I never made a signal ahead sign on my own. Well, not with a vinyl machine. I already realized what it would take to have the red, yellow, and green stand out. On the other hand, I like how Bob here assembles such a sign. Thanks for the video.
Just came across your YT channel and have always wondered how traffic signs are made and also to MUTCD specs. This was really fascinating to watch, Bob, and keep sharing videos when you're able!
Besides government agencies, many sign companies have their own way of making the signal ahead sign, also. As for myself, I have purchased sign faces, including the W3-3 symbol, to laminate onto the aluminum blanks. This has been my latest traffic sign technology, as of October 2016. Well, whatever it takes to keep the costs down.
I know my agency does not make sings like this, I will show them this method and see what they think. I hate it when green a red are dull and yellow is bright, thanks for the how to.
Love to watch your videos Bob! Can you recommend a software to get started making residential signs for mailboxes? I have a plotter now, but I just need a simply software to get started. Thank you
hey bob i have a question. In minute 7:00 you seem very carefree and non chalant about the placement of the black vinyl. I have a street sign project coming up where i'm really scared about placing the vinyl on the metal. I've seen you're videos but i'm kinda nervous cause it would be the first time i'm doing this kind of work and i dont have a second set of vinyl's. Got any tips? I've already learned that the borders should be applied individually thanks to your videos!!
We use .080 aluminum sign blanks for our traffic signs. We use .125 aluminum for street signs as they hold up better when mounted on the brackets, less flexing in the wind. We do use a roller. The roller will help get maximum adhesion to the sheeting. A squeeze does work on some applications such as window lettering and vehicle numbers I do for our fleet.
Cost is one. And if we did get a HP printer I would be doing much more than just my job. All the other County departments would be wanting their stuff done. Im just fine the way things are for just traffic signs only.
