DTSB, those options are totally on the money. What you didn't mention is that in the Bolts first Cup win, Gourde was a lights out effective 3rd line difference maker. Players who find another gear in the playoffs should be very high on the Leafs shopping list - he's that guy!. He's a big favorite of mine, but I think he might be hard to pry out of Seattle ... they love him there. Robertson may hold some attractiveness for the Kraken, though - they have to find more scoring. All the Centre options are good, and my opinion is you presented them in the order of attractiveness. Glad you're back, and REALlY glad that you're posting with some frequency. Your analysis always teaches me something and I can't say that about many other sites.
I think they go into the season with what they got and see how their young guys do. Jarnkrok is a great player and was doing good last season before getting hurt so I think keeping his is the best bet. I want a line of Domi, Matthews Marner and watch Matthews score 75
Looks like you are hoping to get 40 points rather than Kamf's 20 points. 20 more points. At least 5 of those will be 2nd assists.. so like 15 valuable points. Frost would cost probably 5 points more than Kamf in bad D. None of this means losing a playoff spot or even positioning. I say leave it as is, give kids and Homberg more time, and let's look at a big move at the deadline rather than this marginal improvement.
@9:40 Hockey Reference has Morgan Frost at height: 6-0, weight 193lbs @10:30 the site you're looking at has him at height: 5-11, weight: 170lbs makes you wonder how much of the other data is incorrect on these stats sites. I like your content, I just subscribed 👍
All of these guys are good. But two guys who are better fits have longer signed contracts who are cheaper and are rumored to want out of current situations. Boone Jenner.. and Shane Pinto. Are better fits cheaper signed to longer deals younger and make less money than almost everyone he mentioned.
Pinto does not want out of Ottawa, that report was debunked within hours of it coming out and he has since signed an extension with them. Zero chance Pinto is available.
I like the option of Jenner, I've been saying that for a while now. He would fit perfectly on 3c and could play some top 6 minutes in a pinch. Decent defensively, decent offensively and just a hard nose, gritty player whos not afraid to go to the tough areas..also a good leader and if you ask me, the Leafs need as much of that as they can get.
I like that the player tiles have more detail. It was a bit of a pain to get everything to fit on the screen though. I had to add a second display capture in OBS and crop it so the cap space would fit on screen next to the lineup. Otherwise to include it on screen I’d have to zoom out so far that it’d look tiny. They also have ads that randomly load at the top and bottom of the page and it ruins the framing of my screen capture. But I think those are issues just unique to me and my use case haha
I looked at him, and he was decent last year for Chicago, but he scored the majority of his points on the PP. Obviously the Leafs would be better team than Chicago 5V5, but if TJ isn’t on the power play, then idk how many points he puts up
@@DownTownSports98 I could see him on the second power play unit. It’s also good to have a guy whoes gone the distance before, much like gourde. In this case the player is free, which to me makes him a sexier target than trading for someone. Teams know the position Toronto is in and will make them pay. That’s why we are only getting Tanev now. It was more worth Trelivings time to wait a year instead of emptying the bank on a trade
I don't see any of Colton, Hayton, or Gourde moving. At least not for a price that the leafs would be top bidders on. Pageau and McBain not clear upgrades of upgrades at all over just seeing what you have in a Holmberg/Domi/Kampf combo. Frost is interesting. But the reason he might be available is friction with Tortz and the Leafs' coach isn't exactly a softy. All in all, Leafs have been more than fine with a below average 3C because their top two Cs are money. I'd rather just see what progression you can get from Holmberg than spend assets (unless you can steal Frost for a song). BUT, and most important I should add, Stephen you are an absolute peach for churning out this much off season content. A gem. A treat! My favourite person at this moment!
For the Maple Leafs, the ugly truth is that team is handcuffed so long as the team's current biggest 4 contracts - some would say five - remain in place. So much of the cap committed to so few players is a recipe for post-season failure. Four of five players can carry a team in the regular season, but not a grueling Stanley Cup playff - four best of seven series!
