It’s sad that you better off drink driving than smoking a joint hours before driving. 6 month ban and 600 fine for drink 12 month ban for not been stoned but still in system 🤷♂️
I recon its a bit unfair that he had insurance and a liscence and still had to pay an impound fee. Seems to me as though he was being punished for doing nothing wrong.
don't exaggerate. i agree that this is a serious offence but i believe that the punishment fitted the crime. being 4 times the legal limit could be caused by drinking 4 pints in 3 hours.
I can see it from the Gardas point of view. They've no way of knowing the car's insured, if it's uk registered (do they?) and as the bloke had one stop previously; you'd have thought he'd have made sure to have his paperwork on him. Whenever i'm over visiting the in-laws, who live just North of the border. I'm always conscious of having the correct paperwork on me, before crossing the border. I suppose if you live there though, you'd be a bit more relaxed about it.
i would imagine its easier to catch/spot NI drivers in the republic who are breaking the law as the guards will always be more enquisitive/ aware of them. id imagine that this is also true in the North for ROI drivers
It was an illegal stop, checking whether people are wearing seat belts or not is not a legal reason for a stop but rather a fishing expedition. They could not have given out any fines or take the bus because they did not have grounds for the stop in the first place.
