For my 7th birthday in November 1995, my Nan bought me my first radio and also my first cassette tape: New Beginnings. It was the first piece of music I owned, and Tracy Chapman became my favorite artist as a young little gay white boy from the suburbs with no artists to look up to, until then. Well, my Nan passed away this January, and I’m thinking of her as I listen to this song and working on putting together my New Beginning life without her 😭. Also it’s beautiful how timeless this song, message, and Tracy Chapman are. ❤️
That's so cute 💓 My dad loved Tracy Chapman and always had the New Beginnings cd playing in the car when I was young. I found the cd when he passed away 2 years ago, and this was the song I listened to the most - inspiring me to brave my New Beginning without him 🥺 It's crazy to think how this song touched us both in a time of grief, around the same time. I only hope Tracy knows how special her music is ❤ & I was so excited after seeing her Grammy performance I had to come back to this song!
In 1996, in the dark before dawn broke, I pulled out of my parents driveway, and moved to Atlanta. This song came on the radio as I accelerated away. I credit this song for always giving me strength to never look back.
I saw her at Lilith Fair after this album came out. It was starting to get dark when she came onstage and pretty soon all you could see was the white of her teeth when she smiled (which she did often because the crowd was clearly there for her). I remember she started to play the didgeridoo for this song and everyone completely lost it. She was soft-spoken and didn't say a lot but she didn't have to. Her performance was flawless & emotional. I can still see her so clearly up on that stage. It was a really good day.
I’ve had this in my CD player in the car forever. I started listening to it again a few days ago on my way to get results for a biopsy on my 28 year old daughter. She has breast cancer. I have been soothed by Tracy this past few days. Thank you.
Thank you Tracy ...Enkosi Sis Tracy (South African) for the hope you bring in the lyrics of your music. Lessons for us to carry forward into our lives. Love you much.
Perfect lyrics for 2020 ;) The whole world's broke and it ain't worth fixing It's time to start all over, make a new beginning There's too much pain, too much suffering Let's resolve to start all over make a new beginning Now don't get me wrong I love life and living But when you wake up and look around at everything that's going down All wrong You see we need to change it now, this world with too few happy endings We can resolve to start all over make a new beginning Start all over Start all over Start all over Start all over The world is broken into fragments and pieces That once were joined together in a unified whole But now too many stand alone There's too much separation We can resolve to come together in the new beginning Start all over Start all over Start all over Start all over We can break the cycle - We can break the chain We can start all over - In the new beginning We can learn, we can teach We can share the myths the dream the prayer The notion that we can do better Change our lives and paths Create a new world And Start all over Start all over Start all over Start all over The whole world's broke and it ain't worth fixing It's time to start all over, make a new beginning There's too much fighting, too little understanding It's time to stop and start all over Make a new beginning Start all over Start all over Start all over Start all over We need to make new symbols Make new signs Make a new language With these we'll define the world And start all over Start all over Start all over Start all over ...
MY GOD Tracy is So Beautiful. I have to say from the first time I saw her and Now...Thank God she look less stressed. Nonetheless she has always be so damn beautiful ageless beauty. dare I say and Idol?
5G plays a huge role. Causes oxygen molecule to spin fast that hemoglobin can not attatch. Therefore decrease oxygen profusion. 1917-1920= roll out of radio waves. At war and soldiers vaxxed & got a bacterial pneumonia from it. People stayed at home. Very similar to some of todays events. When there is an increase in the electrification of the earth's quantum Field it has always had a negative effect on our human body.
Love this Album!! 2020 is the time to start all over. The way to do it through water. it's what connects everyone on earth no matter what the colour of our skin. Make new symbols make new signs Have been working with this song since 1995 to find an answer. An absolute masterpiece for insperation this song is the foundation for change. This song planted a seed way back in 1995 The importance of music to bring peace has all been taken for granted with the next hit song, But what is written in the past was written for today. This song is right up there with the 1969 song Give Peace a Chance The messages are all there its just a matter of believing in the Lyrics. 2020 its time for EQUALITY and RESPECT. THE WORLD/ NATURE IS WORTH FIXING!! FIX THIS AND WE FIX OURSELVES. The game needs to change to an Anti Monopoly world were we think about our childrens children and treat the ocean as God, God is waving but we never wave back.
This is my favorite song ever since I was a little kid. I kind of forgot about it for a while, but I just heard it on one of my old Spotify playlist and I just remember as a little girl being so excited when the song turned on it, just brought me a lot of joy, remembering how happy I was to hear this song
It's figurative. Starting all over... It's a way of expressing emotion...which will ironically push people to fix the "broken world" when they release all the frustration through music and art and unite through these pieces of art.
Sorry I could not comment on the actual posting about social media. You are the WISEST woman on the planet for keeping out of that world. Good for you. It's a waste of everything - including life.

Always did love Tracy Chapman, so much talk about her recently on internet had to dig out my cd i bought years ago, and decided to by this cd , have not listen yet, but this one song tells me i will enjoy it.