They need to trade to make room for the 1.1 mil 6'2 30 point RHD and the 3 mil 6'1" 40 point RHD. Moving on from the kid who was a point per game when Rielly was out at 1 mil is ridiculous but it is the Leafs so... They keep the clueless players with no offensive upside and are always out of position chasing hits away from where they should be and let players who actually cover the backdoor play can play offense and are always covering the dangerous player on the ice.
I like your show but I honestly dont think they will try to get anyone making over $1.5M AAV in return for a Kampf trade. They are taking a "win now" approach to everything but with this particular case... they simply cant afford to go after a $2.5M to $5M player without giving up a ton of assets for the other team to retain some salary. At this point I think they wanted to see how everyone did during the Leafs training camp. And, see if anyone is ready to step up to the NHL and take a 3rd line forward role. Like Minten, Steeves, and Cowan. Then... after the Kampf trade look around at free agent forwards for more depth with their $2.5M in cap space.
The one thing I miss about Capfriendly is that the positions of every player were accurate thanks to their depth charts and roster tools. The bulk majority of the players on puckpedia have their positions wrong. But I think I saw on Twitter that the person who worked on Capfriendly’s roster tools are moving over to puckpedia, so hopefully they’ll be able to update all the positions
@@DownTownSports98 lots of minor tweaks to be made for sure. But they are Doug a fantastic job for it only launching within a week. Plus they are really taking user requests seriously, I myself have given them a couple ideas for the UI and they got back to me and said those changes will be made (drag and drop player to trade etc) anyways great video as always!
He isn't good enough defensively. The centreman actually has to back check back to his own goal . Nylander does not know anything about his own side of centre.
Nic Cousins would be the best fit without losing anyone from their roster. Also, I believe that if Wheeler would be willing to take another 800k contract. He would look great in the top 6
Agree with lack of Leafs bottom 6 contribution. Without goals from Foegele, Janmark, McLeod, Brown and Henrique, Edmonton would’ve been eliminated in 4 in the Final.
I personally don't think this team got much better at all..maybe a little bit defensively, we will find out when they hit the ice, because at the end of the day, hockey isn't played on paper.. as far as up front, they lost Bertuzzi and did absolutely nothing to replace him in any way, shape, or form..people can bitch about Bert all they want, but there's very few players in the NHL that bring what he brings, plain and simple. I'm extremely happy they got Domi DONE. That's one smart move, he's a heart and soul type of guy and unlike so many before him, he actually wants to be here and yes he took less money to stay. What im really concerned with is the Goaltending. We have a 26 year old in Woll that can NOT stay healthy, Everytime he moves side to side he seems to get hurt plus he's very inexperienced, i think he's the future in net for the Leafs if he stays healthy, but i think they blew it by not getting a guy like Markstrom just incase shit went sideways quick..Stolarz is a very good career BACKUP whos never played more than 30 games in a single season..boys, if that don't concern a few people, i guess they have more confidence in this team than i do for some reason even after watching the same crap year after year. I hope and pray that Woll stays healthy, takes a big step and plays 50 games and Stolarz steps up huge for us when called upon, but I've watched this team too long to believe anything until i see it happen on the ice, period.
Yarnkrok is better then Kamp where He plays too much alongs the boards where he checked easier and more prone to injury but seems too have more speed then Yarnkrok but he goes to the net more by Yarnkrok so it a toss up to trade but maybe on trade for Yani Gourde would be a step up on the the 3rd line for the leafs but I am not the manager but Trevling will make the right decision who wants to trade goe leafs go.
With Dewar going to arb I think it should make Jarnkrok the odd man out. We talk about depth scoring in the playoffs and he is about the furthest thing from that. Kampf can at least anchor a solid 4th line.
@oceanplayground8553 yes let's trade a 20/20 guy making $2.1m over Kampf who does literally nothing and could be replaced with Holmberg or any other dime a dozen league players making league min.
