Both the traditional-religious music of the Highlands of Chiapas, as well as the trade of luthiers are in danger of extinction. The new rhythms and musical styles propagated on networks and in the media have marginalized the beautiful sound of the wire-stringed instruments made by the artisans who still build them. The cadence of the tedeum that emerges from religious music is beautiful and full of a cadence that gives constant circles in its song to the indigenous universe that mixes deities with founding myths of the Maya of Chiapas. The memories of oblivion presents this video piece that shows the life of a lute player and the performers of traditional music.
