I feel like the Magic Trackpad 2 (or any sort of mouse) is kind of a necessity for anyone trying to use their iPad Pro as a primary work device. It helps to fill the gap between it being just a tablet and being an actual laptop replacement.
For my experience, I tried my Magic Mouse 2, Surface Mouse, Anywhere 2s for my IPad Pro with 13.4. The best one is Anywhere 2s, you can customize the buttons. Beside left and right click, I customized one of the side button as multitasking view, the other one as control panel. The top button next to the wheel customize as press and hold. So far it works very comfortable.
I totally agree with you regarding the Mouse support accessibility square problem and my workaround to that is creating a shortcut to turn assistive touch on and off and adding that to my home screen.

Good video. The explanation for Apple’s vision makes sense to me. Been deciding whether to buy a trackpad or not. Use same Logitech mouse with Macbook ( which I rarely use these days since I use a hub and external drives, keyboard and Pencil ). Call it a computer or not, I can do all I need for our small business, personal and photography on 2018 12.9 now-except format and check volume on externals.
Great vid - You can easily just tell Siri to turn AssistiveTouch on or off when not in use. I find this to be the best work around after mapping all the mouse keys
I’m using my iPad Pro 12.9 as main work station for a while, at first I was refusing the idea of buying a trackpad 2, so I bought the MX Master 3s and even tho it is a GREAT MOUSE, It’s not great for iPad. It has ot of downsides, especially with zooming in and out a photo or document, swiping between apps or between the small stacked apps (third window of multitasking). SO I bought the TrackPad 2, and its working GREAT! All the downsides from the mouse are gone with the trackpad. My advise (that no one asked for) is that you should go for the trackpad instead of trying to see if a mouse will do the work. You’ll save some money.
Finally a review with a regular mouse - but how can i switch "pages" with the regular mouse? When I am on my homescreen and i want to go to the other side of it - how does it work? With a trackpad you would use two fingers - but how to do this with the mouse?
Tried out a first gen magic trackpad i had lying about and no gestures or even scrolling work, just left click and moving the cursor. Guess I’ll have to upgrade $$$ haha
You Just helped me alleviate my biggest problem, I was struggling on my Logitech MX Anywhere 2S Mouse on how to include app switcher when i had assigned all my bttons to something or other. i did not know you can double switch on the small button below the scroll wheel and it would take you to app switcher. that is too cool bro ! I totally agree with you. I have tried using a Magic Mouse, a Logitech Mouse and I finally received my new Apple trackpad a couple of days go. Gestures did not work on the Magic Mouse either. It operated just like the Logitech Mouse. The trackpad however worked seamlessly with my 12.9 iPad Pro.
You can turn off the menu dot and still use the button by heading to accessibility->touch->assistive touch->scroll down to pointer device->turn off always show menu

I agree that the trackpad is the best option with the iPad Pro because the gestures just feel natural. Your workaround tips are always helpful though when you need a cheaper solution! Been using your tips with my logitech mouse while I wait for the magic keyboard in May since it has a trackpad already with it. The $350 price tag is a little painful...but nothing new with Apple.
I can't wait to get my hands on the apple magic keyboard. what do you know so far about that magic floating keyboard for iPad pro-2020? Its still kind of hush hush on its full capability.
its tough to say, I’m really curious to see where apple compromised in making this keyboard. Is it going to be heavier? will I still be able to flip the keyboard back and go into tablet mode?
motorguarduk I have that set up to turn it on and off, but the menu shows up when my mouse is connected. Gonna dig a little bit more to see how I can get it to go away
I have the iPad Pro 12.9 2020 with the magic keyboard but when at my desk I use the Magic Trackpad two because I still want the gestures and I think it’s more integrated then a mouse
Great video.. it made me think of what I should get for my iPad in the future. But then I realised that apples gonna drop the magic keyboard and that’s gonna save me buying a keyboard and a trackpad for a cheaper price..

I am currently using a mouse with iPad Pro 2021 and I am satisfied with the accuracy of positioning, but the trackpad has the gestures advantage, so I am considering buying one.

@Fernando Silva. Thanks for your great info videos. May I ask if a MX Master 3 should scroll normally on a 2018 11" iPad Pro with the latest Apple (15.4.1) software? I find it is quite hesitant and not very responsive. To be honest it's not that great at scrolling on Windows either. This is the second example I've had that displays these traits as I returned the first thinking it was faulty. Would an Apple Magic Mouse 2 scroll better and without issue on an iPad? Thank you for your attention and I look forward to your reply.
Thanks for the video. Have a couple of questions for you: 1) Would you have the same user experience if you use an Apple Magic Mouse vs Apple Track Pad? If not, what are the advantages/disadvantages 2) Instead of geting the new Magic Keyboard for Ipad Pro, was thinking of getting the regular Magic Keyboard + Magic Mouse/Trackpad option for flexibility since I use it a lot on portrait mode. Prices of both options might be similar. What are your thoughts? Am I missing out on any benefit from the Magic Keyboard aside from the fact that it is an all in one set up?
thanks for watching. But no you are not losing out on anything. The only reason i like the magic keyboard case for ipad more is because its all together and easy to take around. But you plan on just using it at your desk, then go with the separate keyboard and trackpad. It’s cheaper, the trackpad works exactly the same and is MUCH larger and the keyboard is good too!
I'm thinking of picking up the new ipad Pro and this helped me to decide if I should get a mouse or trackpad with it, thanks! I agree - they want you to use a trackpad because they want you to drop $300 on their new keyboard with trackpad in May. Ha.

Nice video! How do you assign a single click and a double click to the same button? In your case the middle button. I can only figure out how to assign one action to it.
I didn’t assign it, i think the double click just happens naturally. Like when iPhones and iPads had home buttons, a double click of the home button took you to multitasking view so i think the function is just adopted like that. so just assign a button to take you home, and that same button double clicked should bring up the multitasking menu!
Fernando Silva Cool thanks, I think it may be a mouse specific feature as I don’t have the smaller button that sits behind the track wheel. No buttons work work with a double click on the Logi Pebble for me. Thanks anyway
good video but using the mouse or the trackpad differently...isn't called a work around, both have different user interfaces because obviously they are completely different.
I Greer up as a Major apple evangelist but they disgust me in so many ways now. My PowerBook in 2003 had features that apple still wont bring topad i and iOS because they want proprietary everything and they are just that greedy
I don't understand why you didn't try with the Apple magic mouse, which has some of the touch gestures built into it?! that'd of been a better apples to apples comparison. An apple optimised trackpad is always going to win out against a PC mouse!

For those watching apple makes other mice has bad scrolling (it’s not smooth at all)...this way, you can buy their product! Yay!..smh. The Magic Trackpad 2 at least, doesn’t have this issue.
