This is fascinating. I think I'm gonna make these. Just a thought; things might go a little faster for you if you make yourself a shuttle to hold the long length of thread instead of pulling the whole length through each time. You could wrap the excess around a cardboard square and just unravel more as you need. Thanks for the video. I'm rating it high and adding it to my favorites!!
Absolutely fantastic job. I would much rather learn something like this in person, but seeing as that isn't currently possible, this will have to suffice. Heh. I've actually seen waraji also be made on a board with pegs and a similar pattern, but this seems somewhat superior. Fantastic instructions, can't wait for part two.
Great ! EXCELLENT ! More please ! I sm a Ret. 24 yrs USN , 15 yrs were as a SERE- POW Inst. I have tried to make " emergency. Survival sandals " from green yucca plant leaves " - just weaving like a mat but the did shrink after drying - had to add small pieces of deer raw hide for soles.
if nobody answered you he took his orignal loop of material he made. Then when it was wrapped around his feet as in the previous segment he held the knot where he was measuring the sole of the foot then took the slack and pulled it past the knot and gave it a slight twist.
If you can make a stone throwing sling with paracord then this is no different to weave and I used ditch cane leaves instead of rope and they make a nice soft shoe just had ta weave through 7 strands instead of 4. Thanks for the vid. I got a lot of new ideas from it. Viva youtube! lol
for all of you saying "what about 1:35 - 1:50, i don't know what you did there." here is a link that shows it more in-depth (how to start the tie off) ~though it's not in english, but shows it well enough for you to see.
1:39 what did you do? i cant seem to repeat the process very well due to not knowing exactly what you did. also additional veiws and a bit more information on what you are doing exactly with each step would help alot. for instance. how do you mesure your rope length according to your food. you didnt specify that if you have a size 9 soul you would need 9 feet of rope or something along those lines. all you said was you mesure according to your soul and then just went on. specifics would be nice
@shinomun Tried making one recently with jute twine of around 1.5 mm circumference. Took more than 3 hours to make. Clearly too thin. Have access to 3mm and 6mm alternatives. Can't tell which to use. Limited budget so can't experiment with both.
What do you mean by a woof is wound by the warp double??? What's the warp double and how do you make a woof?? Can you explain this entire process explicitly pleeeease and thank you :)