@@CanadianLoveKnot I'm not sure what you think 20/20 totals, but he's scored 40 points exactly ZERO times in his career. He's scored 20 goals exactly ONCE playing with Mitch and Auston, a spot he was unable to retain and one he should be nowhere near again. He's coming off a 10 G 21 P season where he had 0 points in 7 playoff games, going -2 over that span. He has 5 goals and 17 points in NINETY-THREE PLAYOFF GAMES. But hey, he'll only be 33 by the time next season starts so he's basically just entering his prime. I'm sure he'll finally be the answer to our lack of depth scoring, instead of being a huge part of the problem! Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb!
@@CanadianLoveKnot if you're going to call a guy a 40 point player, I'd like to think he's been that consistently; or, at the very least has scored 40 points ONCE EVER by the time he's 33... Games played is not irrelevant to me though. In fact, I'm looking at NINETY-THREE GAMES (I spelled it out so I could capitalize for dramatic effect) that mean a great deal. The fact that kampf has scored more playoff goals than jarnkrok since 2019 despite him being a defensive 4C, and our only solid penalty killing center, makes your opinion DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB!
So far, they put new lipstick on the same hog.,So far, they are slightly above the Cap. So Far, they haven't the assets or space to trade for a quality 3rd line center. Yanni gourde is a small and high risk , Pageau on a 1 year contract would be fine, but you would have to give a pick for retention. Cowan needs more development imo,. The problem is the core 4 taking up so much of the cap that they are either forced to trade for magic beans (hope that cheap player pans out) or chip in more picks for retention. If you can't move any of the core 4 to improve, then use guys from the AHL (at least these guys are hungry) because this season is going to be the eightpeat, eight failures to get past the 1st rnd (Im not counting the Cats series because 1 game won is not being competitive) I would not trade any prospects or picks, and stand pat with what I have until the season is over, then I would retool. But the Leafs often do the unexpected and not in a good way.
I don't understand why they don't trade mitch marner they could build very good team and sign jhon for 6 million for the rest of his days I say 4 more years but if they trade mitch marner he at least a major top 4 defense or a top 6 forward plus prospects or multiple first round picks I would not want 2 rounders like st.lous the trade could be robert thomas, Colton praiko, Jake, 2025 1st, 2027 first 2025 3rd
They should focus efforts and money on defence and goaltending. what's left over can go to a centerman. Doing nothing at all will still work out. Players rise to the occasion, just wait and see.
Kampf sucks. He cant score and our PK was awful. So tell me his value? He tries hard and skates well? haha GET FROST. `Kampf for a late round pick and soy boy Lilly for Frost!
@@johnsummerhill8323 what are you talking about? Minten played nhl games last year and cowan dominated the ohl, Cowan will be on ohl or nhl, he will be in nhl
@@pahulmultani972 Minten participated in 4 games last year just to give him an idea of what to expect. He will play for the Marlies this season, unless he needs to go to Cincinnati for a bit . Depends on his development. I see him ready for the NHL by the 2026-27 season. Cowan may get less than 9 games with the Leafs before he goes back to junior. He cannot play for the Marlies this season. Then I see at least one season with the Marlies , maybe two.
@@johnsummerhill8323 what are you talking about??? Cowan put up similar numbers to marner in the ohl, no shot he goes back to junior. He graduated lol, he won ohl mvp, went memorial cup finals there’s nothing left for him to do
@@pahulmultani972 Marner was a high first round draft pick. Cowan may be a good player someday but he is nowhere close to being ready. Marner was way ahead of Cowan at the same age and you have to remember that the Leafs were not a playoff team when Marner first joined the team. The current Leaf team is a lot better and more difficult to make. I am not saying Cowan is a bad player or that he will never play in the NHL. I am saying that he is not ready yet.
Why not play Domi with Marner and tell Nylander that he needs to carry his weight defensively now. Matthews is one of the best defensive players in the League. Knies is developing into an excellent two way player. Nylander wanted big money, he needs to be able to play against the best in the League night in and night out.
Jenner for lily or kampf and pick. Trade timmins also. Then deadline look for top 2 D for 1st and minten with retained salary. Keep Robertson engaged unless good trade come about
..after 8 years of futility..adding to this playoff useless super soft core will not help...Marner, Mathews, Nylander seem terrified by the playoff physicality...no future as constructed..move these ladies out for men with attitude..
