I switched from compound to traditional a few years ago and at first I was consumed with my new passion. Then I started to get better and better. I started buying more bows and constantly tinkering arrows and changing form, tab, glove, light, heavy, straight, helical, etc etc…. Then I recently got back to pure shooting. And I’m back. I went full circle and sure that I’ll stray again. But what I got to say is that You are one of the main reasons why I do it. You showed me that my bow is not merely a tool for hunting but in fact an exstension of me the hunter. I now shoot for pure enjoyment. Also it’s made me enjoy my favorite pastime(hunting) so much more. More connected!!! It’s because I stumbled onto one of videos years ago. Thanks Jim
It does not matter how many followers you have as long as you manage to convey your ideal about traditional archery. I have been practicing archery for 10 years and I have tried to follow your philosophy about archery, about trainig hard, about learning from my mistakes, about enjoying each one of my shots. Your philosophy has made me grow in archery and other aspects of my life and I think you are leaving a legacy for us and future archers. Thank you Grizzly Jim!!
Hi Jim. I wish to say, I look forward to your videos not because of your popularity, but because of your timeless lessons. A Japanese Kyudo archer once told me: learning to miss is more important than learning to hit sometimes. Your lesson in this video captures this statement very well and explains it comprehensively. I learn a lot from you every time you put things up on the Tube. Thanks.
Well, about 2 years ago life threw me a curve ball and the last video I saw of yours I think was the 5 C's and I had to hang up my bow. Last weekend I went for a trial and assessment at a club that has a great 3D course in the rainforest in Far North Queensland, Australia and had my passion unearthed and poured back into me. today I typed Grizzly Jim into the search bar and found this video. Mate, you could of made this just for me, how timely for me, it feels great to be coming back and by the sounds of it, you as well.
Forget about the youtube algorithm! You've developed a good base of viewers who check on your channel regularly because we love what you do. You offer a very personalized/emotional look into the realm of archery that nobody else really does. I love that I can take what you are talking about and apply it to other things in my life! Thanks for the great advice!
Live archery, Love archery, Laugh when you screw up! It's a poor mechanic that blames their tools. We love your videos, Jim, we still follow you because of the quality and thought you put into them. Keep up the good work.
Reminds me a bit of one of my most beloved movies, Legend of Bagger Vance: "Put your eyes on Bobby Jones (Howard Hill, Fred Bear...) ... Look at his practice swing (shots), almost like he's searchin for something... Then he finds it... Watch how he settle his self right into th e middle of it, feel that focus... He got a lot of shots he could choose from... Duffs and tops and skulls, there's only ONE shot that's in perfect harmony with the field...(our target range) One shot that's his, authentic shot, and that shot is gonna choose him... There's a perfect shot out there tryin' to find each and every one of us... All we got to do is get ourselves out of its way, to let it choose us... Can't see that flag (target) as some dragon you got to slay... You got to look with soft eyes... See the place where the tides and the seasons and the turnin' of the Earth, all come together... where everything that is, becomes one... You got to seek that place with your soul Junuh... Seek it with your hands don't think about it... Feel it... Your hands is wiser than your head ever gonna be... Now I can't take you there Junuh... Just hopes I can help you find a way... Just you... that ball (arrow)... that flag (target)... and all you are..." One can easily adopt that to archery 😊. Thanks for your content and for sharing your experience with us!
Sometimes I struggle with it and it feels good to remind myself to just keep it simple and enjoy it. Your approach to archery is inspiring. Thank you for that. :-)
Just got back into archery after a couple years break due to work commitments and love watching your videos. I’m glad to see the videos pop up on my feed more and more.
Thank you, Grizzly-Jim. Your thoughts fit perfectly with your video "Instinctive Archery Explained (2020-05-07)", this as a tip for everyone who hasn't seen this one yet. It's good to listen to you chat and yes, mistakes on the 'way of archery' are sometimes expensive and when archery becomes an addiction, it costs lots and lots of money :-). But it's worth every penny!
Thank you Grizzly Jim you don't know how much your ramblings have helped me and I thoroughly understand where you are coming from, I am in a similar situation losing my love of archery for over thirty years mainly due to lockdowns and Archery Politics, but like you I am improving going to shoots and just shooting for myself and having fun Thank you and keep the rambling coming luv to hear your stories and good luck getting back into it
Still my favourite archery channel by far. Keep doing what you do! I will be ordering a string soon for my new longbow which could well be a big mistake (longbow, not string)
great video! really enjoyed it. as for making the mistakes, for me it turned into the thing i like about archery; becoming better than before. not becoming GOOD, but just better. for me it takes the pressure of and im really enjoying the process of learning and improving. keep on rambling dude!
I find it great to hear that you are enjoying yourself again. Not saying Baseball isn't fun.😉 That is indeed the first most importent thing in archery.
Howdy mate always happy when you release a video. Hope you are well and i truely wish you all the best. Its so warm here in norway now we are sweating away. Im shooting a 42 pound left handed great plains model b recurve that i love but its to warm now to shoot 🤣
A chess coach of mine used to say that winning is merely confirmation (to an extent) of what you've managed to learn. Losing IS learning, IF you react to it right.
I grew up hunting with my father and brothers. We only used rifles and shotguns. I took up archery for deer hunting when I was about 32. I used a compound bow of and on. Recently, I became interested in traditional archery and I just purchased three longbows. While watching your videos and others like the Push, I became hooked on Trade. It's actually a lot more expensive than I was aware of, so when my wife complains, I'm going to just blame it all on Grizzly Jim. I hope you don't mind. Ha ha! I ordered some of your coffee and when I return home from work in a couple weeks I will order some of your quiet strings. Cat wait for more videos. Thanks, Mike. 😊
I certainly enjoyed the "ramble"! I think your shop is a great location for the videos. Hope you enjoy your upcoming shoot. Do you still have your KG Osprey? I really like the looks of that bow & am considering getting one. I hope you continue to enjoy making these videos! They have definitely been helpful to me. You are the reason I took the plunge into traditional archery.
