming rate, causing other species to decline up to 80%. The team meets with local divers to see how they keep the lionfish population in tact.

I have family who were born on Grand Cayman, and have lived their entire lives there. My Nephew is a specialist on bioluminescence and the importance of the mangrove ecosystem. Fred Burton is one of my heroes…and ALL of my heroes are conservationists who work to ensure the survival of endangered species and ecosystems. Our own lives depend upon those same ecosystems more than most people realize. These are amazing documentaries…thank you for helping to educate the world about the true state of affairs.🖤🇨🇦

fun fact: "Megalania Golia" was actually the largest lizard to walk the earth and lived on mainland Australia until the late Pleistocene after in was killed off by native humans. it was also the closest relative of the Komodo dragon and likely looked very similar except twice the size and could swallow a human it one gulp.

"It was killed off by native humans" Is not necessarily correct. Humans may have played a part in their extinction, but it is misleading to the point of being wrong to say killed them off. Serious climate change was occurring in Australia during this time and while humans likely played a part in the extinction of the Genyornis, the reason it went extinct and emus didn't is due more to the emus varied and flexible diet. When the shifting climate changed the vegetation, the emu was able to adapt and the Genyornis wasn't (at least fast enough due to added pressure from humans). It is safe to assume the same principles were the primary cause of Megalania's extinction, as herbivores dying due to changes in vegetation would mean far less prey.

Fun fact: When using the latin genus/specie name, the Genus is capitalized and the species is not.

Wait. People live near these things? No way. I thought they were isolated? I could never! Dragons are mean & venomous. Holy cats. "I rarely attack humans, but when I do, it's a serious matter", says the most interesting dragon in the world.

Thank some of those "cages" for SAVING many other species from extinction, since NOT ALL animals are lucky enough to have ENOUGH "TRUE" WILDERNESS LEFT. (*The ones that are huge, beautiful & replicate their natural habitat, btw...not those repulsive boxes of concrete & iron bars that should be destroyed*)

Do these guys know that they are traumatising the dragons by weighing them bondaged and with their mouths shut? mankind.. thoughtless behaviour at best.. would you like this procedure to be made on yourself? No? Then do not do it to other fellow beings.

@yolandawilson9852 Год назад
They are trying to help the dragons because of their efforts the population has risen. Would you rather they not to do it and get bit or Lord forbid killed? They are not doing it for an extended time, they are doing to protect these animals and to make sure they are healthy.
