I'm unwrapping consignment and thrift home decor items that are like new and I may have purchased something for myself too at the dollar tree. While in my new farmhouse kitchen, I will be sharing my like-new home decor finds, but I have more coming in a future home tour video, but today I'm also sharing why I don't follow interior design trends and how you too can make your house feel like your home with your own style of interior decorating by following your heart.

Love your advice on not following trends, but getting things that you “feel” for. I do that with antique paintings in my home that I find at consignment shops or antique stores. I had a close friend over the other day and as she commented on how she liked a new painting on my wall, I asked her, “Do you think I have too many dark and drab paintings? I feel like I’m always drawn to dark pictures, is that too depressing looking?” She said, “No way! That’s what makes your home feel homey. Your home has a moody feel to it that’s so warm and cozy.” I was so flattered that she thought that about my style. Anyway, I loved this video. Thanks for showing us what you got! Beautiful!

I keep trying to decide my style. I think you are right go with what you like. I like farmhouse, traditional and primitive and they could work together. It’s exhausting trying to find things I like from one style

" This is exactly what I have been doing since many, many, many years and I find my friends always saying : "it is so cozy, homy, etc." when they come for a visit or lunch, etc. I hope that sentence will resonate with a lot of your viewers, they will love how their home feels. Thank you so much! Yes, he is very thoughtful and considerate. I'm a lucky lady. He even had a rotary push mower delivered one day when I mentioned I might want one for our courtyard area. Ask me if it has been out of the garage this year. LOL

I fo the same thing. I have several different projects started and i going at one time. It’s just the way it is when you have lots of ideas of how you want things to be. I rather enjoy it. One day one thing, then you go back and forth from one project to another. Never boring. God Bless.

I love what you said about buying things that make you happy and that make your home “your home” I live by that rule, I buy pieces that make me happy. I live country and colonial and my home reflects that. It may not speak to everyone, it may be a mix of different things but it is what speaks to me and what makes me happy. Wow! Great find on that mirror! Mitchell Gold used to make all of Pottery Barn's upholstered furniture and it was top quality. They have gone downhill considerably since dissolving their partnership. That mirror like retailed for around $1000.

Love your home. We have an old Colonial farmouse style home. Its decorated with some Colonial pieces as well as traditional and a few new pieces. I love mixing things up a little bit here and there of things we love. It is what makes a home. Love quality old furniture and give it new life. 😃

Oh Linda.. I think your comment on the fans was wonderful! I started “ not-flashes” in my early 30’s ( surgically induced ) and was harassed by co-works my age. I simply stated...”someday you will know”... when the day came... I smiled and simply said “ oh yes...I remember those days way back when “.... GREAT TIP on the black washcloth ! I always feel bad at hotels when I leave my face on the cloth! I don’t use the make-up facial cloth they put out... sensitive skin... so only certain products on my face...😬 I think woman change their minds all the time... the world is use to it ! LOL!!! Looking forward to your next video!

I just dried my lemon verbena as well. Looking forward to a cup of tea with it in the mid winter! It almost has a licorice undertone. Lemon balm is also a great tea and it has relaxation properties so it is a good bed time tea.

I always enjoy seeing you come up on RU-vid. It makes me reminisce about my New England days and how happy I was there. Until you’ve lived there, people can’t imagine how truly beautiful it is in the sense of history everywhere you go.(i’m very blonde and use tan washcloths and hand towels for my make up removal.)

Great video Linda. I’m looking forward to seeing all your projects in future videos. The lemon verbena tea sounds amazing. I had that in my garden but lost it...I’ll try to plant some next year and try the tea...I just love anything with lemon. I love the fact that you said not to follow trends but to decorate the way you like your home. So many times I get intimidated by decor magazines and feel my home is all wrong but then I say this is me and what I like. See you in the next video🌻

Good idea about the butler pantry....keep it simple. When I had my house a million years ago....I was always changing stuff.....floors...wall paper.....good grief....what was I thinking....all over the place. Now I live in a small condo....when we moved in my husband said...ah...don't start buying a whole bunch of stuff....oh! the agony of no room and so many ideas. But it is fun watching you and your decorating...I can live vicariously. The black and white will last forever...oh...but is that what you want? Nice visit!

I bought a round mirror like that but it was pretty beat up. I scuffed it more with a sandpaper block and then gold leafed it and toned it down with brown wax shoe polish. It is in our guest room and I love it. P.S. the mirror was on the sale table at Restoration Hardware 😃

I LOVE that mirror!! & actually everything u choose! My signature colour is ruby red & Burgnady red (not wine red (too dark) & not pillar box red (too much) so my home is super cosy...Red went out of fashion in the 60 's & has never really come back into fashion all these years later which is a shame. Greetings from malta. P's. It's a disaster if I go out & forget my fan (hot flushes too & in summer it's a must!!) I usally use those big fans but came across Chinese style fans which are half size & are soo cute.

I too refuse to follow trends....I love Early American / Colonial, some Glam in the master bedroom, and most of my furniture is consignment / thrifted / inherited! Plus, I'm not one for an all white home, my interior is sage green and brown with white trim.

They are called bottom up top down shades. They can go either direction or not show much at all. I have them in most of our windows and love using them.
