Damn that looks like a hell of a good time!!! So jealous here in Missouri. Wheelin in the snow is the BEST! Muddin is a good time but the clean up after sucks. The snow cleans itself. Great video.👍🇺🇸
Great video! You guys rock the deep snow wheeling rides for sure! Someone out there should consider running portals with 58s :)? My 54s on the RW2.5s were great on the snow despite no siping/grooving...keep it up!
I agree except portals along with 58's?! Parts alone will put you in what, 25 to 30 grand? That's a lot for a few " of GC. Don't get me wrong, love portals, just not the price tag.
Both have a great advantage. Tracks. So been in deep snow and they float and then be gentle at the same time. Tracks unfortunately can’t get you to the wheeling area if it’s on public roads. Big rigs big tires can get you to the wheeling area and take you home. But. Big tires also depend on horse power. The weight of the vehicle. So. Both in my opinion are awesome. Choose correctly for your riding area and adventures. Tried to general about this. My comment would have been 9 pages long if I was doing a full review. Keep wheeling everyone. Best adventures you’ll have. IMO. And where you’re wheeling is one of the best snow places in North America.
I would subscribe to this channel if it didn't have all that screaming. Great music but not for a video like this. I want to hear the engines and people having fun.
I agree..love Aerosmith but not here.. or maybe turn the music down so that you can here it in the background but not so in your face. Hearing the people talking and the engines singing would be great 👍 love the vids
U guys realize it’s cold as fuck outside and the snow is up to the doors….he’s inside a truck filming. No exhaust notes or anything would be herd much. Only pussies say Aerosmith ain’t good background music for off-roading. Go watch your unicorn dreams elsewhere.
So after watching I still don't know which is better? Tracks or wheels and big motor? All my off roaring experience was 40 years ago in mud, sand, water and woods. I had a '66 Bronco, 3" lift, warn hubs, mud/snow tires, Craig power play 8 track and Miller Lite. Off roading was just getting popular in the Midwest back then.
One thing which might help you, besides big tires or chains, and I'm always curious why so few people use is portal axles. Stop trying to push (plow) your diff and whole axle assembly through snow/mud and get extra inches of clearance. Have a look to some 70'-80' designs of military vehicles like Tatra 805, Volvo TGB, Pinzgauer from Steyer&Puch, Unimog .. they all got extra clearance via portal axles, not via ridiculously big tires (and so huge mass to spin).
Nothing worse than whiny assss people complaining about something that costs them nothing! If you don't like the sound of that big V8, turn your volume down and play your own music. The video was great, lived the music, the engine sound and the occasional radio talk. It was all good and all part of what it's like to go wheeling, snow wheeling. We do the same stuff in Utah.
Some 6:26 depicts it nicely as big tires green Jeep tries to run where tracked one effortlessly crawled through minute ago. Both has pros and cons and are suitable for different use. But in deep snow I'd bet on tracks. Regardless I do not really like those with relatively sharp front edges due to small dia front rollers.
Hmmmmm. Those are badass. Seems like some chains off a skidder would make a real difference for those bigg ole rubber tires. Then they could really eat snow.
Love that FJ40, i miss mine.. stupidest thing i ever did was sell it because a blown engine and mega rust and no money to fix.. shoot me.. lol looks like super fun.. Music was way too loud.. Rather heard the Motors, and side comments.. great video still!!
That was awesome! But seeing all that snow made my balls jump up and hug my tonsils for warmth. Must be gettin' old or sumpin..... Howdy from, like, 75 miles the other side of the border.
How wide are your rims? in Iceland we run for example 46 MT on 16 to 20" rims it gives you better floatation and also gives you better stability and steering when sidehilling with low psi.
If u do go with track don’t be cheap not worth it in the long run the cheap ones fall off detract bind make so much friction and over heat the tracks and engine but if u buy a decent set of tracks they are excellent for snow
There is a guy in the Shuswap that made a set of tracks for his from 144” long 2” paddle tracks from snowmobiles. They really go. Tracks definitely have their limitations but when they work, they really work. His Jeep is a bone stock tj rubicon when it’s on tires
@@Devonradcontracting yeah they don’t like side hills and icy hard pack. This why I’ve always wanted to stay tires. Down here the last few seasons we have gotten a ton of sugar snow with hardly any good base snow. Those tracks would definitely excel.
The only draw back to those huge meats is it takes a lot of pony's to turn them especially if your in 2 feet of heavy snow where the track is giving a more even footprint!!@
Chains make u sink most of the time we want to float on top cause we are in 10 feet of snow chains also make a mess when your spinning them at high speeds. They don't work for what we do.
@@Devonradcontracting Thanks for the reply! I figured there was a good reason. I use them in 3 feet of snow or less so nothing like what you guys are doing!
Skinny is good if the tire can reach the solid surface below. In this case,. That snow can be 5' deep, skinny tires just won't work. Hence the large, wide floatation tires.
@@melshingleton7865 👍 As long as you have enough “Paddle” and torque to keep moving fast enough and stay on top, then you are 100% correct. Otherwise ground pressure beat float in snow, every time. I think people still think about what they grew up with. Dad’s skinny bias ply snow ties on his two wheeled wonder 75 Ford. Tires have come a long way. So has HP.
That rule applies for driving on snow covered pavement. Thin tires cut through the snow to grab the pavement below. You want big balloon tires for really deep snow so the vehicle "floats" on top.
I think it's probably a good video but I had to stop at the 5 minute mark because of the music. I'm honestly surprised you haven't had a copyright strike because of it.
