Tractor Trailer Stuck at Federal Reserve Building. Funny enough, we get called here a ton. Like Alex says in the video, the drivers back up to the loading dock while empty, then get loaded with literal tons of money and coins. As they leave and exit the driveway exiting the Federal Reserve, the now loaded trailer bottoms out and gets stuck. Sometimes they just need a tug and we can winch them out. In this case, that would do tons of damage to the landing gear, possibly bending them or breaking them.
Alex made the call to use the boom with a spreader bar to protect the trailer. Big Flipper is a 75ton rotator and powerful enough to do it off the back corner, then once in the air he was able to swing the entire tractor trailer to safety. This method is quick and safe, with no damage to the sidewalk, the trailer or the landing gear.

Of course Alex is a skillful operator of the truck and equipment, but he's also a good narrator of what he's doing. It's nice to have another person who can take a truck and camera and produce more good content for the channel.

@@Randrew That price was accurate. The $750 base is the per hour standard rate. So if it was super complicated it would have been the higher end. But he knocked it out the park here. One thing about us is we are FAST and efficient. Notice how even hard rollovers seem to be done so fast? We can absolutely do what others do and take hours on even a job like this to charge more, but that's not us.

In this modern age, if you want to be a tow operator you need not only a CDL license and a vast knowledge of rigging, and mechanical systems, but you also need to be a Part 107 certified drone pilot too.

It's most 2 or 3 axle armored trucks in and out, you can see them all leaving in a row after this guy gets free. But yes, they do have an issue that's happening a lot with the larger trailers

There's a very good chance the driver could of tied up his self leveling valve, to over extend the tractor air bags a couple inches, walked right out of there. I've personally done that a few times.

Absolutely! If the truck alone wasn't enough he could have gained a bit on the trailer too. A driver should look at where he is and think "Every other driver gets out of here without a tow truck."

That exit reminded me of a train crossing that allows trailers to high-center the box. A cost reduction suggestion of having less of an angle when leaving the building could help them in the long run.

@@appleintosh The tow truck guy literally said his notes have the feds paying for it, and the reserve police confirmed. Cities and railroads don't pay because trucks aren't allowed on those sections. But here, it's literally the only way in and out of the reserve and the trucks are told to use it.

BTW - the reason for all those armed cops is very simple: as long as that truck is stuck in the opening, the security of the building is at risk as they can't close off the loading dock opening or raise the streetside bollards. (plus, I'm sure, all those officers wanted to watch)

I used to drive Armored Vehicles into the federal reserve building in Richmond, VA. They have en entire city block underneath the FRB building. A tractor trailer can do a 360 turn inside. This place looks so dangerous for armored cars. Its why they have to post the FRB police outside when they are coming and going. If this is happening regularly why not change the road angle to accommodate the tractor trailers?

Same thing happened to me. Backed into a dock, down the ramp. Got loaded and my landing gear wouldn’t clear the transition from the ramp to the level area. They had to partially unload and put wood down for me to back onto to raise my trailer, allowing me to clear the transition.

This seems like a noble and respectable profession. You guys do good work. I became interested in this type of heavy towing after I watched Heavy Rescue 911 and Highway Through Hell on Netflix lol. I knew nothing about trucking or towing but for some reason I was really interested in those shows. Oh, Ice Road Truckers too!

They give great instructions when you get there. Don't stop and move along at a good clip so your landing gear doesn't get hung up. I've been there on Flower in Los Angeles. Tight dark blind side dock too. Lol

One would think they might reason that a shorter trailer with a shorter wheel base might be a solution. Maybe a sign that says wheel base of 53 ft trailers will not fit.

Nice rig and well done Maybe the guy didn't understand.... Obviously had the brake on until reminded for the third time to disengage it ! Following simple instructions in important and then had to ask him to set the brakes three times after moving him. Exactly the kind of driver we need hauling around $$ millions

This can be avoided if they stop sending trailers with skirts. More often then not, the landing gear clears these sort of humps. But the skirts NEVER do. Good job on the fix!

a million dollars in singles weighs about 2200 pounds or 997 kg. you know those officers were having a better day that day other than just standing around all day bored, they had something interesting to learn and watch from. good work man. used to be an auto painter. i appreciate and understand the hard work and dangers you towers have to go through. so you guys lifted but just wondering, wouldnt it of been a option to put logs behind the truck reverse it a bit so it got higher and then put logs infront of the trailer wheels to get it that bit of clearance? i have no towing experience but was just wondering as ive done stuff like that before when it was tight with a small trailer that had to get in the building but couldnt due to the ramps

Dock was designed for 48ft and shorter. If I ever go there I'll bring some 4x4 mats to level out the hump. But 75% of my freight is forty ft containers. With a day cab.

There is a covered service road in the West End of London, behind a theatre. It has a low stone-built roof: When you enter with a full load, no problem, there's a bit of clearance, but, try to leave after unloading...... You don't think about it until it happens to you.

Bin there done that, inside an underground loading dock, once the weight was off, I pulled forward and thought it was snowing ( inside, summer?). I was scraping the insulation off the ceiling. LOL

Wow, look at the concrete, it been scraped so many times. One would think they would spend the money to fix that spot. For those wondering, it usually coins that are loaded out, hence only a few guards. I have done a load like that, no escort, no guards, nothing. That is due its heavy and low value.

Alternative method...undo tractor air ride leveling valve, extend air springs...that raises landing leg pads off pavement....pull forward, lower air springs, reconnect leveling valve. No damage to anything.

Had that happen to me once, the best thing to do is slide the fifth wheel, lock drive wheels and rock it loose. Then take an angle to get out. I was only a month on the job, had traffic backed up and luckily some old time walked up and showed me what to do.

I was taught to keep two gallons of dawn dishwashing detergent with me( in the truck). Surprisingly enough, it really works. Concrete and dawn,work together.

Very nice! He was defiantly holding those brakes and didn't seem to get it right away what was happening. Should also run a camera by the running gear and where your lift point is before your strap is in the way. Nice job should be at least 2k probably more in LA

If the Reserve knows about the trucks getting stuck there, maybe have the entrance changed. If they can have it dropped and be levelled with the road, no more problem!
