Welcome back to another Handyman Land video.
Today's video is on the conspiracies of Tractor Supply Layer Feed.
The rumors are if you feed your hens feed from these big corporations like Tractor Supply. Your chickens egg production will drop.
Buying from the local Farm was just hurting my pockets. I still continue to support the local farm. But when money is tight, I have to turn to the Big Box Stores. I decided to do my own study on layer feed. My goal was to put these rumors to rest. My experiment took 6 months. I'm finally able to release the data. This will be a 2 part video. I have had problems with TS pellets and I did notice they like the feed from F and H better. Of course they are spoiled. I feed TS feed and everything else.

Biggest issue with feed is stocking up to save a few dollars. As soon as grains are processed they begin to lose nutrients, significant loss of nutrients and flavor 2 months after processed. Do your best to keep food fresh and you will get better value out of feed. Thanks for video

thats a lot of money for that, i went to my local co-op and got 50lbs of 18% mix and it was 16$ a bag

I raise Quail for eggs and meat after 10 weeks old we switch them over from 27 percent (I do buy the 27 percent from another place) because they are growing so fast at that time to 16 percent layer crumbles from Tractor supply and have been doing it for years with no problems at all I am not sure if this is different with Chickens Just for info Chickens take 6 months to start laying eggs quail start laying in 8 to 10 weeks yes it takes three quail eggs to add up to 1 large chicken egg but I can keep 12 quail laying hens in a 2 foot wide by 1 foot tall by 3 foot long cage and is EQ to 3 chickens and you have to have a lot more room for them and I am getting eggs 3 times faster just food for thought

My chicks would not start laying when they turned the age, switched from tractor supply feed to local feed and slowly they all started laying.

@Red-ej6he That's interesting. Do you recall? How long ago was that. I'm starting to wonder where they are doing something to the feed behind the scenes, and when word got out they stop doing it... I have part 2 of this video coming out Sunday. I just might have to make a part 3. Maybe the conspiracies were real.🤷‍♂️

I did not let my hens out of their area for a year. Then on the second year, I let them out. At that point, they were producing double the poop. But, I also felt the need to add a little oyster shells (just a half teaspoon a day). then one day, I could not let them out because of a predator in the area, and they layed really small eggs that day. They only wanted to eat the layer feed if they were hungry enough (almost like a chicken hunger strike). They eat more layer feed, when they can get out more, and are not so stir crazy. And by the way, Producer Pride, is made about 12 location, and each location makes it differently. From my experience, it's better feed then the feed sold at the other store. My chickens also like a little grain in the morning.
